Such a treat and instantly one of my all-time favorite courses played. Teed it up with GK’ers Speedy (thanks for the invite Jeff), sixpez and Itslikeimsayin. Repeatedly I was told that the course was probably in the worst condition all year…are you kidding me? Place was in great shape. Jeff was telling me, wait until you see it after overseeding…Jeff I would love to see it! – lol.

I drove out all the way from Westlake Village in the early morning, got there in just over an hour. Amazing how quick you can get around LA with no traffic. At first pulling up, I anticipated a short hilly course winding its way through a small canyon lined with homes. But then I saw the bunkers on 18, took a look at the scorecard – Par 71, 6955 74.1/137 and starting thinking…survival. Actually once out on the course I pretty much stayed in awe all day. The layout has so much beauty, character, challenge, fairness and flat out fun golf holes to play, just fell in love with the place. Before the round wondered around the clubhouse a bit and was memorized by the long history of great names that have played Hacienda Golf Club.

As far as the conditions, greens were some of the nicest I have played all year. Get this, they replace the ball marks with small cylinders so you never have to deal with old ball mark damage. Smooth, running about 10.5 speed and holding shots well. I understand the club likes the greens around 11.5 so we caught them on “slow” day – oh, tell that to my missed downhill putts that kept rolling and rolling – lol. The fairways were 95% lush with occasional brown/thin areas. The rough about also 90% lush, not very penal, with occasional brown/thin areas. Bunkers, perfect, giving them a 10 rating and what a treat to play. Tee boxes, lush, completely level and cut tight.

I will play this course every chance I get. It’s that fantastic. I love the layout, seclusion, friendly members and facilities. Highly Recommended.

What an amazing experience to play this wonderful, classic course. Simply one of the best courses I've ever played. Huge thanks to Speedy, JohnnyGK and sixpez for inviting me out.

Not much I can add to sixpez's review, conditions wise. I echo his assessment on all counts. Tee boxes were excellent. Fairways were very good. Rough was a little spotty here and there but good 95% of the time. Greens were medium-fast, smooth and beautiful. They accepted full shots very well. Sand was excellent in every bunker I was in. And crazier yet, these are just about the worst conditions they'll have all year, as they are scheduled to close for overseeding in just about 10 days.

What a great day at Hacienda today. So many thanks to GK'er Speedy for having myself, JohnnyGK and Itslikeimsayin out for a round at his club. Jeff is such a great guy and even acted as our unofficial caddie for the day, providing tons of helpful course tips, strategies and information. I'll never forget where the lowest point on the course is!!! : ) We were the first group out behind several groups of early bird old-timers and we never saw them after the first hole. Good, relaxed pace. The course is just a couple weeks away for closing down for its fall overseed, yet is still in excellent shape. The tee boxes surfaces are a dream to hit from, even though the tee shots are very intimidating. The fairways were mostly fantastic with only a few minor blemishes here and there. The rough had some more inconsistencies and thin spots, but the coverage was still very nice overall. The greens were exceptional. Soft and receptive, but rolling smooth and true. The bunkers were also ideal with a soft base of sand in all the ones I visited. This was my second time playing Hacienda and I hope it's not my last. This is such a great course with so much history and character. Old school kind of layout that feels like Riviera at times. On a similar level as the classic LA clubs, but just a little lesser known because of its location. Awesome bunkering. Very challenging, with many holes requiring length, accuracy and proper strategy. The course (especially from the blue tees) does not suit a short fade hitter like myself, but it's a beating I'm happy to take because the layout, setting and presentation of the course are so enjoyable on every level. Great breakfast burrito at the turn shack and then excellent lunch in the clubhouse after our round. Truly a wonderful private club experience. If you ever get a chance to play here, take advantage!

Let me just say this course is beautiful, but incredibly difficult. If you can't drive it 250 yds, DON'T play here. Good PoP, service in the 19th hole was great. I probably won't be back...think I'll stay with the Goose, Oak Quarry, Oak Creek, and Eagle Glen...

