played here for 1st time on 4/15/18 very early at 7:40. pace of play was respectable, done before 11:20, even behind a 5 some. enjoyed course, conditions what about what i expected for price. very easy to walk. didn't love tee shot off 18th hole but besides that the track is very much out in front of you and if played well, you can really score here.

I went on Saturday, 4/28, around 11:00 paired up with a twosome. Overall conditions were solid. Teeing grounds here are most often level with good coverage. Fairways had generally good coverage, although a bit firmer and tighter relative to some of the post-rain lushness I've seen on some other courses. Some fairways a bit more lush than others. Rough varies, depending on where you end up — anything from lush to thin or even the occasional hardpan spot — but mostly OK and playable. I was in several bunkers, generally groomed, and was able to play out of them consistently, so I'd say they were in good shape. Greens were in good shape, rolling around a decent, medium pace. I had at least a couple of putts in the ten to 15 foot range that were tracking towards the hole and, while I was expecting the usual muni deviation to happen before they reached the hole, they held their lines and dropped. So evidence indicates they were more than reasonably true. Always a pleasant surprise on a muni. We initially moved along well and it took us about eight holes to catch up with the effects of the tournament that went out a bit earlier. Some waiting after that and I think the net result was something under 4.5 hours. They've done some work in the clubhouse, and the service seems on point. There was time in the past when they would't take reservations for singles, but that is no longer an issue and i was able to call in a reservation for one a few days before. Solid LA County course in good shape. Definitely recommended.

Was invited to play SA by a good friend on 4/26 with a 9:03 tee time. Beautiful day out there. We checked in and was joined by a single. Very nice young man and enjoyed playing with him. He was new to the game and was still learning but he kept up with us. For a weekday, there were a lot of golfers out there and we finished in about 4.5 hours. Not really very fast but for Santa Anita where 5 hour rounds are not uncommon, we’ll take it.

First off I have to say the clubhouse remodeling is finished and it looks real nice. The clubhouse has wood floors, nice golf equipment, clothing and other items. Impressive.

So away we go off to the tee and interesting that the blue tees were about 5-10 yards behind the blue markers on just about every hole which means it played as long as it can. Never seen this before and it made a difference. Tee boxes were in good condition. Fairways were fine and we got good roll out. Bunkers are always in good shape here.

The greens however, were pretty slow. Only one word that I can think of to describe them - grainy! The only good thing I can say about these greens is there were very few ball marks.

Always enjoy playing here but same old, sorry greens. One day I will play here and find the greens in good shape. One day!

8:30am tee time on a nice Tuesday morning. Check in was smooth and first tee went with no issues. Tees were level with good coverage, fairways were still in winter condition and rolled out on drives. Bunkers had good sand and were well groomed. Greens are lush and soft with few unfixed divots. Greens rolled smooth but were very slow, could not get used to the speed even on downhill putts.
POP was 4.5 hours with no marshals. Good muni and variety of holes that will keep your interest.

Played my GK Cup match today at Santa Anita along with Nodoubles22 and Mattias. We played from the blue tees, paying I think $31 to walk with an 11:30am tee time. We actually got off a few groups later than that and the POP all day did not turn out great. Got to a lot of holes sometimes two groups deep and that got frustrating when trying to find a rhythm.

Aside from that though, the course is in pretty fine shape. Apparently they're not aerating here this spring so you can always be sure for the next few months that the greens won't be punched. Right now those same greens are in very nice shape, running at medium speed and holding their lines pretty well. Receptive to shots in some cases, not in others - see a little bit of both when it comes to that. No crazy breaks but definitely some greens with severe slope. Ball marks seemed to be at a minimum as well.

Fairways looking quite green right now, which is a nice thing to see after some thin months past. And while it's very green, there are of course still some thin lies out there that can be found, or even some poor coverage under some of the many big trees that block out the sun. But good for the most part. There are some areas of deep rough (more flowers (weeds?) than grass actually, but relatively playable.

