Played this morning, in a POP of 3 H. First thing you notice, is that all tee boxes have been aerated/scraped and are the color of brown (but it did not effect the teeing process). Fairways were very wet and provided no roll but decent lies. Bunkers were all clean and playable. Greens have come back nicely from aeration on Sept 4/5 but they are putting a lot of water on them and they are slow. Customer service excellent at all levels. No doubt conditions will improve, with the cool weather we are experiencing?

Played today in 3 H. No one there, as aeration began. We got lucky and played 50% aerated and 50% not. They did a very good job (IMO) in punching and cleaning and tried to make the course playable. Fairways were clean, soft, not much roll, but good lies. Bunkers all appeared wet and in need of raking, after the long weekend. Tee boxes were all fine. Excellent customer service at all levels. 10 days to 2 weeks, should bring the greens back to good shape (IMO).

We played today in 3 H. Decided to play, as greens are being punched next Tues and we know they will take some time to heal. Usual mower and grass clippings going on in front of us (I asked why they do not have a mower with a grass catcher? To expensive - thx). Not much change from last week, except the greens were much slower (no wonder they need to punch). No tee box issues. Most of the bunkers were wet, so no soft sand. Fairways were soft with virtually no roll. Customer service excellent at all levels. Perhaps by mid/late Sept the course will be back in better playing conditions? Not ideal at present, IMO.

Played AM today in 3 H. Tale of two courses today. Going off early, you expect to be behind maintenance (which is fine), just wish they would buy a mower that picks up the grass clippings? When we did find our golf balls (and cleared the clippings) we found good fairways with good lies (front only). And the greens today on the front were firm, clean and fast (thanks). Bunkers had been cleaned (from what I saw) and heard no complaints (both front and back 9's). Back nine was a different story? Fairways had not been mowed (so they were soft) but provided good lies. The greens had not been mowed and were soft and slow. Customer service was excellent at all levels.

I don't ever usually feel like I didn't get a great deal at Rio Hondo, but today's $64 to ride while waiting sometimes three groups deep at some holes and playing on some spongy greens that had a few too many ball marks and cleat evidence to boot, tested that notion.

In fairness the greens were more than playable if you were lucky enough to not have some of the patchwork bumps directly in your line. And that was more often than not so don't let this review deter you from going, just maybe not at full rack rate if you can get it.

Fairways were in pretty good shape with some areas of lush grass, and some not so much. Thin spots for sure here and there, but mostly all good. Spots of rough were very thick and tough to play long balls out of throughout the day. Bunkers - wow, amazing how many unraked bunkers there are here. Why? Just rake them. Not the greatest sand but not the worst. And tee boxes varied from just fine to get help quick.

It was hot out there and we did see the cart girl a few times so that was good. What was not good of course were the stops in play due to pileups at some key points on the course. It was hard to get a rhythm and that makes a tough, narrow course like Rio Hondo especially difficult to stay accurate at. Unfortunately I think the 'wow' factor I had when I first started playing at Rio Hondo a few years ago has been replaced by a more sublime appreciation for the routing and an acknowledgement that it's a good, not great layout that at times forces bottlenecks that could/should be avoided.

But overall I would never balk at playing here if someone shot the idea across my bow at any point when I had an extra five to six hours to kill. It's still a good, fun course that I've seen in much better condition than today, but we've also all seen a lot worse.

Played today in POP of 3 H. We did not find the course in as good a shape as 2 weeks ago. Lots of maintenance and too much grass clippings in the fairways (maybe they do not have enough staff). Course had been heavily watered and there was little to no roll in the fairways. Greens were wet and had not been cut, but were much better by the time we reached the back 9. Tee boxes were fine. Bunkers were fine. What little rough there is, was wet and difficult to play out of. Customer service excellent at all levels.

Played today in a POP of 3 H. Course is in very nice shape right now. Tee boxes were being mowed and cleaned, as were the fairways, during our round. So you would quite often, encounter grass clippings, but maintenance was working to clean them. No issues with the tees, but fairways were clean/soft, so little roll, but great lies. Bunkers were all clean and I heard no complaints. Greens were being mowed and watered, which gave us very clean and smooth greens, but they were slow due to the water. Customer service was excellent at all levels. Very enjoyable round on a very well prepared course.

Was invited out to play with cthuyen’s group on 7/24. A pretty warm day had a 10:00 tee time but got out a few minutes early as it wasn’t very crowded. Only played RH once and was really looking forward to it. Wasn’t disappointed.

The course is very nice condition. The fairways had excellent coverage and were cut down so we got some roll out. Bunkers were great also with good, crisp sand. The rough was lush in most places. Some dry areas but overall, in good condition.

The greens were rolling very well. Were soft, held good shots and about medium speed.

Thoroughly enjoyed the day despite the heat. $53 to ride seemed a bit high for a muni on a weekday but it is what it is. There are a good mix of long and short par 4’s. A couple of nice dog legs are mixed in so you need to hit to a good spot to approach the green. Par 3’s are challenging as well. Definitely recommend.

Back out to Rio Hondo for an early morning round. Not as busy as I anticipated, given the warm weather, thinking everyone would be trying to "beat the heat" As usual good customer service and no issues getting out on time.

As prior review indicates, course is in nice shape, with the greens rolling well, also thought the sand in the greenside bunkers was good - well maintained. Fairways had plenty of grass and I felt they have held up well considering the recent heat waves.

Every time I play Rio Hondo, I appreciate how much better this course is compared to it's original design. I find the front nine to be much more of a challenge than the back nine, which provides a number of good birdie opportunities.