Great course and challenging with tricky greens You will defiantly use all the clubs in your bag. Conditions were great ,sand consistent, greens were running true if you get a chance do play here!

Had the good fortune to play a great private course today at Hacienda Golf Club. Two friends who are members at Rolling Hills CC organized the round (reciprocity while RHCC is closed during redesign), and the fee for such a high end course ($110) was totally worth it. Small range, but adequate to warm up, we then started off at 10:30 playing the whites as only one in our foursome had ever played the course before. By the end of the day, my friend described Hacienda as very reminiscent of Riviera in many facets. High praise indeed. Unfortunately a day or two after heavy rains the course was cart path only. I never seem to play well when it's CPO! But it does give one a chance to really experience the contours and toughness of Hacienda. The layout is really top notch and each hole has its own distinct character - there's really not one throw-away. The visuals are stunning and you must really think your way around every single hole. Not sure I've played many courses where angles on approach meant so very much. As for conditions, as you would expect, pretty darn magical, especially for someone like me who frequents LA Munis far more often than private clubs. The fairways are very lush and probably could even use some trimming, but probably waiting until course fully dries up. The very occasional GUR (mostly from rains) and dry patch in low traffic areas does nothing to hamper the experience. Rough was uniform and fantastic throughout. Penal but not jail. Sand traps were surprisingly pedestrian, but functional - surprised by that, actually. Sand was superior at Chester Washington! The tee boxes? Amazing. Perfect in every way. Now for the most important thing - the greens. My friend (member at Colorado Golf Club) said the greens were best he'd ever played in winter LA. They ran dead straight and were incredibly fast. A slight tap and you could find your ball 10ft past the hole. Many tricky reads and undulations forcing scores up and up! Really tough, but crazy fun. Courses like Hacienda bring one back down to earth. I thought I had been playing quite well lately but this superior track exposed every flaw in my game and shook my confidence to the core. It's amazing how different the game becomes from one course to the next. And Hacienda kicked my butt in true fashion. Can't speak about the clubhouse amenities as we had to depart rather quickly after the round, but of course aesthetically it looked superb. Wish we had more time to hang out but good part is my friends loved it so much they promised we're all going back soon.

Played yesterday in the SCGA outing. What a great golf course. Judging by the photos, the course was actually in better condition than last year's SCGA outing. The course was green and lush and playing slightly soft, even with this year's drought.

This is one of the most difficult courses I've played, but at the same time it is very fair. By that I mean that you are penalized for bad shots, but you still have recovery opportunities in most cases. This isn't desert or canyon golf in the sense that you're either in the fairway or you're teeing up your third shot. The greens are quick and smooth, but not so fast that pretty good putts will get away from you.

The overall design is a pleasure to play. There are long and short par 3s and 4s, and the par 5s are all great risk-reward holes. If you are a long hitter, they are reachable in two after two well-struck shots, but if you don't execute, they can bite you (especially 17 - favor the left edge off that tee).

Had a chance to play this track with a member yesterday. Very challenging course that demands accuracy on every tee shot. I have nothing bad to say about the course except for what it did to my score.... Continue »

I have nothing bad to say about the course except for what it did to my score. Greens rolled true and were very fast. It felt like I was putting on glass for a moment. I couldn't get used to the speed of the greens all day. Tee boxes, fairways, and bunkers were in immaculate conditions. You couldn't find a bad lie all day except if you're in an old divot. If you ever get a chance to play this course, I highly recommend this place. You will not be disappointed. Bring a lot of balls, you're going to need it.

Thanks to GK member Ingsho I had a chance to play this fantastic course today. There is not one boring hole here. Course condition was an 8 out of 10 in almost category except maybe the bunkers. They were inconsistent in the amount of sand in them. The course was built in 1920 which showed in the heights of all the trees. Great test of golf and I would go back here anytime.
