played 3/26. Hit the first tee at 8:45 turned out to be a 4 1/2 round which is not bad for a Thursday. Most of the tee's are in good shape fairways for the most part are good some bald spots but not bad. I would give the traps a 7. Now the greens I must say are some of the best around for a public course. Short course but has some good holes and will test your skills. Great course to practice your game. Will play here again.

Played Sunday 01/18. This is not my favorite course. Course is OK but I always have very bad round on this course. This is a mountain course similar to Roosevelt Golf (nine hole) course in LA. There is some tranquility... see many deers. Overall condition on the course is little below the average. There is almost no paved cart paths but dirt roads. Fairways are whatever... You need to know the layout of each holes or your perfect drive will roll right or left under the trees. Some of the fairways are inclined to right or left. 1st tee, aim little left, fairway is inclined to the right.
Greens are bumpy and bit hard to putt. Always better below the hole. Down hill putts are very hard. Hard to read the mountain breaks. For us, it always break to the right on most of the holes. Many blind tee shots. You really need to know the layout. If you are the first time playing here, don't bet with other local players. They will have big advantage on you. Bunkers are OK. This is pretty short couse, less than 6200yds. Staffs are nice. Cart lady so so. Club house food, thumbs down. I had a bad front nine but did OK on back nine. Course is on a good location. If they upgraded this course, they would see increase in golfers. This could be very nice private course if they invest. Anyhow, I give only 4.25 GK rating on this course. I still might go back this weekend just to conquer this course. Hate the feeling that it conquered me.

First off - Disagree with previous review by roosterdaddy. Course is not "The Goose", but it was not as bad, IMHO, as he writes.
Tees have never been level, but had decent layer of grass on them, true that in some cases it is sparse. The fairways were not pristine green but also had a decent layer of grass, and in some cases still slightly brown, but rolled well. The greens were at times bumpy, and tough to putt. I kept fixing what I thought were ball marks. On closer inspection they turned out to be deer hoof marks, small triangular indentations, at times deep cuts. With a lot of deer moving around I think that's what has made them bumpy.
The course was wet, from a combination of dew, and watering which I think they do that to keep it from frosting over.
Went out as a 5some at 7:30AM, played in 4hrs, we caught the group ahead of us on the 5th hole, a 4some of 2 walkers and 2 riding. Could have finished in under 4 hrs. Young man at desk was cordial, and friendly, got us out quickly.

I've been playing Marshall for quite a few years and even taking into consideration that it is winter time, this course is in really rough shape. Lets start with the tees. It is tough to find a level area with grass and on some holes there is more dirt than grass. The greens at this course are very tough to putt and even harder now that the conditions are so bumpy. The fairways are terrible. There are to many bare areas with mud. Many areas could be easily fixed if the management would care a little. Don't get me wrong, I love this place because of its quiet, relaxing setting with the deer and mountains. I hope the County of LA can get this place back in shape because it has the potential to be a great layout. The reason that this course is a challenge is mainly because of the conditions in which you have to play from.

I enjoy playing this course once every year because it is a fun little course, with nice vistas, parklike settings, and some interesting holes, plus the greens can be a challenge if you put yourself on the "wrong side" of the pin. However, because the greens were so slow and bumpy, it took a lot of the pleasure out of the round. Slow greens on this course removes the element which makes these greens so much fun. Actually all they need to do is roll them and I think they would be fine.

Great Old School Golf Course. Bring a lot of balls if you are a hacker because you will be quick to lose a couple when hitting over cliffs. Good layout, most are straight forward holes, but have a few different ones with hitting over cliffs, doglegs, and blind shots. Good for the money, although tee boxes are looking a little worn out right now.

Played Marshall Canyon on 4 Oct. The tee boxes had numerous divits, the fairways were in fair condition, lots of brown areas, the sand traps were ok, the greens were in good condition. No breakfast until 0700, and is limited. Lunch is also limited. Overall the green fee is reasonable and the course is very secnic and challanging. Needs a little care and it will be in good shape.

Enjoy playing here even with the long drive. The course is definitely worth the green fee.
