Played here on 5/12/20, my first round post lockdown. Pop 4hrs 15mins walking (as a solo I got paired with an elderly couple and played at their pace so they wouldn’t feel rushed) didn’t get bogged down by traffic jams on any holes because of the 10 min tee time spacing being implemented. Foam inserts in the pins are cool didn’t have any balls pop back out of the hole. Fairways were really dry had some good roll out when i hit them, rough thick as usual, course conditions are the same as pre-lockdown.

Only negative though is I did see is a 4some (young dudes my age in their 20s-30s) a few groups behind us that were riding as doubles and sharing clubs (1 set per cart) from my understanding I thought all LA County courses were limited to single riders per golf cart, 1 bag per cart, & no club sharing. If they were within the guidelines cool if not then Woodley definitely needs to post some Marshalls out there cause I didn’t see one my whole round.

Got in a twilight round at Woodley Lakes end of last week and the full restrictions were in place regarding the virus precautions. Not much to glean from the numbers as the course had standing water just about everywhere and finally actually lived up to its name in that regard.

It was too soon to see the benefits of that precipitation with so much of the course being a muddy bog, but hopefully in a few days/weeks time, it will be in great shape. The greens were slow and bumpy of course but that's understandable as well being so soft underfoot. Held shots well at least ...

Fairways, again, soaked and not draining well at all - at least that was the case a few days ago. Tee boxes were actually mostly okay and the bunkers were actually better than anticipated with all the moisture. Rough was varied throughout the course.

Layout is about as straightforward and rudimentary as you can get, but it does make for some interesting obstacle course driving with all the roped-off areas for carts due to all the water on the ground. Again, don't dive too deep into the ratings this week since the weather and restrictions played heavily into it. Can't wait for things to get back to normal.

Rough post-storm conditions at Woodley Lakes this past weekend on Saturday. No carts were allowed on the course due to all the standing water and so all the push carts were already taken. Smart idea but poor execution.

Literally lakes roped off in the middle of at least half of the fairways. Very frustrating to hit nice shots that would just end with a big splash and no roll whatsoever - not the course's fault for the rain per se but this is not a course that drains well at all. Bunkers were also filled with water in many spots. Tee boxes were mostly all set up in one area to minimize damage, so those were pretty beat up by mid-day.

Greens were the best part of the course. Inconsistent speeds throughout the day but generally in very good condition and rolling true if speed was correctly judged. Not a lot of mystery to Woodley Lakes greens - what you see is what you get.

I would definitely wait a bit before getting out there again but hopefully, when the water recedes, this good confidence course will look a little greener and lusher than before.

Played on Sunday 1/6 with Mr. Kich. It had rained the day before which made for a bit of a muddy walk, but the course overall drained well and it was very playable. I always arrive at Woodley with very low expectations due to the relatively bland course and the average to below average conditions, but more often than not I leave pleasantly surprised.

Greens were the highlight of the course. Definitely slow and soft due to the rain, but they were fairly smooth. Some ball marks due the how soft they were and discourteous golfers, but it wasn't too bad.

Fairways were dormant and ugly looking, but there were fewer than usual bare spots and a good lie was not difficult to find.

Rough is always a grab bag here. Spongy longer grass, bare areas. Not overly penal, but it really stops your ball and can make some of the long holes even longer.

Sand was fine, average to above average. The rain had given it a nice crusty upper layer, and besides some standing water on a few of the out of the way fairway bunkers, they all played consistently and well.

Tees were a little beat up but it was not hard to find a clean level spot.

The pace of play was surprisingly quick for a Sunday morning. As a 3-some with 2 walkers, we finished in about 4:15 minutes.

No frills to be found. This is just golf, some of the cheapest around. You obviously get what you pay for, but sometimes you just want to hit the ball, work on some stuff, and enjoy being outside. Woodley is just the place for that.

Sunday round at Woodley Lakes with Kassper7 and the course was pretty much in the exact shape we expected it to be. But before we got to the course itself, I saw the new driving range here and it actually looks great.

As for the course itself, again, it's Woodley, so you're going to find many patchy and dry areas around the main sections of the fairways, but you can also find some good grass if you're putting the ball in play in the right places. The rough is often preferred to the thin sections off the fairways. Also lots of muddy, thin and grabby areas around the greens.

