At the time of play 3/1, only one hole was impacted by the renovation. The tee box on hole 10 was moved up, resulting in a 300-ish yard par 5. Conditions were typical muni but the greens were something else. Firm, receptive to spin, and rolled mostly smooth with medium-fast to fast speeds. But the severe slopes led to about 6 hole locations that day being near unplayable. If the greens were a little slower and grown out (as we've heard it gets in spring/summer) the course would be much more enjoyable. Despite playing well, hard to think I'd come back again.

Morning tee time at MCGC check in and first tee well organized. Lots of construction going on throughout the course. #3 is a par 3 but no signage alerting about the change. Construction crews are on sides of the fairway with no protective equipment on. #14 tee box had construction trucks parked in front of the tee box our group teed off past the trucks to avoid any damage. Fairways and tee boxes were soaked and many tee boxes were being reseeded so markers were way up. Traps had little sand and were very wet. Weather was great and the deer and geese were very active throughout the course.

Played this AM in the first group out. POP was a great 3 H. Happy to report that the course is in great shape at the moment, compared to the previous review from June. Tee boxes all playable. Fairways mowed and providing good lies and some good rollout. Some of them were still damp so good lies but limited roll. Bunkers do need work no question about it. Rough is deep and many numerous OB areas to contend with. Greens were good (although my tee shot on # 2 plugged after a smooth one on # 1). But never had another issue after # 2. They chipped/putted very good all round and had good speed (not spongy like past times playing here) and very fast on downhill putts. Condition wise the course is in very nice shape at the moment. Customer service excellent in the shop. Sr rate w cart/LA County card was $36.25 ($18.25 of that is cart cost). Beautiful day with plenty of deer walking and laying around. And even saw two little bobcats which I had never seen here before. Aeration slated for next Mon/Tues.

Played here again and don't know what happened to the place. There are many fairway areas that are dry, brown, dead or dying, the 9th hole especially. Some tee boxes just looked like they threw the tee markers in an un-mowed area near the tee boxes, with some having 5-6" tall weed plants growing in it. But the worst of all are many of the bunkers. They have grass/weeds growing in them and the seem filled with mostly pebbly-rock, not even sand. We wouldn't even hit out of some of them because we didn't want to damage our clubs. The greens, as always, are a frustrating challenge. I spent extra time on the practice green only to find the greens on the course to be much slower.
I overheard that they are starting to address bunkers and irrigation and I hope it is soon as the conditions are deteriorating fast and it's not even hot yet.
All that said, it's still a fun track and the staff is great.

With Coto calling frost almost every day now, nice to play with no frost delays. Always enjoy playing this fun course. Enjoy the views, the wildlife and the general payout of the course. When the greens are quick, this course is much more fun to play. While there are still some issues with the fairways, being a bit thin, but overall, still playable. Several tee boxes could use some attention, but it's winter so it's no big deal. Besides, for the senior rate they charge, still one of the best bargains around. Provided you play early, pace of play is rarely an issue. Staff is always friendly and accommodating.

Fun layout here, lots of local knowledge helps, as many times you may not know which way to hit and the putting defies the senses, although typically away from the mountain, even if it looks like it wont.
The course shape has much left to be desired, especially the hard bunkers. The fairway is a bit thin, but not horrible, typical muni style. The greens are fast and it is easy to put off of it on a downhill putt, always best to be below the hole. It is a good walk, as pace of play is pretty muni standard, a bit over 4 hours.

Always look forward to playing Marshall Cyn. I never tired of seeing the deer in the fairways, just an added perk to playing here. I have to agree with the prior review that the greens are just way too soft (and slow) One of the best features of this course is the challenge of the greens. When they are firm and faster; it makes this course play entirely different. Fairways were for the most part acceptable, with decent coverage. Several tee boxes were pretty chewed up.

However, for the price using the senior discount, it's such a great deal. Add the scenery and wildlife and it makes for a fun time

Played this course for the first time ever on Thursday. Despite my all-but-non-existent short game that day, this place has instantly become one of my favorite courses ever. An often challenging but fair layout, beautiful scenery, great staff, good pace of play, serious greens. Local knowledge is definitely worth a stroke or 2 per side as this is not the usual grip it and rip it public course. The greens are quite sloped and are a good ways back from being punched 10 days ago or so, but I never figured them out this first time around. The greens were soft, and I went from full-on plugging a ball on my tee shot into hole 2, to leaving putts 6 feet short, to having it run way past the hole. It may have been my highest 3-putt total on any round in recent memory, but that's mostly familiarity. I'll get it next time, and the deer didn't seem to laugh at me too much as they looked on. All in all, it was a great day at a great course. If it wasn't 130+ mile round trip from me, I'd play here at least once a month.

Played MC this morning and all greens have been aerated and a heavy layer of sand on all greens. Temp greens on the back nine.
