Played yesterday may 25th. Course was relatively empty for a holiday weekend. Played the round in about 4 hours. Course conditions are typical city course conditions. Bumpy greens, patchy fairways and rough and very uneven tee boxes with lots of divots.

It was a quiet day today. Meaning there were not many golfers early this morning. I wonder if the recent green fee raise of county courses has something to do with it. The course was in ok shape. The greens were very nice. I will play here again this month with another set of friends. The bunkers are a bit hard. It is best to use a wedge with little bounce out of the sand. Yelling FORE! out here will have to be very loud to overcome the constant noise from the freeway. The good thing is if you have gas you won't be embarrassed if playing with a stranger.

Teed off at 6:40 and finished in 3.5 hours. The second half of the greens are close to being healed from aeration. The pins were on the half that has already recovered from aeration so shorter putts were not affected. The greens rolled decent with medium speed and held shots. The fairways had good coverage. The rough is decent just not uniform in length with a few thin spots. The bunkers are fair and thin of sand but playable. The tee boxes are good with some mild unlevelness. The course is walkable. The terrain is mostly flat to mild inclines/declines. There are two mild climbs on holes 9 and 18. The layout is enjoyable enough for a muni. The staff is friendly.

Had a 7:30 tee time on Sunday morning and was worried about a long day on the course. To my surprise it was a pretty good day. The starter and the marshal on the first tee ran a tight ship. The first tee in the past has been a free for all and have not had good experiences in the past. The course is in good shape with the amount of play it has. Tees, fairways and rough had good coverage, the greens looked good with little divot damage (another surprise from past experience) and held shots. Greens were a bit on the slow side and were a little bumpy. POP was a little over four hours and never really waited on any shots.
Staff was very pleasant and overall a good day, well done Diamond Bar GC.

Played on Veterans Day and got there early (6:00 am) as a walk on. Waited for about 20 minutes and the starter said if I want to play soon, I would have to go out solo. I did and eventually caught up with a threesome. The place is just ok. The greens are very nice and roll good (would be much better if people would fix their ball marks. Incredible. I fixed at least 2-3 marks on each green in addition to my own). Fairways are ok. Sand traps (I mean dirt traps) are horrible.

I have always liked this place and thought it was a tough track largely because of its length. I still feel the same. My biggest complaint about DB is the freeway traffic noise (it sets right next to the 60 freeway). Brutal! Its so loud its difficult to carry on a conversation with someone on many of the holes. I know weekend mid morning and afternoons you can expect a 5-6 hour round. Its a muni so what do we expect? Play early if you are ever out here.

Back to DB today with my weekend club for a 10AM tournament. I'm really seriously thinking about giving up weekend rounds at public/muni courses - today was a 3-hr front, 5.5-hr round in 100 degree heat. I'm too old and my time is too valuable! "Rangers" - one acted as starter and the other sat in the shade on #9. No obvious attempts to move play. Course conditions as described last week. Greens inconsistent speed and softness between the areas punched 4 weeks ago and 2 weeks ago. Hate that kikuyu!! Overall, a long, hot, frustrating day.

Got out for a casual round two weeks after carpal tunnel surgery on my right wrist, late morning on Friday, 9/26/14.My Saturday club is playing here next month and I decided to take a look while testing out the wrist. It was a sunny, hot day with light breezes, and the course was very uncrowded – I could have teed off immediately on arriving at 10:15 AM, and went off when ready at just before 11:00. The two guys who rolled up behind me said they wanted to “survey the course” – not sure what that meant, but it meant that they didn’t want to play with me, so I headed on out as a single. Played at my own pace, frequently hitting 2 balls, and only caught the twosome somewhere ahead of me on reaching the 17th tee. Overall played in a leisurely 3.5 hours.

I hadn’t played here in 5 years or so, but there were no surprises. Conditioning is typical LA County indifferent. Greens are fairly small without significant tiering or undulation. Greens were ½ punched two weeks ago, and that half had healed pretty well and quickly. You could still see the evidence of punching, but in those areas the ball rolled well at medium speed, and those areas were fairly firm. The remaining ½ of each green was punched/sanded in the last couple days, and those areas were much softer, and rolled much slower. Fairways were anywhere from good to terrible, with lies between good and sitting on bare areas or in scattered clumpy grass. And this is all the kikuyu that I hate so much. I found that if you miss the green on the fringe or close by, you are best off using a putter if the grass is cut down – anything that spins the ball in the fringe or surrounds really kills the shot and makes the bounce/release unpredictable.

Rough varied from cut short/bare to scattered areas that were deep and lush. Almost every tee was not level. No GPS on the cart, no yardage book – distances were shown by colored stakes and plates in the fairway. Saw the cart girl a few times, snack shack with limited choices at the turn, and plenty of water was available. Range hitting off mats with about 20 stations available. Small putting green – the larger green had just been sanded. Friendly ranger distributing water and banter on the back side. OK for a casual round.

Hadn't played here in quite some time and was pleasantly surprised. The fairways were lush. Some Bermuda grass and Kikuyu. The ball sat up nicely on both. The greens are very soft. They are in great shape, but I can see how if people don't repair their ball marks, these greens could get ugly very fast. The course itself is wide open and very forgiving, thus the lower slope. The major drawback is the noise from the 6o freeway - which is constant, but, otherwise, a fun tract with something for everyone.
