Out at Candlewood Thursday morning trying to stay outta the way of some light rain. Walked it solo for $60 at a leisurely 3.5 hr pace ... not crowded so plenty of time to play a Mr. Blue vs. Mr. White match (White won +1). I'm one who enjoys this mix of traditional and quirky, as most holes are straight forward but a few make you scratch your head (#9 comes to mind where they stuff the tee box in the absolute deepest corner of the golf course). Anyway, the course is Kikuyu rough (and I mean the super sticky kind that dconnally hates) and Poa greens just coming out of aeration (give them another week and they'll be great). Most putts were a bit unstable, not quite medium speed but manageable. Bunkers are a darker type of sand, easy to play from and well maintained. Golfnow has public tee times available w/cart. Golf boards are available but might be for members only, not sure. I'll be back.

Played here for the first time on Monday in a charity golf scramble. if first impressions mean anything, then this place looked like a dump. Very old school with paint coming off the clubhouse and wood looking like it needs replacing. Not a country club I would want to join.

I read the reviews of this place and they are pretty right on. very tight, but the course is in good shape.

The greens are fantastic, very receptive, but very fast.. being above the hole is suicide.

Tee boxes are a little shaggy and chewed up, but still playable.

Fairways: are good with good coverage and the ball set-up nicely on them. A little divot damage and can tell the course does not get a lot of play.

Rough: is hit or miss with many different grasses throughout the course. Since this was a scramble , didn't have to play out of it very much.

Bunkers: seem more like dirt than sand. We were in one green side bunker and it played very nice. raked my ball out of a fairway bunker and it seemed like it was firm packed down dirt/sand mixture.

The carts are very basic with no ice chest or GPS on board. Having a good GPS at this course definitely helps. The course plays tight, but you can still play a nice fade or draw off the tee. Slices or hooks are dead. A strong 3-wood player will do good here. Not a long course, but still no push over.

looks like a course that would go public, but with it being so tight, I think it would make for a very slow round if the general public got to play.

I would come back for a charity event again, but its not a course that is a must replay.

Played yesterday morning on a GolfNow special of $65. When we arrived at the course we were the told the greens were just punched on Monday so that was a bit of bummer. However, no one was on the course and the POP was fantastic. Greens review is not applicable because they were still in rough shape to aerification but the rest of the course was really good. It's tight and short but plays longer due to most greens being elevated. Great layout and real shot maker course. My friend and I really liked the course, the layout and the facilities.

They are running some really good membership deals and we are seriously considering joining. I would like to see how the greens are once they are back to 100%. Locker rooms were small but nice and the bar/restaurant was a bit dated but had a 1960-70's feel to it which was actually pretty cool. They have a really nice outdoor patio seating area that overlooks some holes and the putting green area. It's not LACC or Riviera but it's a great little course with great POP.

Played on Sunday 1/15 Golfnow special $42. First time playing here. $5 to hit the range with unlimited balls. It's a fairly tight and short course but plays a bit longer than yardage due to many second shots playing uphill. The conditions overall are good. Tee boxes are level for the most part. Fairways are good but not great. The rough is patchy, weakest part of the course. Bunkers are on the thin side but playable. The greens are the best part of the course, on the fast side but very soft and holds all shot very well. I didn't see a cart girl all day. The snack shop next to the proshop doesn't take cash. Pace of play was great. Under 4 hours. Overall it was a enjoyable experience. I recommend playing here.

I took advantage of a GolfNow offering for 12:30 yesterday out here. I got sent out a little early, teeing off with two other non-members around 12:10. Pace was decent although we waited on most shots. Oddly, the group ahead of us let us play through after the 11th hole and then we caught another group a couple holes later. All told, pace very good at a little under 4:00.

Conditions are generally good. The greens are quite fast but not all that pure. They seem to have a thin layer of grass on top of a muddy base, so they are prone to minor imperfections. Balls stopped very quickly, and I even had a few balls land and spin back on me. Some pretty severe slope on some greens, too, and if the ball caught that slope, it often wouldn't stop for a while. A couple greens were in noticeably inferior condition to the others. Fairway grass ranged from lush to thin to bare spots, although all of the fairway bare spots were painted as GUR. The rough was also a mixed bag, but mostly good coverage. Bare spots in the rough were not marked as GUR, so you deal with whatever you get. A few holes looked to have some irrigation trenches being dug/worked on, but those areas were obviously GUR. Tee boxes were decent/good, and same for all of the bunkers I was in.

Despite playing less than 6200 yards, this is quite a difficult course. On many holes, it's chokingly tight due to tons of trees. The greens are tricky to read. There are some funky holes and some very straightforward holes. It has a nice classic look and yesterday it was bathed in sunlight with long shadows all over the place, which I love. Just like evildrummer, I used GolfNow to get a $55 noon Saturday tee time at C-Wood in Whittier. Agree: it's an old school facility and a very tight, tree-lined course ... doesn't play long but you need to strategically place shots off the tee on most holes to be able to score here. Greens are well protected by bunkers (found 5) which were mostly good depth of sand but gotta keep an eye out for thin areas to avoid a flyer. Greens still showing signs of aeration and super-soft, so spike marks from the 4 some ahead were throwing balls off line. Need another week or two but rolled at a quick-ish speed all things considered. We got around as a two ball behind foursomes in a tick over 4 hrs. GF included cart. Will surely look to play here again as I enjoyed the quirky layout, not a traditional style course but challenging off the tee. They said they will keep selling times to help with revenue and prices may jump a bit, but considering it's a course you do not get a chance to play normally I'll take advantage as long as it's offered. Considering I played Mile Sq. last Saturday for about the same price, this course would be my preference.

GolfNow is offering limited tee times on this private track now. Got a 12:30 tee time for $44, plus an extra $5 for use of the practice facilities. It rained fairly hard for about 30 minutes before we teed off, so the course was quite wet throughout the round, but it still played well.

The course appears to be coming out of maintenance. The tee boxes were recently aerated and hadn't been cut in a while, so it was tough finding a good location to hit from. The fairways were mostly lush and cut fairly tight, with rough ranging from insignificant to impossible. Bunkers were wet due to the rain, but were still very playable and not hard pan at all. The greens are probably 2 weeks out from being totally healed from punching but still rolled quite fast and held shots very well. Lots of undulation on most greens, being below the hole is key.

This is definitely an old school country club, with narrow fairways and mature trees lining them, making accuracy a must. Way more elevation changes than expected as well. I can't wait to get another shot at playing here once the course is in prime condition.
