Played 10/26, course was in okay shape. Greens had sections that rolled well then other parts with bare spots. Fairways were thin but not bad other than that. Looks like they continue to work on the bunkers here, unfortunately the sand is very inconsistent from one trap to the next.

I have not played Rio Hondo since they've made improvements, and I was pleasantly surprised. From the ho-hum atmosphere of the course, to one of scenic holes, and the wonderful restaurant, I definitely will play the course again. The one drawback is the price of $39 to walk on a weekday.

Played this course for the first time in 10 years in early August and was very pleasantly surprised by the condition of the course and value given the deal we got from Golfnow. This time (Fri, Aug 30)? What a bummer! Teed off at 11a (about 5 min behind) and reached the first of 18 punched, slow, bumpy greens. 5.5 hours later we were finally done. Maybe it would have been less frustrating if we'd have seen just one ranger. But that wasn't the case.

Also note- the sign on 16 telling you the water is 248 yards from that spot- it's only off by about 35 yds. I found out the hard way.

Good course that had a very bad day.

Played here as a 4-some on Sunday 8/4. Tee time was 3:08pm for $36 incl cart. Not too bad. Course is it pretty good shape. Fairways are nice, rough is not too thick. Was only in 1 bunker on the back 9 and sand was soft. I'd say, most of the greens were in fair condition. It seemed to be mostly the fault of other golfers not fixing their divots. I fixed about 3-4 divots on almost every green.

Pace of play was not bad, finished in about 4.5 hours. Definitely would play here again. Just hope people fix their own divots!

Played a twilight round at Rio Hondo on 7/18/13 which was a steal for $22. I had wanted to play here for a long time and now I'm upset I didn't come sooner. Not sure if the course is always in this good condition, but I was truly impressed. Felt like a nice country club and not a muni track. Green, well-kept, beautiful scenery and very playable.

I would most certainly make it a point to come back to this course very soon. Sure, on the back 9 there are a few semi-annoying power towers to listen to, but that's really the only funky thing going on here. Lots of challenging, narrow fairways and some great water to work around.

I didn't have my best day of golf from a personal standpoint, but that's all on me as the course was top notch.

Just played this course last Sunday (4/7). Pretty poor experience over all. The course itself was nicely laid out and fairly well kept with good conditions throughout even with the recently punched greens. However, the pace of play was horrendous. Granted, it was a Sunday afternoon but I have played many sunday afternoon rounds in under 5.75 hrs, just not here. When we arrived at most of the tee boxes, the wait was two to three groups deep. This lasted the entire front nine. The back nine seemed to pick up a bit of speed but we noticed many of the groups in front of us had given up and gone home. This was just a subtle reminder of why I don't play metro LA and OC courses too often.

Where do I start? Like the previous reviewer says, the rating of this course as of now should be lower than what it is. Course is in very bad condition since the last time I've played this course. Almost all of the tee boxes are thin and not leveled. Fairways and the rough were also thin, dried out, with lots of bare spots. The only good thing I can say about the course are the greens and bunkers. Greens rolled true and held their line. I was in the bunker twice and they were nice and fluffy. Pace of play was horrible since the foursome in front of my group was about a hole and half behind. Played front nine in 3 hours. After a couple of complaints to the marshall, they sped up just a tad bit but not by much. Finished the round in a little over five and a half hours. I hope this course is getting ready for some major maintenance. I definitely won't be back again until it is back to its usual standards. This course is normally in great shape.