Speaking of the greens, they were actually faster than expected for much of the day, especially late when the sun came out more on a perfect winter LA day. They held shots well, rolled mostly true and were medium-fast pace. Ball marks here and there, but not too shabby.

Fairways bunkers had better sand than greenside bunkers so that's weird. Tee boxes were serviceable but of course could always use a little extra care at a high traffic course like Woodley. POP was quite good throughout with only minimal waiting as we were paired with an older father-son combo who were good playing partners.

Wide open fairways and getting some confidence back is what Woodley is all about. Not a lot of 'interesting' holes here per se, but enough fun and length to keep you honest and still need to put in the work. Not a bad option right now at all.

I played here last Friday, May 11, 2018, at just after 12:00 noon. My nephew and I rode for $48, I think. POP was about 4.5 hours, mostly due to the crowded course. It moved along okay for the most part and since my nephew is really a beginner, it was fine.

The course is great to get your confidence up as well. Despite windy afternoon conditions and sketchy ball striking, I managed to score well (for me).

Greens were slow. Not as bad as in the previous review from mdames, but you really had to give your putts a good whack to get to the hole. They did run fairly smooth, with only an occasional small hop.

Fairways and rough varied from semi-lush to thin and spotty. For the most part you could have a decent lie no matter where you ended up.

I cannot comment on the sand, as we were not in any bunkers.

Tees were mostly level (we played the blue markers) and had a few divots here and there but it was easy to find a good spot to hit from.

We did stop in the "restaurant" afterwards for a couple of burgers and fries. Word of advice, "Don't bother." It was not very good. However, the drinks that the nice, young lady poured were decent (gin and tonic with Bombay Sapphire). Of note: Cat, the bartender, was very easy on the eyes and gave me a slight discount on my drinks. She seemed pleased with all the attention she got from the late afternoon golfers who came in for beers. I'd go back just to order up from Cat. Meow!

Walked on as a single and teed off with a twosome at 7:20am Friday 5/4. Finished the round in 3 hrs. 45 minutes, with very little waiting on the group in front of us. Overall, the course is playable. The fairways are aren't lush by any means, but they are fine to hit from. The rough is not penal and is spotty; ranging from 1/2 inch to 2 inches. Tee boxes are a bit chewed up, but you can usually find a decent spot to tee up. I was in one greenside bunker. The sand was plentiful and firm. No trouble to hit from. The big disappointment is the greens. They punched and sanded the greens about 3.5 weeks ago. But the greens were PAINFULLY slow and quite bumpy. It took me nearly the entire round to finally hit the ball hard enough to get it to the hole. I hit several putts that were tracking toward the middle only to be bounced offline and slowed down by the many bumps on every green. I would wait another 2 weeks for the greens to properly heal if you want to play this course and be able to putt well.

Played this morning early with a couple of friends. Woodley has always been a course to get your head straight. What i mean by that is, when my game has me dazed and confused, I'll play Woodley to get my confidence back. What you see here is what you get. Ample wide fairways and not a huge amount of trouble. It's also a golf course that you can enjoy a great, non-hilly walk. Right now the greens I believe are the best of any other city course. My compliments to the greenskeeper. They have a very nice practice facility. It's only my opinion, but, if they brought in a designer and put in some more strategic waste bunkers and water hazards this course could be so much more interesting. I just don't know what would happen to the eco-structure. In any case, it was a good morning. Mission accomplished.

Played a windy Sunday round at Woodley Lakes with Kassper7 and finished up pretty amazingly in around four and a half hours. The high winds and tough play must have kept many away. But it was still a pretty fun round despite the trying conditions.

Fairways are very thin but playable - some worse than others. When you have very thin lies around the greens it makes for very difficult chipping and pitching. Occasionally you could also find yourself in a dirt patch as well which is not ideal. The rough was just slightly higher than the fairway grass and not too penal at all - often times preferable.

Greens were in okay shape, rolling actually medium-fast but with a lot of ball marks and debris on them throughout the day. Can't really blame all the debris though on anything but the heavy wind so keep that in mind. Bunkers were okay throughout the course, and the tee boxes got the job done.

Woodley Lakes will rarely be the type of layout or scenery that will inspire a great round of golf, but it's even more stark when the conditions are a bit sub-par compared to normal. I think it will get better in time and hope it does as it's always a good track to play when wanting to work on some swing or path changes and get the confidence back up.
