Playing this golf course you are definitely reminded about what golf used to be. This is a track that will really require you to hit the ball straight and work shots both ways in order to score well. It is on the shorter side by todays standards, but at almost 6,400 from the tips and a few holes playing uphill the yardage may actually play a bit higher than the scorecard reads. In terms of conditions, most greens are in good shape (a few bare patches on a few holes) that putt true and fairly quick. Plenty of undulation keeps both long and short putts interesting, while downhill putts are treacherous. Fairways are in fair shape, with some thatching and bare spots evident. Rough is cut low but will do a good job of grabbing poor tee shots and making approach shots tricky. Tee boxes very from hole to hole and bunkers can be quite inconsistent. Overall it is a nice representation of an older 1920s style course that could stand to benefit from slightly better conditioning.

Have not played Woodland Hills for a couple years, so it was nice to return and play with my older brother who is a member. Despite it being ladies guest day, we were able to get out without delay and played a nice easy 3 1/2 hour round without waiting or being pushed. Weather was really nice, sunny, warm & clear.

Greens are always a challenge at this course, so important to understand which holes not to get above the cup or short side yourself, otherwise it can be brutal to get up & down or even 2 putt. The bunkers were some of the best I've seen since the whole Covid crap began. Even had rakes, which was such a pleasure to see ! Fairways were good, but the rough was inconsistent.

Not a lot of roll out, so course played long. Do not let the "short" yardage deceive you, as this course is much more difficult than the score card would lead you to believe. Despite playing really poorly, enjoyed a great day.

Got the invite to play a new private course for the first time last Friday, so of course there would be no turning the offer to play Woodland Hills CC down. A friend of a friend joined the club recently, and actually got a pretty darn good deal to join - won't go into details but look into it. Heard some interesting stories about the layout here and did some investigating before the round, and all of it was true. While there are a few really great holes here in the more traditional sense of course design, the layout is chock full of quirky par 3s, crazy narrow driving lanes, and a number of blind shots in both directions of elevation. There are some holes where the tips (6300 yards) play from tee boxes literally right next to opposing greens. On the third hole, you have to wait for the people on the fifth hole to tee off if you want to keep your head attached. This place gets a little wild. But the conditions are pretty great, so you have to really be forgiving on the weirdness. And speaking of weirdness, did I mention there's no real driving range, but a little triangle tucked between the 10th and 18th holes where you can hit anything up to a pitching wedge? Fabulous. But yes, the conditions. Superb. Some of the fastest greens I've seen in a long time, and they were incredibly difficult to control on any downhill slopes, of which of course there are many. Almost all of them, actually. Fairways and rough in really great shape. Some super lush, green vistas to see when you're in the heart of the course, but it feels a bit like an obscure Muni when playing the bizarre and isolated holes 6 and 7. But overall it's got country club written all over it. Bunkers were filled with lovely white sand and played perfectly. Tee boxes? A bit weird in terms of design, but conditions were fine enough. Many of the tee boxes are tucked away into tight quarters and require paying attention when turning corners if your friends are hitting away. Stay alert! The routing can also be a bit confusing I would guess if not playing with a member, but luckily we had that covered. Would I come back? I definitely plan on it. Course knowledge is a must here. You absolutely must be committed to your shot here. There are some crazy tight angles to work here so scores can get away from you very quickly. Then add in those super fast greens and you have your work cut out for you in a big way. Will definitely head back when I can. Worth a few more visits despite the wackiness. And there were only three pictures of this place so I took some from all 18 to get an idea of its unique nature.

Played an SCGA outing here for $75. Couldn't get a sense if I would like this course but was thinking I wouldn't based on public opinion. This is definitely a golf gods course. There is a fine line between success and failure here and I could see two people play basically the same and have very different days. Luckily most of my bad shots ended up in a reasonable place and only one or two good shots didn't get the love I was expecting. So in the end I would say I liked the course quite a bit. The quirks of everything being squished together were outweighed by the beauty, the variety, and how well the course was maintained.

Right off, I noticed it was in mostly great shape - green grass everywhere and smooth fast greens that made downhill putting an adventure. Rough was the right height for stopping your ball and punishing you some but not too much that you hate the trade off. Which is good - because hitting the fairway here is often unlikely.

