Played super-twilight on Saturday 7/21/07. Great deal: $19.00 including cart. Course in pretty good condition. Got 16 holes in. Group in front of us held us up somewhat - but can't complain too much as we didn't start until after 5:00 pm.

I like this course, though my playing partner does not.

Early AM round weekday 6/27 before work w buddy. Nobody within 2 holes on either side of us. Played at great pace. The greens actually have improved (ball-marks, bumpy) since the last time I played a few months earlier. Some aerating of fairways beginning. Tee boxes need work. Sand inconsistent. The course is short, but requires you to back off shots due to doglegs making it a good challenge. The thing about DeBell is that it is true muni, but is probably the most interesting and fun playing muni at a very reasonable price. Side note...go there warm as that range is just not right.

Good: Greens were in very good condition, escpt for, ahem, UNFIXED BALL MARKS. Rolled nice and true, medium-fast. Fairways were nice and green and lush, except for a few spots were some different kinds of grass were starting to grow. Rough was penalizing, and traps played well. Staff is very friendly, Fee is reasonable.

Bad: Bring your driving range mat with because these are the worst tee-boxs in southern california. Does the staff not understand the concept of moving the tee boxes a few feet each day? Heck, with the amount of short irons, move them a little at 1:00 too. So many unlevel tee boxes, severe divot damage, EVEN THOUGH MIX IS READILY AVAILABLE.

Fun course though. Hit it straight, or else...

Greens in very good shape & rolling nicely. The nines have been reversed & the course plays much better this way. (tee boxes still need to be leveled)

I played the course for the first time--one and done for me. The greens were in pretty good shape but slow. Other wise the tee boxes were severely hacked up and uneven at times. The fairways were thin with several bare spots.

Even if the course was in pristine condition, I don't think I would go back. I felt the routing was cramped. You are forced to hit mid to long irons off of several par 4's (5 which are less than 300 yards), which is fine i guess, but then 3 of the 5 par 3's are over 200 yards. Enough said...

A word for DeBell Management: I have no problem with women golfers. I think it's great that everyone and anyone can get on a golf course on the weekend. But use some common sense please. 85% of women hit the ball shorter than men. Now, I'm all four walking four-somes of women at 9:00 on a Saturday, but please don't bunch them all up together. It causes such a back-up its unbelievable. Now the women in front of us were good. They hit it straight, were good putters, etc... but they just didn't hit it very far, and we waited on almost every shot.

The single that paired with us was the president of the mens club. He told us that the reason they were switching the nines was to speed up play. Said they tried it and it sped up play by 20-30 minutes a round. Reason being, 1 is a long par 4 straight up hill with small green that not many people can reach in 2, and than the 2nd is a short par 5 that is VERY reachable in 2. Causes a huge back up on 2nd, 3rd, and 4th tees. Aesthetically it works great. 18 (the former 9) is a great finishing hole, and will make it easier for folks to clear the green as the clubhouse is right there.

Played twi-light on 5/5/07. Got a great rate through click4teetimes. Course was in good shape. Greens were nice, but too many unfixed divots, tee-boxes could be better, but things are looking good as almost every hole has divot mix now. Fairways,traps, rough all good.

Now the bad. Started at 3:00. Would have finnished in no problem except for a couple of things. 1) Marshalls completely useless. The groups in front of us were hitting 2 balls a hole. I have no problem with hitting a provisional, or an occasional mulligan, but on the 10th hole, the guy hit a drive, walked to his cart, put his club away, got in...and than turned to the other guys and said "1 more!?!" They all told him to go hit another one. WTF!!! 2) The freaking cart died!! I literally had to push the cart up the 17th and 18th holes. 3) The freaking sprinklers came on, when it wasn't even close to dark. So there I am, pushing the cart through the sprinklers, my father steering, with guys hitting 2/3 balls a hole. Man, the staff really needs to get it together.

Just to let everyone know the back nine is now the front nine, 1 is the old 10, 10 is the old 1. When checking out the yardage books and tips you will have to reverse the holes.
