I consider Los Verdes my home course. I'm part of the South Bay Public Link Golf Club that's based out of Los Verdes and play there many times during the year.

I've recently played 7/1 and 7/4 and came away with mixed feelings. The greens were solid (maybe a little slower than I expect them to be), fairways are solid, layout is always a challenge even more so when the wind picks up.

What I've been frustrated about is the rough. Just about every hole, the rough is dead outside of the fairway which means the ball that misses the fairway will roll and roll and roll. Especially frustrating is hole 16, the past 3 times I've played I've layed up on the par 5 only to have the ball run through the fairway and into the non-existent rough and if you're familiar with the course, you know the fence line that runs along the left side of the hole. If there is no rough to catch your ball, it goes straight to the fence line earning you a penalty stroke. I know I should probably hit the fairway more but some of the shots aren't bad enough to incur the penalty you get from the non existent rough.

I also know the water situation prevents them from watering those areas properly but it's a sore spot for me.

Played early on Father's Day, June 17. Pace of play was typical, about 4.5 hours, starting about 6:30 am. Cool morning with it misting on one hole but otherwise perfect walking weather. It was decently clear out there with several cargo ships heading out adding to a great view. Customer service was great as usual. I heard that they just started actual construction work on the coffee shop so that is not going to be done anytime soon (it was originally scheduled to be done June 2018). The cheerful staff at the concessions table they have aren't complaining but it definitely is not as pleasant an experience for anyone in terms of food & beverage.

They have been putting a good amount of water on the course evidently and the fairways and rough have responded accordingly. There is still a ton of dirt around the edges (which I always seem to find on numbers 2 and 14) but the fairways were excellent and the rough was longer than usual, except around the greens where they shaved it down more than usual. We had to look several times to find balls in the rough and it has been quite a while since that could be said about this course. I thought the course looked great in that regard.

I thought the greens (which look great) were a little slower than the practice green and were slower than I expected. They still rolled at a good speed.

The sand was below par. I hit bottom at least once (greenside #7) and the clay flying from others' shots indicated they experienced the same. Word is that new sand is on the way. Its not there yet.

Overall, a good experience and a great day.

All the stars must have aligned. I just got done at Los Verdes. Tee’d off on the back 9 at 2:58pm. Played 27 holes, and walked off the 27th hole at 6:50pm. It was incredible. They had a big buyout until 2:30, and then straggler singles and twosomes came out. No tee times were offered online or by calling. That is huge for Los Verdes! 27 holes in less than 4 hours! I’m on cloud 9, so the course will also get a favorable review. Tee boxes were cut flat and decent coverage. A few beat up, but nothing negative to gripe about. Fairways were nice, but here you always trickle to the rough, or real thin areas. Not terrible conditions, but less than ideal. Bunkers were fine. Some thin, some perfect. The greens were EXCELLENT! They held nicely struck shots, medium-fast, and rolled true (if that means anything here, haha!), with very few ball marks. And the views on a clear day are just amazing! All in all, it was a great day out at Los Verdes, and I’m going to try and find out when their next ‘buyout’ is, and get out there in the afternoon.

Played today in a POP of 3.5 H. I was well aware of what to expect from sgnernz's posting. And the first thing I noticed, were the slow fairways due to recent punching (so the lies were spotty all round). I agree that it will be a few weeks for healing. Found the tee boxes to be fine (white). Found one trap and it was damp from the overnight dew/watering but the others appeared OK after it began to warm up (which took 2 hours). Greens were very good all round. With the construction ongoing of the restaurant/bathrooms, it seems very crowded and chaotic around the clubhouse? They even had a long table set up along the front window, for patrons to eat at. I watched one guy almost walk into the table as he came around the corner (dumb idea). Customer service was excellent at all levels. And I totally concur with the previous review, which stated: If they can get the Kikuyu green, get rid of the ridiculously excessive wire grass, and go back to watering some of the dried out areas the course would be even better.

