I'd not played Diamond Bar for a few years, so decided to take advantage of the senior card rate of $16.50. My concerns were how long it might take. We had a 7am tee time, so after paying walked out and looked at the long line of carts waiting to tee off. I thought that it would be a nightmare, like five hours or so. but to my delight we actually teed off 10 minutes prior to out time and finished in 3 hours 45 minutes. Very impressed and surprised!

The greens were much better than I expected. Rolled true, smooth and were reasonably quick. Best part of the course. Fairways, bunkers both good. A little less so for the rough and tee boxes.

Let me say than when 5+ years pass from the last time you play a course, it's incredible how much longer the course played. (Couldn't be because I'm in my 70's now ! ) Despite my age, I'm no smarter, because I played the "tips" at 6800 yards with damp fairways. Truth is, too many holes were a struggle to hit in regulation. Five years don't mean a lot when you're young, but once you get "old" those 5 years are night & day different. But I know me, and if I'm still alive and golfing in five more years, I'll make the same mistake.

Played the “all-kikuyu all-the-time” Diamond Bar GC with my monthly club on Saturday, 9/15/18, at 10am. The day was clear and hot with not too much wind until late in the round, so the 3-hr front nine, and total 5.5-hr round, were especially hot and wearying. We waited on every shot all day. The drill sergeant starter made sure we got out right on time so we could immediately join the waiting queue.

Conditioning was LA County casual. Greens were the “best” part of the course, mostly firm with good coverage, rolling at medium-fast speed. We saw some bumpiness throughout the round, and all greens had many old and new ballmarks. Fairways ran the gamut from soaking wet areas to lush and good to thin and hard to bare. Rough was the same way, with the added challenge of dry/clumpy/ball sits down. Throughout the course any lie in fairway or rough was a crapshoot regarding what you would get. Sand was generally thin and firm. Trees were mostly flat bit looked pretty ragged.

The course uses a Red-White-Blue pin rotation. Because of where they fall in the hole order, 3 of the 4 par-5s had red flags today– the course needs to use some imagination to break up that pattern and provide better variety. Saw a cart girl a couple of times - snack bar at #10 tee closed. Staff was friendly but a couple of “ambassador” carts seen around the clubhouse were never actually seen on the golf course.

Nothing we got for the round was unexpected.

Played here on Sat 8-11-18 at noon. It was pleasantly wide open for a weekend anticipating a 5-6-hr round? We were sent off to the tee box and played all 18 without waiting on one single hole. Except ... Continue »

Played here on Sat 8-11-18 at noon. It was pleasantly wide open for a weekend anticipating a 5-6-hr round? We were sent off to the tee box and played all 18 without waiting on one single hole. Except when we had to back track to look for my partner's P-Wedge. 4-Holes back this 4-some was kind enough to return the club back he kept in safe keeping. We finished under 4-hours and saw the cart girl a few times. I recommend playing this course as it's challenging and the greens were a little on the slow side. I also brought some of my cichlid fish food pellets for the small koi pond that's hidden on hole #13 I discovered the last time I played here. Please respect the koi fish pond when visiting.

Have seen a lot of improvements in Diamond bar in the last few months, but one easy improvement that is really needed is the attitude of the starter. Played last weekend with a morning t tee, we were about 5 minutes from our t time and saw the t box was practically empty, so started to walk towards the #1 T box, as we are a few yards away, the starter "Michael" immediately told us to get away and go back to the putting area, he said that there was a tournament and we cannot be there until he is done with the tournament, asked how much longer, was told he does not know, it was a big group. To get to the point, if there is a tournament, why do they have t time in the morning? Also, instead of being courteous to the golfers, the starter was really rude, after all, we had a t time and nobody told us that there was a tournament. In the first place, the golf course should not have t time available when they have a tournament(was told it was a shotgun) , and to make matters worst should train their staff on how to handle customers- especially if the golf management screwed up on their scheduling and customers are there to enjoy the day and not have their weekend golf ruined by such rude attitudes.

