Went on Bend, OR golf trip this past weekend. Took my brother and two friends to knock off 3 course from the Golf Digest Top 100 Courses you can play. Our itinerary was packed. We flew in SAT, August 20th, played Pronghorn, On 8/21, we played Sunriver - Meadows in morning and then Tetethrow in the afternoon. On Monday 8/22, we finished our trip by playing Sunriver - Crosswater. To play Crosswater, you must stay at Sunriver Resort, so we stayed here reluctant because of the price and non-ideal location. The resort is huge, but the customer service is lacking. They are completely unprepared to handle the destination golfer. Compared to Bandon Dunes and Pebble Beach, Sunriver completely failed. They had no bell hops to help us check in clubs and transport them to 1st course on the resort. We had to lug the bags everywhere ourselves. This is unacceptable when they charge almost $340/night for a Motel 6 rooms. The staff was pretty clueless when it came to simple golf logistics. This review is for Sunriver - Meadows. Meadows was the only non-ranked Top 100 Golf Digest course on our trip so we had low expectations. Checkin process was smooth after the bellhop incompetence. The practice facilities was very nice with beautiful mountain backdrops. The 1st couple of holes are annoying as local puddle skipper planes take off. This course has a lot going on because you have hikers, bikers, and walkers using nearby designated trails. Can be very distracting. The greens were perfect, running at 11. We were the "rabbit" 1st ones out at 7:30 am. We played in 4.15 hours. Layout was a great blend of different doglegs and long and short par 3's. The wet marsh and water is in play for a few holes. Rough was very penal and sandy traps were in great shape. Tee boxes were level and had little damage. Was pleasantly surprised by this course, just not a fan of all the distraction nearby.

I played the Meadows course in the afternoon on Tuesday, July 12. Course are a lot more plush up here than in So Cal. Plenty of water so they must irrigate to the hilt. Great conditions for this resor... Continue »

I played the Meadows course in the afternoon on Tuesday, July 12. Course are a lot more plush up here than in So Cal. Plenty of water so they must irrigate to the hilt. Great conditions for this resort course. Not too difficult, although the greens have grain, which I didn't figure out until the 9th hole. Not much room to get in trouble, although many of the holes are lined by trees and houses in the forest. The narrower of these were not as long, so just use your head and hit an iron or fairway wood off the tee and you can still reach with a mid iron. The altitude adds some distance, so I was long on many holes on the front nine. The greens are hard, and even short irons coming in high tend to roll out. With all of these factors to consider that I don't see much in So Cal--altitude, grain, hard greens--it's no wonder why I didn't score well, even though I was happy with the ball striking. POP was fine, even though there was no marshal and the course was crowded. All in all, another good day of golf in Oregon.

Played on memorial day weekend, 10:30AM tee time. The course just reopened from winter so my expectations weren't too high. The course is very plush. Big expansive fairways and large greens. Definitely a resort feel. The coverage in the fairways were pretty solid, I would rate the fairways a 7/10 and greens about a 6.5/10. The greens were still rolling quite slow although they were very smooth. I expect them to get rolling much quicker once the weather comes around. The morning we played there was a frost delay so maybe they didn't cut the greens? For early season I would say the course was in very nice condition but for 105$ definitely not even close to worth it. I would recommend Widgi Creek for a much cheaper deal and better conditions or Pronghorn for around the same price and significantly better conditions. I had a fun time out here and I probably would return if staying in the Sunriver area but I would visit the Woodlands course before returning to the Meadows. Apparently, Crosswater is by far the best course in Sunriver but its closed for members and resort guests only. I would really like to check that place out.

What a beautiful setting! With the exception of the bunkers the course is in very good condition. The bunkers are very wet and packed. I was told they had a very strong hail/rain storm recently and the bunkers have not drained yet.
The greens are some of the best I have played recently. Firm quick and almost no ball marks.
Staff and service was top notch. They meet you at the bag drop and by the time you park and walk back your bag is loaded on a cart and ready to go. The range is all grass and well marked with distances. Putting green is very close to the greens on the course.
Went in the bar after the round and they have some very good sandwiches and such to go along with some very tasty local brews.
I really enjoyed my round here and can't wait to play the premier course here at sun river tomorrow Crosswater