Needed to play quick and close today so I called a day ahead to LV and they got me into a 7:15AM group (5-some) with a 4.5 hr PoP. I paid $35 walking rate that included a small bucket. Punching fairways continues so be aware (on #1 today) as it will be a few weeks before they fully heal. No disrespect to the previous poster but the fairways here are not a highlight, for sure. #9 & 18 are downright hideous ... barely any flat areas for the ball to stop so the slope directs your ball into unconditioned rough or hard pan under the trees. However, the Poa greens are real nice right now ... semi-firm but will hold a well struck iron ... but will release anything else. Hardly any ball marks (yeah!), mostly smooth deep green in color (#2 had some minor fungus). Visited a couple FW & GS bunkers which were in good condition and no foot prints. One playing partner found clay at the bottom of the front bunker on #17 so beware. Lot's of maintenance going on and some tree removal since my last visit here. Specifically, the trees behind #10 green are gone which really improves the view as you walk up the fairway. Also, on #14 the big Pine left side around 200 out was removed which widened that fairway considerably. Good to see the improvements. If they can get the Kikuyu green, get rid of the ridiculously excessive wire grass, and go back to watering some of the dried out areas the course would be even better.

Played here a couple days ago. The course has a beautiful location, lots of ocean views and nice cool weather. We played an afternoon round and the wind was definitely a challenge, (no surprise next to the ocean).

The greens were definitely the highlight for me. Smooth, firm, and fast. The ocean breaks were in my head all day, couldn't putt to save my life haha. Everything breaks to the ocean (i knew that going in, and still couldn't get it together). Shots held perfectly into the green. They weren't soft which I find can cause shots to back up a bit too much.

Fairways were nice, a bit tight but lies were very fair. The ball set up nice in the fairway. The rough was spotty at best. Lots of dirt lies, not much in the way of rough (except around the greens there was some longer grass). I guess if you miss the fairway you shouldn't really complain about your lie anyhow >< . There's a bit of trouble off the tee on many holes, lots of bushes and some OB to contend with.

Tee boxes were good, they were punched on many holes but still plenty of room to tee up nicely. No complaints here.

I wasn't in any bunkers but didn't hear any gripes from the others in our group.

Overall, I'd say this course is well worth the rack rates and I only wish I lived a bit closer so I could play more often. Check it out! Cheers

Today's POP 3 H. Course has rounded into very nice shape. No issues with the tee boxes (white) on any hole. Fairways are green, rolling and providing good lies (outside of fairways you will find some thin lies/hard pan). The rough in many areas has been cut (even the wire grass) but you will find some rough and it is thick and thin, depending upon your area. Bunkers were all fine and heard no complaints. Greens were cut, clean and chipping/putting great and with speed (they held shots just fine). Customer service excellent at all levels. Construction still under way, with temporary cafe next to banquet hall.

Played today in 3.5 H. Very cold and foggy morning, which did not lend to optimal golf. Tee boxes (white) were all fine/level. Bunkers were playable and no issues heard. Fairways were damp/hard and provided thin lies all round (though they did have roll). The greens had been punched last week (Tues with small punch) and saw no residual of holes/sand. They putted/rolled/chipped just fine. Rough is a mixture of grass and wire grass (sngernz's term for it) and it needs to be cut, as it is impossible to hit out of (the wire grass), while the higher grass is playable. Customer service excellent at all levels. Construction on restaurant and locker room continues. Large trailer toilets in the parking lot and some parking spots taken. Temporary restaurant set up in back of restaurant, near the banquet room.

Recently moved up to the area where Los Verdes is. I know the horror stories of 6 hour weekend rounds, but I decided to give it a shot on Easter Sunday, 4/1.

Recently moved up to the area where Los Verdes is. I know the horror stories of 6 hour weekend rounds, but I decided to give it a shot on Easter Sunday, 4/1.
Tee'd off at 8am as a 4some, trailing a 5some, and I have to say, POP was amazingly good. At 12:10pm, we were pulling into the cart staging area. Kinda shocking actually!

Besides the POP being good, the course is spotty at best.
Tee boxes (Blues) were shaggy, with some beat up pretty bad.
Fairways were very spotty, with lots of GUR, and not lush at all.
Rough was non-existent, and let to bad lies, un-even turf, weeds in the rough, etc. You name it, the rough had it (it wasn't too penalizing, but it also didn't help).
Bunkers were decent. Nice soft, smooth sand in most bunkers.
Greens were probably the best part (besides the ocean views). The were medium fast, & somewhat smooth. Still not excellent, but a little above average.

I'd recommend on a clear day, as ocean views are awesome here, but with that comes 5somes and 5-6 hour rounds. I'd recommend, but buyer beware, haha!
