Played today in nice POP of 3 H. Course was very quite, as large tournament later in AM. The fairways are green and providing good lies, but very little roll out today, as they were wet from overnight watering/dew. Still no additional sand in bunkers, but they have been worked on and the one I was in, was playable (rest of them appeared OK). Tee boxes were all clean and playable. They aerated almost a month ago and the greens look great. Not super fast, but acceptable and they chipped/putted just fine. Customer service excellent at all levels. Twilight is now starting at 10:30 for those interested.

Played a twilight Friday round at Montebello this week for $32 with a cart with three friends for our 30-year high school reunion weekend. POP was actually pretty good as we found a sweet spot between groups and didn't get held up at all until the 12th hole.

Overall conditions at Montebello are quite playable but far from lush. The greens are running at med-fast speed and are in pretty good shape all things considered. Nothing too tricky about these greens but you do have to dial in the varying speeds based on some bumps here or there. Held shots well though.

Fairways were mostly okay in majority of areas but definitely some thin lies to contend with and lots of dirt/GUR areas that you'll want to avoid. Rough is of varied height but nothing too difficult to contend with at all. Tee boxes were in good shape for the most part, but the bunkers remain very thin and grainy like the first and only other time I visited Montebello two years prior. That's fine in the fairways but not so much near the greens.

It's very serviceable golf right now with some pretty cool holes that will challenge your game, some really long par 4s that will require more than one good shot per hole and a few elevations and water features that keep things interesting throughout the round. I'd come back again in a pinch.

Played today in a POP of 3 H. Course is in decent shape, given all the hot weather. Tee boxes are fine/playable. Fairways have good, decent, patchy coverage. Not all lies are favorable. Decent roll out in the fairways. Still no more sand in bunkers, but they have been worked on and some play better than others. Greens are slow, but in fine shape and w/o divot damage. Some rough on outside of fairways and around greens, that is difficult. Customer service is excellent at all levels. As I have said before, I will play here, before I will play some of the other courses in the area.

Played today in a 3 H POP. Tee boxes no issues. Fairways no issues. Bunkers have been worked on, but still no new sand (blame the City not the workers - City won't spend the $$). Greens were in good shape (void of divots +) and chipped/putted just fine. Customer service excellent at all levels. IMO, this course (except for the bunkers) is much better than many in the area (who will remain nameless to protect the innocent) and I will continue to play here, unless of course, conditions go down, instead of up, as they have been doing. If it is good enough for Smokey Robinson (saw him 2 weeks ago), Oscar De La Hoya (also 2 weeks ago) and Troy Mullins (long drive champion) 3 weeks ago, it is good enough for me.

Played today in a POP 3 H. Customer service is excellent as usual (thanks Eddie). Overall conditions for me personally were acceptable. As I have said in the past (as well as others) more sand in the green side bunkers would be wonderful (however do not blame the course/superintendents, the City of Montebello is to stingy to put up the money). The staff is just as frustrated as the customers. Lots of work on the fairways and greens have taken place, in the last few weeks. The course was renovated some years ago and most of the kikuyu grass was "mixed" or removed, thus providing the type of fairways today (they should have left the place alone). I had no issues with the fairways. I had no issues with the tee boxes. I had no issues with the greens. For what I am charged to play here, I am very satisfied. That's not to say everyone will be? But I know for certain, there are a lot worse places to play (and I won't name them) within the LA area.

Greens were spongy, bouncy and slow. Fairways and rough was a mess. Patchy and spotty all day long. I could use 10 gallons of paint to mark the grounds under repair. Customer service was average at best. I love this course, but sadly i will not come back until there is proof that the bunkers have sand in them. What a shame.

Played today in a nice POP of 3 H. Course is holding its own, during this hot spell. Fairways have good coverage (very few bare spots) and will give acceptable lies and good roll. Tee boxes are all clean, with no issues. Virtually no rough at all on the course presently and what is there, is of no issue. Bunkers still need more sand (please). Greens are very good (nice and green), receptive to shots, chip and putt well (and clean of damage). Customer service was excellent at all levels. IMO the course is better than some of the choices in the area (Whittier, Brookside, LA Royal Vista, Diamond Bar, Alhambra, Los Amigos).

Played today in a 3 H POP. Greens are good. Bunkers are still bad. Fairways drying out in some areas, but still (at present decent lies) and good roll. Tee boxes need mowing. No rough to speak of. They have been having large tournaments every Friday during the whole month of May and more to come in June. I personally think, this is taking a huge toll on the golf conditions (too many and too many bad golfers). Customer service excellent all levels. If conditions continue to degrade, I will not be playing here much more during the summer.

I had not played Montebello for some time so was excited about returning. While I did not expect perfect conditions, I have to admit I was greatly disappointed in the overall condition of the course. It wasn't just that the greens were bumpy, they were as slow as any I've played in a long time. Fairways were spotty with only a 50/50 chance of getting a decent lie, rough and tee boxes were not great, but were OK. However the greenside bunkers were horrible. When I say there was no sand in them, I mean zero, nothing, nada. There was no chance of getting that nice "woosh". in fact anything other than "picking" the ball out wasn't going to work.

We were the third group out and played in about 3 hours 15 minutes. Not bad! Customer service was excellent, but $32 to walk for this course is too much $$. It will be a while before I return.