Our shotgun group probably started on the worst stretch of holes on the course - three holes nestled up against boundary fences with houses on the other side. One was a short par 3 so that helped the pucker factor a bit. After that I found most of the holes quite interesting and enjoyable. While often tight - I found the visuals off the tee interesting and when people in our group missed (which we did a lot) it wasn't like you couldn't find your ball - get it back in play and hope for bogey.

No driving range because - you know - space. Still - I recommend giving it a try.

Finally played Woodland Hills yesterday after setting up a preview round through the membership director. I joined up with a threesome of members and we teed off around 1:40. They warned me that there was a big Friday skins game ahead of us, though they bragged that they like to maintain a 3.5-hour minimum pace here. It seemed slower than it actually was at times, especially on the back nine, but we still finished right around 3.5 hours. Even the members commented that this is about as slow as it ever gets here unless there is a huge tournament going on.

The course conditions were good overall for winter. For the most part, it was pretty green out here and looked nice in the late afternoon sun/shadows. Clear day afforded some really nice views on the elevated tees and greens. Tee boxes were overseeded and excellent. Fairways a mix of grasses (back nine primarily kikuyu and front seemed to have a few grass types in play). A few really tight/firm spots, but mostly really good fairway lies. The rough was reasonably lush in the areas that mattered and then there were some sandy turf-reduced areas and waste bunkers once you got out toward the edges and under trees.

The greens were firm and rolling very smooth at medium-fast speeds. I do not think they would want these greens running any faster for casual play because anything downhill was very difficult to stop and there are a lot of steep slopes here! Basically, whatever read or speed your eyes show you, double it. I think I was in just about every bunker on the front nine. They were well-raked and I encountered a good sand base under all but one of my shots, though the sand type/texture varied from bunker to bunker, so you really have to pay attention to your bunker lies.

There was a lot to like about Woodland Hills, including the setting and the demanding target layout. Some could definitely call it a bit too quirky and funky, especially with some tricky doglegs, trees that cut off certain lines, many uphill approach shots, awkward/confusing routing and severely side-slanted fairways. It is definitely not a left-to-right cut/slice friendly layout because of those aforementioned trees and a majority of fairways sloping hard to the right. You gotta be able to hit it straight or curve it both ways into the slopes to be successful here. There were only a handful of tee shots where I felt comfortable to swing away and I rarely got any favorable bounces. Let's just say the course did not treat me well and it's not one I'd want to play everyday without completely changing my game, but I still probably liked it a little more than I expected to based on what I've always heard about it.

Despite the fact my brother is a member here, I rarely make the drive. In part because of the restriction on when the first tee time is available. After making the long drive with my bride, was informed that it was men's guest day, so no ladies allowed until after noon. We were allowed to play the back nine, but prohibited from playing the front nine, so just my brother & I played the front.

Course was in nice shape. Greens were quick and rolled true. Speed was about what I expected, quick, but not too fast. It would have helped had I had a little more "local knowledge", but as I had not played here since 2009, didn't remember all the subtle breaks on the greens. Cost a couple strokes, but I kind of expected to lose a few as the greens are always a challenge here. I found the changes made to the course very positive, particularly the redesign of the bunkers. Played the blue tees, which has creates a few tough holes when you don't have any length. Still, fun day.

Got a chance to play here yesterday for $60 through the SCGA. This was my foursome first time her and we really enjoyed the feel of this place. Everyone was extremely nice and the course was very interesting and challenging. With the exception of divots on the par 3 tee boxes, everything was in excellent shape.(8 out of 10) Pace was 4.5 hours, snack bar was open and took cash, everything was green and groomed. We would love to go back.

Off at 10:30 and bunched together with foresome on the same invite, pace was a little slow with "golfers" hacking their way around....4 1/2 hours w/ a 15 min stop at the turn for "free food"
The course is in good shape with the drought.
There were some bare spots ringing the greens.
The greens are super fast and you have to spend sometime reading them if you dont have them memorized, but they do break to Ventura Bl.
They added some bunkers and removed some of the not needed grass areas which saves water and hunting......
It is a hilly course with bends and lots of trees.
The day was enjoyable and not that hot for Woodland Hills.
Played the course a second time solo with not a person to be seen, 1 1/4 hours, eat your heart out MJ!
