Played here yesterday as part of an SCGA member outing. I've always heard great things about this course and it didn't disappoint. We had a 10:00 shotgun start and I was fortunate to be in the first group out on #10, so I got to play both nines in full sequential order, though the 10th is a beast of a par-5 that doglegs left around the corner and then uphill, so it seems like forever before you see the green! Pace of play was good for one of these events, especially considering it was cart path only, and we finished in about 4.5 hours. The course was in exceptional condition all the way around. With Monday being maintenance day, we saw a ton of workers throughout the course and they are doing a great job. Even after the rains, the course drained well and wasn't too soggy in any key playing areas. Tee boxes were like carpet. Fairways beautiful and lush. Rough well maintained. With the drought you can tell they are not paying as much attention to some of the outer areas and spots that don't come much into play, which is understandable. Bunkers had good soft sand. The greens were magnificent. The rain softened them up significantly, so that helped with approaches. Putts were fast and true, just perfect. You really have to hit uphill putts firm and downhillers you just barely need to get started most of the time. One thing we noticed that I've never seen at another course is that the greenskeepers were plugging in new turf where old ball marks weren't healing. They just took an inch-wide circle out of the repair green and then pulled and plugged any bad ball marks on the real greens. I'd guess this heals much quicker and keeps the putting surfaces nice and smooth for members. Pretty interesting process either way. This is definitely a course worth playing if you ever get the chance. Gorgeous clubhouse and nice facilities. Really fun and challenging old school design. Lots of trees, contour and really cool bunkering. Just a great traditional course with a neat old LA country club vibe.