Tee boxes are in good shape and I was in three bunkers and there always seemed to be ample sand, although I do remember seeing some rocks in the fairway bunker on the third hole. But again, a nice upgrade from the last time here.

Santa Anita is a very fun layout that both playing partners today enjoyed, seeing as it was both their first times playing this course. Despite lying in a flat area, the fairways are often anything but with plenty of mounding and unwanted side lies to be discovered. It's a good course to score well on when you're playing well, but it can ring up big scores if you're off your game. Shocking revelation there ...

Overall the course is in good shape right now and I would recommend a round there with no hesitation whatsoever. Do it.

6:30am tee time, which meant it was pitch black outside! I thought we had the first time, but when we checked in, was told we were third off?? We waited on the tee behind a bunch of people, until it was 6:30, then since nobody was willing to hit it, off we went. (If you make the tee time, you have to be willing to tee off regardless of conditions!)

Greens were the highlight of the course. They rolled very nicely, and were reasonably quick.. Bunkers were also excellent. Fairways/rough were iffy, some good, some not so good.

Being first out, great pace for the first 11 holes, then we hit the back nine play. Took 1 1/2 hours to play the first 11 holes, and 2 hours to play the next 7 holes. But it was a beautiful morning, so we didn't mind all that much. Santa Anita is probably my favorite LA County course, and for $16.50, what's not to like!

Played Santa Anita with SR129 on 2/6 on a beautiful February day. This has always been one of my favorite muni’s so I wanted to see if there were any improvements since the last time I was here about 3 months ago. As a twosome we were joined by 2 singles. Nice guys and made the long day enjoyable. I say long day because it was. We teed off around 10:15 and finished after 3:00. Just about 5 hours which is crazy for a weekday. Then again, we followed the slowest 4 some known to mankind! Regardless, I was impressed. Fairways were in good shape. Some bare spots out there but I feel that’s part of winter. I really didn’t have a bad lie. There really isn’t much rough to speak of so there was either grass or hard pan. Bunkers were in great condition as I was in a few. Sadly though, many of the bunkers were left unraked. Ugh! The greens were bumpy but rolled much better than the last time I was here. Pretty nice actually. Except for the long round, it was a very enjoyable day. Construction still happening in the club house and in the restaurant. Had to use the port a potty outside but fully expect SA will have a very nice look when complete. Also, the course is coming back nicely. Giving SA a thumbs up on their improvements and looking forward to coming back.

Another brief review, I got out this Sunday morning, 2/4, around 10:00, paired up with a twosome and another single — an enjoyable group — for about a five hour round. The weak point right now is the fairways. Although there is some underlying cushion in most places as well as coverage, they are definitely firm-ish and on the thin side overall which can also reveal more subtle bumps and depressions in the lies — something for which a non-winter grass would compensate. Still playable, with a good bit of rollout, but definitely winter conditions. The rest was all good: tees had enough coverage and were mostly level or close enough, rough mixed but mainly green and playable, bunkers were groomed and clean, and greens were nice, running the quick side of medium. It was a beautiful day to be out and I shot one of my better scores in a while, so any weaknesses in the the conditions didn't preclude making shots. Temper your expectations here and you probably won't be disappointed — maybe even pleasantly surprised.

Played here for the first time on Monday 1/29/18 after reading Weber's review and seeing GK'sspecial. The recent strong Santa Ana winds forecasted were also a factor in choosing here since it is protected by the nearby mountains. It turned out to be a perfect day with just a slight breeze and tempatures about 83. My group really did enjoy our day playing here. We finished in under four hours walking, thought the course was in decent shape especially the greens, liked the wide open layout and with the long par threes the course was a challenge. We even stopped for lunch after our round and the food was quite good. Personally, I think the course could use a few water holes and fairway bunkers to give it more personality but I understand it is a muni so chances are slim. We would definetly return for another leisure round.
