Course was really nice from teebox to green. I had no issues. There wasn't too many people on the course ahead or behind us (we got on 5 minutes after a 5.6 earthquake). Poor guy in the proshop wanted to go home. If you've never played here, the greens will almost always break away from the mountain no matter what your eyes tell you.

This course kicked my butt today. No excuses outside of some poor course management and missed shots. A beautiful day, there were 4 groups just off the first tee when we arrived at 3:00, and only one group on the entire back nine (a women's tournament had just finished). The starter told us to start off an 10 to avoid the crowd, and we finished in about 3-3 1/2 hours.

Course is in solid shape, greens are playing a bit slow but in good condition. This course is not going to dazzle you with its difficulty, but it will find its ways to challenge you. Still probably the best value in the local area, and far preferrable to waiting to play six hour golf down the road at San Dimas Canyon.

Played on the morning of 5/26/08. Although the course policy is not to allow a group of 5 out before 9:00AM on weekends & Holidays, they let a group of 5 play in front of us, and our time was 8:13AM. They need to enforce their policy, or why bother with having one. deano & gbecker414 were also part of my group. Tee boxes were in average shape. Fairways were OK, but there are bare spots in many areas, making for a tough lie if your ball happened to land in one. Rough was OK, and bunkers average. Greens were in good shape. Soft and receptive to approach shots. A real challenge to putt well since they are very contoured and fast downhill.

Played today Tuesday 4/22. Tee'd off at noon and found no one on the course. Thought maybe because the greens were just punched or some other bad omen of things to come, but I was wrong. Marshall Canyon was in better condition than I remembered it being the last time I played there.

Tees, fairways, and sand were generally fine. Nothing bad to speak of. Rough was non-existent and fairways were firm and fast. The way I like them. Greens were unexpectedly good. When you are standing on them, they look bumpy and slow but other than two holes, I found them to roll quite true and were faster than they appear. As someone else pointed out, everything breaks away from the mountains and every green slopes back to front so keep that in mind.

I can pretty hard on a course but usually thats because of my own expectations. Maybe since I wasn't expecting much from Marshall Canyon, I was pleasantly surprised and would come back in heartbeat.

Been a regular player at Marshall over the past 3-4 years, and it is still one of my preferred spots to play a round at.

Been a regular player at Marshall over the past 3-4 years, and it is still one of my preferred spots to play a round at.

Course is in good shape, and has definitely been improved since the time I first started playing there. Decent fairways, generally slow, but well-kept greens. Be very aware of the fact that the entire course is on a slope (on holes 10 and 18, if you look back toward the clubhouse, you will notice that IT seems to be sloped). This is the cause of the tough-to-read greens, as almost all of them are going to naturally break away from the mountains. This isn't always the case, but a good general rule to keep in mind if you've never played Marshall before.

I am sad to note that over the last six months or so, there seems to have been a very large influx of new players to the course. While my father and I used to get through a round in 2 1/2-3 1/2 hours, it is now generally in the 4+ range.

The staff is friendly, most especially the starter who works on the weekdays. He seems to keep things smoother and more flowing than the kids who work on the weekends. A fun course, and a good alternative to some of the busier and tournament-laden nearby courses.

Sure would love to see what it would be like to putt on these greens if they were fast and true. Course was decent otherwise, with perhaps a few too many bare spots in the fairways.
