As part of our kick-off match play event. The course is still in its doormat stage so the fairways and greens will not be at there best. The greens were in good shape - they verticut the greens however, it does not slow them down - they seemed to be running a little faster?

The fairways are not in the best condition right now. As stated previously they are still in transition. They will be good soon. The tee boxes were in good shape and the rough (aka trees) are fully blossomed -

This is a good course and great when it turns green.

just played this course on thursday the 22 of march. the course is in decent playing shape but the fairways are hard and dry with some dirt patches. greens are allaround in great shape. not very many divots in the greens. the locals must take care of their own. it seemed like it was a long round as we waited on basically every tee box. besides those things i think it is well worth the trip out there.

Wow!! What an experience and not in a good way. Showed up at about 9:20 for a 10:04 tee time. We were told by the starter that they were about 15 minutes behind, we didn't tee off until about 10:50 45 minutes after our tee time. Things didn't get much better, the greens were bad really bumpy. The fairways were maybe the worst fairways I've ever played. Just dirt in some areas, uncut 2-3 inch dormant grass in others. There were divots everywhere, I think our groups rolled into at least 10-12 divots, I guess that is expected when there is no grass or dormant grass. Bunkers were okay, I did have to tell a group that was playing 2 while we were on 3 that they needed to rake bunkers. I watched the guy hit out of a fairway bunker and then drive away.

The round took 6 hours so we barely finish before it got dark when our tee time was 10:04. 10:04 tee time, 45 minute delay, 6 hour round, we finished right around 4:50.

The fairways were almost completely dormant, but the greens were in pretty good shape. (We played 1/2/12.) Previously I would say this was great facility for the money, but with the price increase they're creeping out of that territory. I asked the Starter about the price increase. He didn't come right out and say it, but he said the powers that be in the City of Downey (who run the course) may have miscalculated about trying to squeeze more money out the course since raising the price has resulted in selling fewer rounds. Silly. Nonetheless, the restaurant and bar are one of the best.

Tried to get on this morning (12/23). They had frost delay and 5 to 6 groups on the tee waiting. My brother and I decided to play the back nine only. This review is only for the back nine. Conditions were very good. They have been mowing the greens more often as recommended by the USGA. Very reasonable food prices... We paid $21 to walk the back nine. They were charging holiday rates. At $61 to ride; I think the course is overpriced. Walking is $49. Rough and fairways were dormant. The sand traps were in good shape. The greens were in fantastic shape. Pace of play today had to be at least 5 plus hours. We finished the back nine in 2 hours without waiting. Won't come back on weekend or holidays for a while because it's too pricey and too crowded.

I like playing Rio Hondo ........ It has very narrow farways which challenge your game . The greens were very smooth , Median/ Fast .... The sand traps were in good shape , lots of sand . We played Thursday & it was a 5 hour round . Christmas crown . It is a little pricey but well worth playing once or twice a year .

Played RH today, chasing weber, apparently. Off at 10AM on a hot clear day with almost no wind - things really got hot on the back nine. I hadn't played here in almost 20 years - now a beautiful new clubhouse facility and a renovation in the late 90s really made the course look good. Lots of long par 4s and par 3s, while par 5s are not excessively long. Most holes framed by mature trees - some holes had fairly restricted hitting lanes of the tees. Generally flat and good for walking. Greens were excellent (punched ~4 weeks ago) - firm, smoth, and medium fast. Fairways thin but good, rough not too deep but sticky, good sand. Many tees were fairly wet (blues) and resulted in turf being moderately torn up. Many greens had pretty steep increasing slopes at the back.

Played with ringworld and RobStretch playing their first-round GK West match, and paisano. Very enjoyable day as we sought shade whenever possible. Water available, cart girl came by about 6 times. Disappointing pace on a weekday morning - 5 hours. Group in front (a fivesome) playing from wrong tees and had no concept of playing quickly. Two-level (mats) driving range that was well-maintained, and mats were new. Large putting green, but 1/2 was closed. Carts pretty old, windscreen did not fold down, no cooler or club cleaner. Didn't see a marshall all day, but many maintenance personnel aroung. Overall Recommended. (Traffic on the way there and home was a b*^^#$%$#&.)

Fun layout, great to have course knowledge to avoid unseen troubles. Tee to green was in pretty good condition, and can't remember a single complaint, with exception of unrepaired ball marks on the greens. Played a fun round with Ringworld, Robstretch, & DConnally. Makes the game and course seem funner. Slower day for a Thursday. Tee'd off at about 10, finished at about 3. 5somes are out playing here. Some long par 3's and reachable par 5's makes it very interesting and fun.
