"Skylinks has finally re-opened, and the new course exceeds anything I could have imagined. The mounding and re-routing has created an entirely new look. New trees, flat tees, cavernous bunkers with pristine sand, the largest undulating greens I have ever seen, water on 4 holes, and excellent condition. The new fees are appreciably more, but well within the value of this beautiful course. Eat your heart out Eldorado and Recreation Park, theres a new sheriff in town. The clubhouse is not available yet, and there wont be a liquor license for a month or two, so BYO food and beverage if you want."

Played on Monday November 1st and was not impressed in the least. Tee'd off at 11:20 and did not finsh until 5:30 in the dark. The front nine took 3.5 hours by itself. Please not that this was a Monday. Wehn they re-built this course I thought it would get a new layout, but the best the did was add some sand traps and undulated the greens. The conditions were really good, the only bad thing is that the rough is not thick enough yet and your ball sinks to the ground. The greens are fast and smooth, but we all know that won't last, not in Long Beach anyways. The one huge complaint i have other than a 6.5 hour round, is that there is NO beverages sold on the course, in fact no food either. We were told they are wating for a liquor license, I didn't know that soda and what fell under that catagory. The could set up a BBQ and sell a fortune, but that would be the smart thing to do. The first hole is not good, they have put a lake on the first hole and is only 200 yards out in the middle of fairway. That started the slow play right away

Or on the board of directors?I have played there,a couple of times.It's your typical Pete Dye course....lots of tricks..just like PGA West stadium.
The way you go on and on about Long Beach, I assume you are the mayor or write for the Long Beach press Telegram as their golf reporter.
Like I said before,I WORK in Signal Hill and 4 of us at my work play there on our way home,so it's convenient for US.I could care less about you.....and I am guessing We(Bigmac and myself) won't be seeing you at Skylinks when it opens either since it is "The Black Eye of Long Beach courses" as you call it.

The general golfing public doesn't go there because the green fees are high, but the track is gimcky. You can get penalized for hitting a good tee shot. The perceived value isn't there.

Do you know anything about that track, it's management and current state?

The Legends course green fees will not be that high - initial estimates have been $35-45. If you know LB courses that well you would have known that.

You remember the course when it was in it's prime, not at it's state in the last decade. The course simply could not accommodate the demand of golf, and the facilities were outdated. Do you remember the food shack after #8? That thing hasn't been open in years. The track sucked - any true golfer could tell you that, and it was in desparate need for a facelift.

Some of us who used to ride our bicycle to the local muni are "enamored" with the course because at one time in its life, the course was maintained according to contract with the City of LB. Only a few years ago did Skylinks host the most rounds played out of all the LB courses (must be because it is such a horrible track). Gee, let's stop maintaining the course and buildings and then sell the city on this great plan to remodel...Hankola, did you forget about the surcharge all of us "enamorers" paid for the new sprinkler system? Move to Orange County and play and pay the fees you can obviously afford. The facilities were built with tax payers $ to be used by the citizens as recreation and not to be intended to put extra $$$ into the pockets of private businesses (AG) and the general fund. Did you ever play the course when the city maintained it? It was always known for the best greens in LB. You might be a LB resident, congratulations, but you certainly don't care about the history of Skylinks and the many memories us "enamorers" have. Hope you break 90 on your next round.

FYI ... I've never played Ocean Trails and played Pelican Hills twice.

I'm a LB resident so I know the local course much better than you.
