Was invited to play out here today. Cold sunny day but fun course to play. Tee boxes were all lush/green (compared to my last visit) and very playable. Fairways were a mixed bag. Some had good coverage/lies/roll, while others were just acceptable (most likely the time of year). Rough was about 1/2 inch and very difficult to hit from. Bunkers were all clean/playable. Greens were in great shape and putted/chipped (with speed) all round. Great customer service at all levels. Great food in the clubhouse. If you have the opportunity to play here, do so.

Played today on the Member for a Day promo. Pace of play was right on 3 H. No one in front of me on the front 9. Starting on ten they had a 12 man member tourney, but was able to work my way through them very easily. Had never played here, so was very interested in doing so. Course is right off 57 highway (between 10 and 210) as well as Via Verde exit from the 10. Course has a nice putting green located right next to the 1st tee, as well as the driving range next to 1st tee as well (very convenient). Course is a mixture of downhill and uphill holes, due to the course sitting in a little valley. Nice set of par 3's (one fairly flat, one straight uphill and 2 downhill) that are of good length and challenging for all handicaps (nothing outrageous). Bunkers were great (only in one) with nice soft/playable sand. The rough is thick and penal outside of the fairways, which are very generous/wide. The par 4's and par 5's are a good mixture in length, with many of the holes playing all uphill (like # 18, 496 all uphill). They had just punched the greens about 10-12 days ago and some had healed nicely, while others still had aeration remnants. So putting and chipping where slow. Greens are very large and look to be very challenging when in top shape. Fairways (nice and green) needed cutting, so very little roll out during the round, but the lies were fine. The tee boxes had been "scalped" and were brown, but did not effect teeing the ball up in any way (they were also sanding some of them today). There were two holes that had water and from the tee box they looked huge (like infinity pools) and gave the impression the carry was longer than it appeared (very interesting). Also, on # 9 right after coming off 8 green, there is a staircase (45 steps) to # 9 green, if you are walking and don't want to walk around the corner (I think I would walk around). Customer service was excellent at all levels. If you ever have the opportunity to play here? Take advantage of it. The next promo offer that comes my way, I will play again, so I can hopefully see the course in top shape.

Played Via Verde on Monday 10/9 as part of a scramble tournament. Have played in this tournament for several years and always look forward to it as I rarely get the opportunity to play here. I enjoy the fun layout but being a private club, it has become a little rough around the edges. Has a muni look to it! There were iron bars inside the windows and door of the club house which I haven’t seen before. Sign of the times I guess. I remember when I first started to play here and it was so nice.

Kikuyu grass is starting to take over some of the fairways but are still in good shape. The rough was ragged. The thick, kikuyu rough was not cut and seemed to be growing wildly. Some of these areas were wet and carts had run through them making a mud mess. Bunkers were in very good condition which was nice to see. Good, firm sand.

The greens however were in great shape and are a bit tricky to read. They rolled very nicely, were fast and held good shots. Actually, I had my ball back up after hitting the green. Kind of neat to see.

I will always enjoy playing here and if ever invited back, I am there. You get some clear views of the San Gabriel mountains. I know a couple members here and never heard them complain about the course but I am thinking this will likely open to the public sometime in the future.

Hadn't played Via Verde Country Club in over 30 years and you could tell that the years and the drought has taken its toll on the course. Still not in terrible shape, but you can tell that they are trying to recover from the past few years of drought and the current heat wave. Tee boxes were good with only a few bare spots to contend with. The fairways were decent, but not great. They are starting green up, but were still on the dry side with few bare spots to deal with. All in all not that bad. The greens were in good shape with the exception of a lot of unrepaired ball marks. It doesnt take that long to repair a couple of ball marks on the greens, but I am seeing this a lot more lately. The bunkers were perfect, well groomed and plenty of sand in them. For a private course its not what you would expect and that would account for the low membership, but it is still a fun course to play and its not a long course and can be fun for all handicap levels.
