I played this course last month, and then again last week and this week. I'm not sure why Machnov didn't like the course. It's in good shape, and the service is second to none. Very few worn spots, and the greens are in terrific shape. My only gripe is the bunkers, and I've been in plenty of them. They get this green crud, I suspect from water not evaporating. Many are always wet, and some are hard underneath, so your club skids across the top if you have the face too far open. The layout is among my favorites in the area. It can get windy and cool in the summer, which is a pleasant change from the 90+ degree days at the more inland courses. With the Links Club it's too good a deal to pass up.

I have to say that we were shockingly disappointed. This course has always been in great shape and one of the enjoyable courses in the area to play, But on this day, it was not worth the green fees.

Great golf course. Superb service, nice greens. Great views on a couple of holes on the front, but back nine is rather pedestrian.

What a dream to play this course! I had 2 friends in from Chicago to play golf and I used this as an excuse to play a couple of courses that I normally would not play due to the cost. Going from playing a muni every weekend to playing an opulent, resort style course was a treat.

We arrived 30 minutes prior to our slated tee time (2:59pm). From the second we pulled into the valet, the high level of service which we would become accustomed to by the end of our round began. An employee helped us with our bags, but more importantly jumped right into conversation about the course conditions and how we were fortunate to have perfect weather to play in. He also told us right away that we would be able to get some extra holes in and encouraged us to play as many as we can before it got dark. We took advantage of his recommendation and finished 23 holes in slightly over 4.5 hours.

What took me by surprise is the treatment we received from valet to pro shop to concessions to cart girl...they all treated us with the upmost respect and unbelievable enthusiasm. I had concerns about this before arriving at the course, I assumed that we would be looked down upon considering the price and prestige of this course (3 younger guys, shirts untucked, in shorts, unkept clubs, cluttered bags with some cheap brands, even some knockoffs in my buddy's bag, drinking beers before even getting to the first tee box)...but they treated us as if we pulled up in the phantom limo with staff bags full of tour issued clubs. To say the least the service was impeccable and it didn't stop there. At the end of our 18 the employees got us 6 more beers for pretty much a tip.

The course has plenty of reviews which are spot on and the conditions were amazing. But the service stood out above anything else. Plus the ocean views were just what my buddies from chicago were expecting.

Played at 9am this Sunday morning. Course is in great shape. Very few ball marks and greens were fantastic. Our group had 6 birdies. What a difference putting on good greens makes. Get it on line and... Continue »

Played at 9am this Sunday morning. Course is in great shape. Very few ball marks and greens were fantastic. Our group had 6 birdies. What a difference putting on good greens makes. Get it on line and let it go. Played in exactly 4 hours and waited a little on the back. Cart staff gave us warm towels and offered to wipe down the clubs after the round.

Great day.

Played 4/13 and course was in great shape. Ball sits up on fairways with bare or brown spots. Greens were nice with few pitch marks; they were firm and relatively fast. Tee boxes were good enough that I didn't to tee it up on par 3s. Only gripe was there were too many holes that were cart path only so you could not use their GPS and did not see any markers. Pricey at rack rate but lots on discounts including Golfextra that I used for $90.

In a nutshell ... A class act all around! Not too crowded, (weather could have been a factor as rain was expected this morning...), a very well maintained course and a very nice staff. I found the course not TOO challanging (if you are hitting it fairly straight.) Water comes into play on a few holes that could make things interesting for those who balk at such things. Most holes have a fairly large landing, or target area. The greens run a bit quicker than most public tracks in OC, but I would expect that a a course of this quality. Yes, the greens fees are steep, but the course is so well maintained that it made for a very enjoyable experience! The course has a couple of awesome signature holes. #3 overlooks the ocean where you can even have your picture taken by an automatic camera just off the green and pick it up at the clubhouse. If you have the money and opportunity, (or get a free round, as I was blessed with today), I'd highly recommend Monarch Beach Golf Links!

Played yesterday. This is an amazing golf course. There are 2 ocean holes that run along the beach. A short par 4 and a par 3.

This course offers great playing conditions. Every aspect of the course is in immaculate condition. This course is not too difficult from tee to fairway. However, the greens are the trickiest I have ever played. Very undulating and lightning fast. A lot of bends. A bad putt can roll off the green. At times just wrong, yet a fun challenge.

The course is primarily flat. It is well bunkered. Course played longer than 6600 yards. Air was heavy. A lot of dog legs. Buy the course book if playing for the first time. The course it self gets five stars.

However, there is no driving range. Warm up area is a series of hitting nets. Free for players to use. Price was a bit steep though. Course should be closer to $100 not $200.

Lots of public foot traffic that I do not remember from previous rounds. Great day. I will be back if the price is right.
