For some reason, I really like this course. I call it a long executive course. Its really a feel good course. The greens are always in pretty good condition. The fairways are fairly decent. The rough can get a little bare at times, but it doesnt provide much of an obstacle even when it is lush.

Westlake is relatively flat with a lot of water. Now thats a little misleading, as the water really only comes into play on one par 3 on each side. The rest is easily avoided with a decent drive.

Why do I like this course so much? Its extremely easy to get on, many times when we cant get a tee-time elsewhere, we can call up Westlake on a friday and get a good tee-time for saturday or sunday. The staff is extremely friendly. If we show up a bit early, they always get us on no problem. Cart-girl really gets around (in more ways than one...)

A few things that could be better: The water draws a lot of geese and ducks, who leave droppings ALL OVER THE PLACE. The course could use a little bit better of a drainage system, as at times it can be a little muddy. Marshalls are all over the place, but they dont do anything. many times there will be a group of jokers ahead who seem to cause 3+ groups to get backed up.

Another thing, the price is a little steep for this type of course. $37 to walk on a weekend, another $11.50 a person for a cart.

But because of its ease to get on, the friendliness of the staff, the nice clubhouse deli and bar, i'll keep coming back.

I'm a 8hcp and I have to agree with subpar..I've been living in the area for 30 years played em all..Definately not a Tierra or Moorpark CC or even Simi Hills for that matter but why do i always seem to have more fun at Westlake?...If ur a 10 or under it so much fun if your over 10 it will test you Lots of trouble on the wayward shot, what looks easy off the tee suddenly turns into a tough hole from the trees..Next time try what me and my buds do..Take 4 clubs and a putter not only does it make you hit golf shots...but the bag is lighter also!..

I play here 2-3 times a week so I think I am qualified to speak to the current conditions. GREAT!...for an "accessible" muni! The greens are in as good a shape as they have been for a long time (unlike Los Robles!). The fairways are a mix of wide open and tight, good for your game to have variety. While it is a par 67, Ted Robinson (who designed North Ranch, Calabassas, and other local tracks) laid out a track that feels like a full length course. Unless you are a scratch player or low handicapper, use your noodle on several of the short par 4's. They are trick holes with plenty of pain if you attempt to drive the green (5th hole has a tight fairway with water in play for the horribly sliced drive and Agoura Rd. for the slightly hooked shot; 8th has OB left and a tight, tree-lined fairway. Both holes have well bunkered greens). Several par 3's require all carry to reach the greens (longest is 180yds.). The customer service is great here which simply adds to the enjoyment. Range is right next to the clubhouse and putting green. Fun place to work on your game. Under $30 to walk around here? Priceless!

Played today at 7AM. Finished quickly. The course is in good shape, especially considering the heat recently. Fairways are pretty lush. The rough is nasty long to the point of making shots from there very difficult. The greens are really soft quite bumpy and very slow. The slowest I've ever seen them. My playing partner hit a shot with an 7 or 8 iron from the tee on a par 3 and the ball embedded 2/3's of itself about into the green. I'd never seen a fried egg lie on a green before. The biggest issue facing this course right now is that the tee boxes (especially on the back 9) are in really, really rough shape. Most of them are very uneven and really beat up. There are places to hit from, but the course really needs to consider doing something major about them. Today, very uncharacteristically, the maintenance crews were quite noticeable. Several times today they stood on the greens watering them and attempted to wave us up without stopping their watering, even when they were standing on the front of the green. They need to be aware of customers and be invisible when shots are beng played.

so stoked fired my best round of 64 (3under) yesterday (Sunday July 23rd). Teed off at 3pm played the back nine first then played the front and played course with cart in 3 hours with buddy. Hotter than heck outside 100 degrees. This is a good course to stroke ego, short but narrow, 6 par 4's that you can drive green if you can hit it 300+ and a short 450 yard par 5. Greens were slower than i remember.