My regular group decided to play Diamond Bar on 6/20 and had a 9:00 am time. When we checked in, the starter sent us to the tee box early as the tee box was open. With a couple of minutes, there were 3 groups waiting behind on the tee waiting. We followed a 4 some who left us in the dust. Man, they played fast! The group behind us fell way back so we pretty much had the course on our own. All us walking, we finished in just under 4 hours. I’ll take it. The last time I was out here, I found the course so, so. I was pleasantly surprised to find the course in much better condition. Fairways were really nice for a change. Some were dry but still overall in nice condition. Especially #12 which was always a bad fairway. The tee boxes were nice as were the bunkers. Sand was a little crusty but ok. The greens were really impressive. Smooth, rolling faster than I have ever seen them and not many ball marks. We had a very enjoyable day despite the heat and the constant roar from the Pomona freeway traffic! It’s a muni so you get what you get. It's usually very crowded and not always in good condition but today was different. They have made a number of improvements to the driving so perhaps other improvements are on the way?

Played here in a tournament starting at 9:00 am. POP was interesting - we were on a 4 to 4 1/2 hour pace for most of the day, just about the best pace I have seen at a county course. And then not. The last four or five holes were done very slowly so we came in at around 5 hours.

The course was in good shape. They had put quite a bit of water on it because of the hot weather and it played pretty long for this course (although we played the whites so not that long). I don't recall being in any sand but it looked pretty good from seeing others hit out of it. The rough was hit and miss. There is some gnarly stuff at odd spots (like in the drainage area in front of the 10th tee where we spent several minutes looking for my gopher ball tee shot (only to find it in the middle of the fairway at the 150 marker after I had gone back and re-hit)) including a two foot square area on the edge of the 4th fairway where I thought I had caught a lucky break (Not) after shanking into the trees and having it bounce back toward our fairway. Other areas of the rough were moderate to not a factor. There are some drier areas in the fairways but overall it was a good hitting surface.

The greens were simply outstanding. Quite quick. Fast. The guy I was riding with had a great ball striking day and shot an 81 with six three putts. You could not be above the hole and hope to score well. The greens have some slopes in different directions too, not all back to front like you see on some courses, so it was difficult for those of us that have not played here in a while to know where below the hole was located.

The service was generally good. The ladies at the starter desk were extremely helpful and efficient (they had carts set aside with our club name on them for the tourney) and the cart (young) lady was very nice and we saw her several times. The snack stand they have behind the 10th tee was closed requiring a walk to the café because you cannot drive a cart up to it. They did not have any hot dogs ready (at noon!), the cook went and got them from the cooler, and I found out mine was cold in the middle as I was walking to the 10th tee. That is my only complaint, other than the shanks, from a nice day at the course. I'll be back.

Greens are big, fast, and nice.
Fairways are not watered enough so very hard, thin in places, and patches of brown dead spots. One benefit is that drives run out well.

Just a heads-up about their policy: I made a reservation for two tee times. We ended up with 7. They sent me a “no show” email while we were playing and charged my CC $10.00. When I asked them to reverse the charge, they said they’d need corporate approval and it will take 14 days. They said that this policy was in the email they sent me when I made the reservation. Turns out they had an incorrect email address for me. After some discussion, they gave me a $10.00 credit towards lunch. Just a bad experience. Be sure that you have a full group or call them with any changes if you make a reservation there.

Walked on as a single 2/23 and got right out at 9:00 Played with two other guys and we made it around in less than 4 1/2 hours which is a really good pace for this place.

All I can say about the conditions here is pray for rain SOON
The tee boxes were ok but the fairways were thin and that is being very generous. Lots of bare spots and very little grass anywhere. The rough was almost non existent. It was hard to tell where the fairwasy ended and the rough started. The rough was mostly bare dirt.
The two bunkers I was in had decent sand but per usual here lots of footprints. Some of the players here don't think they should rake them!
The best part and only green part of the course were the greens. Very good condition with very few ball marks and running about 10.
No cart here and the snack bar at 10 was closed so you had to go into the resturant if you needed anything.
My advice is to spend your money else where until the conditions get better.
