Played the course for the first time today. Courteous service right from pulling into valet. Pro shop was attentive and the Starter was definitely on the ball to make sure everybody had a good time. Lots of holes with great views, almost distracting to the game (but certainly in a good way).

Tee boxes were in good shape, greens were kept up as well - slower that I am normally used to, even after practicing for a little bit at the practice green. Bunkers had a good soft sand, but were often inconsistent - and believe me, I got to try a lot of them today (unfortunately).

It's certainly a challenging course, especially for a resort course. I don't know, however, if I would play at full price.

Today I had the pleasure of playing the free round I won at the Mt. Woodson outing (thanks, again, to Johnny). I had always wanted to play here, but the green fees kept me away. It was a real treat.

Today I had the pleasure of playing the free round I won at the Mt. Woodson outing (thanks, again, to Johnny). I had always wanted to play here, but the green fees kept me away. It was a real treat.
Customer service was great. I got professional and attentive treatment from the valet, pro shop employees, starter, snack bar, cart girl ... everybody.
As for the golf course itself, it is a fun, tight little layout with only a couple holes actually on the ocean (though there are beautiful views throughout the course).
Course conditions were generally very good. The greens were thick and lush, but slow to medium speed. The sand in the bunkers is the best I've ever seen. On the negative side, I will say that I would have been a little disappointed in the fairways and rough if I had paid $175. There were spots in several fairways that were thin or browned out, and the rough was a little patchy or muddy in some areas.
All in all, I would say that Monarch Beach provides an enjoyable, upscale golf experience for those lucky enough to be able to afford it.

Played 9-15-10......Car valeted ---nice touch. No driving range but they have some hitting booths to warm up in. Fair enough--this is some expensive real estate you are on. Putting green was superb.

Got off right on time. Pace of play excellent--finished in 4:45. Bunkers........the bunkers here are the best bunkers I have played in all of SoCal. They had a crew on one hole actually roto-tilling them and then raking em up---THAT my friends is attention to detail. The ocean holes were gorgeous.
That being said---the holes here are very pretty, but none really stand out. I thought the course reminded me of Talega down the road a bit. Except Talega is reasonable, the fees here, while understandable, are steep and for my money--I'd rather play Talega---same feel w/out the ocean holes.
If you want some ocean views and want to be treated well and you dont mind dropping $175+--well then head on out there.
If you just want the nice golf, hit up some of the other OC tracks.

Played in a scramble tournament at Monarch Beach Golf Links today 6-18. The course was in immaculate shape with exception to the greens that are still recovering from aeration but are at this point in good condition, but not the typical perfect shape you normally find them to be at this course. The weather was outstanding – mid 70’s and the service was it typical exceptional. I love the high class treatment and atmosphere this course provides. Even the surrounding homes and residents walking the perimeter of the course are symbols of wealth. You want to feel like a “big shot” or impress a fellow business associate?...come play this course.

The course also provides an outstanding layout with ocean views on a few front nine holes, ocean breezes, challenging bunkers, interesting doglegs, undulating greens and tight fairways (but not to the point of target golf). I think the biggest challenge to scoring on the course is handing the par 3’s of which 3 of them require precise shots over water.

This is my third time playing the course and I can’t wait to go back. The OC Golf Trail card provides a 50% discount on 1st visit and then 35% discounts on return visits…with that savings, you can’t beat this golf experience.

I gave this course two 10's. I don't give out 10's very often but I was very happy with the condition of the greens and bunkers. Boy, does it make hitting out of fairway and greenside bunkers easier when the sand is in perfect condition. The fairways are in stark contrast to the rest of the course. They are thin with lots of dry spots. Number 3 is a slice of heaven. Numbers 7 and 8 are two very difficult holes.

What a great course. First time playing and now I see that prior playing experience here will help significantly. Course itself is in great shape. Fairways and greens are perfect, sand looks nice, but not as fluffy as I'd prefer. Tee boxes are great. Only problem were inconsistent rough. Some of it is nice and long, other parts was very thin and mud. Layout is very nice, a few doglegs and some places you can't see the hole from the tee box. Staff was very nice with complementary valet and taking your bag to the cart for you, as well as a nice clean up and carry the clubs to your trunk of you car that is waiting right outside the door. Played with an OC trail card that Bobdaninja gave to me from the GK Robinson Ranch event, but even at regular price, you get a very nice course.

Played on 08/11/09.First of all, I am glad I played for the discounted twilite rate.The course was fairly nice.The 3rd hole was beautiful as it is right on the beach.The problems with the course are,the sand traps are terrible.They look good from the outside but when you hit your bunker shot,there is no sand underneath.The cart paths do not let you have access to many fairways.The greens were nice and the customer service was great.If you choose this course,look for twilite rate.Enjoy!

played afternoon of 8-11-09. My virgin round on this track, and it was a mixed bag. The Good: the service is top notch, and playing next to a beautiful ocean and beach is unbeatable (especially since there were a lot of nice sights on the beach...if you know what I mean). The Bad: because the property isn't very large, and really is just the side of a big hill, the routing isn't very good. A lot of short par 4s, a lot of doglegs and a number of blind shots. Plus, there are 6 holes where you can't take the golf cart out onto the fairway, so the flow is affected - and it isn't a walkers' course either. The Ugly: the conditioning. For the price, one would expect first rate conditioning. Tee boxes were a little shaggy, and the greens weren't smooth either. They rolled on the medium fast side and there were a number of ballmarks. Conclusion: The whole St Regis Resort vibe is very, very nice, but the golf experience is lacking. There are much better tracks for the money in SoCal, but this is a good place to have a drink on the patio.
