Westlake is a place I visit often because it's close to where I work and live and it's inexpensive. Many people consider it a executive course but it's a challenging place where it's you need to hit straight or you might hit a car on the freeway or nearby street, hit someone on another freeway or have a hard time finding your ball because of many trees and leaves that don't raked too often. You have to hit over water on three holes. Often there's a fair amount duck poop to maneuver around on fairways and greens but we don't complain much because the green fee costs are probably kept low due to limited staff.

Played the front nine today. Noticed they were aerating some of the fairways. Besides a few fairways the course was in great shape for Westlake GC. Greens have recovered from their aeration rather nic... Continue »

Played the front nine today. Noticed they were aerating some of the fairways. Besides a few fairways the course was in great shape for Westlake GC. Greens have recovered from their aeration rather nicely and the course was as green as I’ve seen it in a long time.

Not our favorite track, but today found to be in quite good condition for Westlake. Lots of play, mostly super slow paced but enjoyable.

I imagine that if they had a golf course in the middle of Manhattan, it would have about the same feel as Westlake. You can barely hear yourself think at times because of all the traffic noise.

I imagine that if they had a golf course in the middle of Manhattan, it would have about the same feel as Westlake. You can barely hear yourself think at times because of all the traffic noise.

The course is in okay shape and I have to admit that it was cheap to play twilight ($15 w/cart). We had some idea that we could get all 18 holes in after work, but the play was extremely slow and we never made it.

I am not sure I will play there again no matter how cheap. Its just not golf if you have to tee off next to an 18-wheeler sitting at a stoplight airing its brakes.

Played 3/10 and the course has dried out considerably. The recent storms have caused the removal of some trees, in most cases for the better. Before the storms they had a tree trimming project going on which appears to have been completed successfully. There are still a couple of spots on #6 where it is still very muddy and it's roped off. The greens are in remarkably good shape, especially considering the amount of use Westlake gets. The greens seem to me to be cut shorter than they have been in a while, and they are quite nice. I've never seen the course as lush as it is now, but I wish they would level out a couple of the tee boxes. The staff, as always, is as friendly and accomodating as can be.

Played today 3/6/05. Course conditions were really poor in many areas with muddy fairways and puddles from the recent rains. I was suspect that course has a drainage problem. Greens, however were in fairly good shape and rolling well and true. Played Sunday with a 7:00 ish tee-time and made it out with my foursome in 4.5 hours walking. All in all, not bad.
