Have not played here since it opened in May. Decided I wanted to only play 9 today and walk so here is where I went. Got right out and have to say, though $32 to walk 9 seems high, the course condtions were superb. Pace of play under 2 hours and the course very quite. Tee boxes were excellent. Fairways have great coverage, lies and terrific roll out. They also are much wider than they were on the old course. No rough to speak of and 1 water hazard on # 8. So not much trouble. Traps are all great. Greens are wonderful and chip/putt great as well and IMO speed of about 10. Great customer service which is now located out of their brand new clubhouse. Looking for a quick 9 this just might be what you are looking for.

Played this morning on the 9 hole and then brought my son back in the afternoon to play the 6 hole Par 3 but we played all 9 as the main course was empty. I like the new layout but not the cost. $36 to walk and $42 to ride is to high IMO. I could buy the Sr card and get 20% off but I don't play there that much to pay that much for the card at $50. The Par 3 was reasonable at $14 for me and $8 for him. The 9 hole is in good shape from tee to green. And the bunkers that were never there on the old course are here and they are great. As most know by now 8 holes from the original course were used to make up the course with the 9th hole being a Par 3 which I think IMO they made to short and easy. Customer service excellent but no services and no bathrooms out on the 9 yet. But for a quick round after work or early AM perhaps one might feel the fee is OK. As for the Par 3 no hole is over 90 yards and 2 of them are over water (#3 and #9) using the water hole from old #10 and water hole from old # 15. But its an enjoyable course for juniors and beginners IMO and its all walking. There are some nice elevation changes and the greens are very nice and large. They only allow 6 holes during the day but have 9 at night which are lighted. Hole # 8 is a downhill hole using the 4th green from the 9 hole and thats the reason they can't allow play during the day. But its a golf course and I am glad they resurrected part of the old Montebello course instead of turning into homes or retail centers. And if you are hungry and want to spend more $$$ Top Golf is a short walk across the street from the 9 hole course.

Played today @8am, I was happy to hear that it had recently re-opened so was wanting to get out before the crowds started booking. Nice POP with no just had to wait on tee for 5 mins for the threesome to clear but after that was smooth sailing. As others have said, price is a little steep for a 9 hole but I’d play again just not rush to go back. They kept 8 original holes from the course and I had to figure out which hole was which for yardage since no golf app has the new layout Based on an old layout where the front 9 (first tee) was along the hotel. From there I was able to track it. So for those that are wanting to play and still waiting for apps to be updated. Here’s the layout and you can use the yardage from “The Grint” app. New Old #1 #17 #2 #18 #3 #1 #4 #15 #5 #14 #6 #2 #7 #13 #8 #12 #9(new hole not existent in old course)cut trees down and uses 11th hole green. It’s a par 3 so go based on yardage sign. Overall not bad but like I said if I wanted to play a quick round on a good layout I’d come back but not rushing.

Played today May 3 for the courses' grand reopening. Kinda expensive to play, but the conditions are EXCELLENT right now. The tee boxes are nice and flat with nice grass, fairways and 2nd cut are perfect, bunkers have nice soft sand and the greens rolled slow, but true. PAR 35, Blues 3100, Whites 2900 and Reds 2600 yards. Our 4some teed off at 2:30 and finished at 4:15.

Opened today. 9-hole course and 6-hole par 3. The par 3 will be lighted at night. The 9 holes are 8 original holes from below the hotel and a new finishing par 3 9-hole. Blue 3100 white 2900 red 2600. The par 3 is 460 yards and they made the old #10 an island green on the par 3. The 9 holes are in nice shape from tee box to green. You can check the website for prices which IMO are too high as they don't include a cart fee. For an early AM 9 before work walking or a twilight 9 after work walking seems the best value. You can buy a Sr card for $50 which gives 20% off which seems like a lot to me. Building new clubhouse across the street from Top Golf. Temporary building there at present. No driving range or putting green and old clubhouse is not in use. It's definitely a nice 9-hole course but IMO overpriced. If you want to play another 9 to make 18 you have to pay a reduced rate for that. To crowded and busy to take pictures but check the website for the gallery of pictures. Two former Alhambra employees Jonathan is the GM Luke is the assistant. Good customer service. BTW they charge a 3/% for CC charges. And last but not least real sand in the bunkers finally.

I was inspired to sneak in a round after watching the US Open this past weekend and found a morning time here. Since I haven't played here in over a year I thought it'd be a good time to go back. I wasn't expecting too much after reading the review from ROARKSWON1 and I'd say conditions haven't change much other than they may be a little worse. Like in the previous review, the greens are still good but I found MANY bare/tight lies in the middle of the fairways. Bunkers are void of any sand and play like natural waste bunkers...which I find the ones in the fairway easier to reach greens from. Many tee boxes were not level or mowed, like hitting out of the first cut or light rough.
I was paired with a couple local guys who said that conditions have severely dropped off since talk from the city of closing the course or turning it into a 9 hole and building a Top Golf on the property. So any folks who don't often play here may just want to check it out for possibly the last time.

Worked in a twilight round yesterday. Course is in good shape, all except the bunkers, which still suck. No issues with tee boxes. Fairways had good coverage (except # 17 has many bare spots) and great roll out. Rough was half inch and playable. Greens in nice shape for chipping, putting and holding shots. Customer service excellent at check in. Course is still busy these days so book accoringly.

Got a fairly last minute threesome at Montebello this past Saturday and we all walked, playing from the blue tees and paired with another single. The nines are still switched and it really does take a lot away from the course. I truly hope they fix the routing here sooner rather than later as it does nothing for the round's flow in its current state.

First off, for a busy Saturday there were absolutely no services on the course which is disappointing. Not a single cart service came around and with the nines reversed, it's entirely inconvenient to snack up at the turn since the now 9th green is the opposite direction to the clubhouse from the 10th tee box. With cart service this would not be an issue, but it definitely is right now. And of course when we got to that now 10th tee box, another group had somehow either wrongly or didn't care jumped ahead of the group in front of us so all of a sudden a nice steady POP was completely obliterated.

In terms of course conditions, quite simply 'poor.' The greens are okay I guess. I don't recall any major issues with them as they were running medium-fast, held shots well and weren't too beat up in any way. The rest of the course was a bit of a shambles though with far too many fairways just dirt, a few others with good coverage but always thin or barren areas to be found. Simply not good. The bunkers as per usual at Montebello are tragically bad. Thin and hard as can be. Just not a lot of fun to be had in there and there are plenty to go around. Tee boxes were also mostly beat up and dirt, but a few were okay. All were level, so at least we can give some credit for that.

This course has always suited my eye in terms of the layout but reversed nines is simply not as fun and feels counterintuitive to how the course was designed. But when you add that in with poor conditions and not a lot of value for your greens fee, the feeling when departing is more 'good riddance' than 'can't wait to come back.' I sincerely hope it's a temporary state of things as I will always want to play this track once or twice per year, but I'll be waiting for more favorable reviews before considering it again.
