Played Friday July 6th 11:50. Greens seem to be growing back pretty nicely after getting punched a week and a half ago. This course is definitely worth the $24 green fee through golfnow. As always the course is taken care of pretty well. Too bad for the horrible pace of play. we got stuck about 4 groups behind the tail-end of a tournament, and they were darn slow. From holes 11-13 we had to wait for at least 2 groups and for 3 groups on the par3 #13. Round took just over 5 hours, which in my book is rediculous.

Play this course. Definitely worth the money on this challenging and real fun course

Knollwood CC is a beautiful traditional style course. Fairways are tree lined and tend to be narrow to average in width. The course is somewhat undulating. It plays over 6600 yards from the tips. Greens were in good shape. Balls held well. Fairways were green and cut to a good level. Tee boxes were level and lush with typical wear and tear. The rough was lush and at a reasonable level, but still challenging. Sand was good in quality. I recommend this course.

Played this course for the first time on 3/26/07. Not a course to use the big dog on. A lot of OB left and right. If you have a trusty 5 wood,3 iron or 4 iron that is the play here on most of the tee boxes. Lots of scoring holes if played correctly. Def think as a player you should score better the 2nd or 3rd time around that you play this course. Greens were very slow and we were told that they will be punching them next week and that this course usually is known for fast greens. We were glad they were not fast because they were small greens(or at least smaller than I am used to). Lot of doglegs on this course so you need to shape your shots here. I have been told it is a 5hr plus round on weekends but we finished in 4 hr 10 minutes so I will chalk that one up to the Golfing gods above. Tough course to walk but we enjoyed walking it. Tree lined fairways and a good share of bunkering around some of the greens. Will be back to play on a weekday.

Played 3/17 with my father (barkinesq). The staff at the front desk was very helpful, they let us know that they were running 15-20 minutes behind, and pointed the way to the putting green, driving range, coffee shop. Sure enough, we got out at 10:30 with a 10:05 tee time.


Now the Good: The course was in absolutely fantastic condition. Phenomenal shape. Fairways were green and lush. Rough was green and existent. You really payed when you missed a fairway, and believe me, I missed a lot of fairways. The greens were in excellent shape, and the traps played very true. The design is a lot of fun, and Knollwood tests every facet of your game. Plus, this may be the best deal in SoCal...$40 for green fees and cart weekend morning.


Now the bad: Play was ridiculously slow. They allow walking fivesomes, which can be a major problem weekend mornings. Some of the players here have no grasp of the concept, and end up taking time reading 4 inch putts, while your standing on the fairway with 2 groups on the tee behind you. Now I'm all for concentrating and playing your best and by the rules, but pick it up when you see that you're holding up 3 groups. Marshalls were non existent on the front 9, all over the back 9.


An idea for the Knollwood staff: Have a martial stationed permanently on the 6th green. This first par 3 is one of the main causes of all the backups and because of the huge backup at #6, the carts waiting to tee off actually come into play and are quite distracting on the shot into #5 green. There should be a marshall on the green making it mandatory to wave up the next group if the 7th tee is occupied. I get that most courses will be slow weekend mornings, but by the 5th, 6th, or 7th holes, most course open up so that there is very little waiting until 16,17, and 18. Not so at Knollwood. The only marshall who was constantly around was a guy named Dennis, who was very helpful.


Besides the 5 hour round, which would have been MUCH longer had we not had our 3rd player leave at #12, and the group infront of us's 4th player left, so we joined at #13 into a 5some and finished quickly. If the groups had stayed the same, theres no doubt it would have been a 6+ hour round.


So besides that, the course is definitely worth the money, the course is beautiful, fun, challenging. Just be ready for a really long round on weekends. I'll definitely be back.

The course was in the best shape I have seen it in this year. Greens were in terrific condition. Fairways were green and pretty lush. Tee boxes were level and lush. For the price - a real bargain.

Only downer - I wish I played better. Oh well.

The layout is great and interesting. Very challenging course. A difficult course for high/mid handicap golfers. Course is fun to play, but usually crowded and a round takes over 5 hours.

Was able to get in 12 holes before it got dark, Saturday, 2/3. The course was in pretty good condition for this time of year. The fairways were a little brown, but the grass was all there. This course is a fun, challenging course. It doesn't really aggrevate you with really difficult holes, just a lot of elevation change, doglegs, that require you to make a variety of shots.

The starter and marshall are fantastic. We didn't have a tee time, and we got there about 1:00. He placed us immediately on the wating list, and said hed get us out in 20-30 minutes. Than he cart problems started. There was a problem with the batteries or something, so the starter called us in and said if we wanted to ride, we might not get on, seeing as those with tee-times get priority, but if we wanted to walk, we could tee-off right away. We opted to walk, and he let my father use a pull cart free of charge.

When we got to 10, the marshall came and told us, that they were closing the gates, but we could stay on and play as long as we wanted (or as long as we could see :). He told us a backway to get out when we were readdy. he also arranged to get us a cart so we wouldnt have to walk back in the dark, free of charge.

Anyway, besides the great customer service, this is a really fun track. getting a good tee time though...good luck. If you want a prime tee time, forget calling, show up in person 6:00 a.m. 7 days prior to when you want to play.

I played at Knollwood CC on New Yr's Day, and the course conditions were poor. The fairways were ok, but the greens were bumpy. I would have been upset during the round if the green fees costed more than the $40 , including cart. Overall, I'd choose another course to play until Knollwood's conditions get better.
