I imagine that if they had a golf course in the middle of Manhattan, it would have about the same feel as Westlake. You can barely hear yourself think at times because of all the traffic noise.

The course is in okay shape and I have to admit that it was cheap to play twilight ($15 w/cart). We had some idea that we could get all 18 holes in after work, but the play was extremely slow and we never made it.

I am not sure I will play there again no matter how cheap. Its just not golf if you have to tee off next to an 18-wheeler sitting at a stoplight airing its brakes.

I played Sandpiper last Friday morning. It is a nice course layed out along the Pacific Ocean. The greens were in good shape and extremely fast. They were actually some of the hardest greens I have played. If you misjudged them in the slightest, the ball vaulted way past the hole. As far as the playing experience goes, I was expecting a little more drama considering that part of the course is right along the ocean. You really did have to make an effort on some holes to see the ocean on your approach to the greens, so I found myself actually forgetting the ocean was there. The course was still cart path only so play was annoyingly slow at times. Overall it is a quality course and I would put it on the same level as Sterling Hills - I am still not convinced that it is worth the $125 greens fees so I would think twice before playing there again.

I played Simi Hills on Sunday Feb 20. As you can imagine, the course was wet and overgrown but we still could not resist the temptation to get out on the course. We got 9 holes in before it started to storm. Getting anywhere in the rough buried the ball in four-inch swampy grass. I can imagine that this will not change over the next couple of weeks. I have grown to like Simi Hills as it is a fairly well maintained course at a good price. The other courses that we play are Tierra Rejada and Moorpark. They are super nice courses, but its hard to justify the $90 fee every weekend. One bad thing about Simi Hills is that they only take weekend reservations 5 days in advance. If you are unable to get a good time when you call, its hard to find a tee time at one of the other courses because most take reservations 7 days in advance, so they are already full. Other than that, Simi is worth the money.
