Played 1/16/13, teed off @ 950a. Great conditions as always! I love coming here, I just wished I lived closer so I can take advantage of the crown club card - great deal for what you get. Tee boxes good to great, they rotate them out frequently to make sure they don't get beat up. Fairways were really nice given the cold weather lately. Rough is on the short side to speed up play/add to the enjoyment. Greens were rolling really good and are well maintained. This course does not beat you up like pelican hills does in price and playability. Overall, it's always a great time when I come down here.

Ok, where do I start? This is one of the most well kept facilities I've ever played. Mind you, it's a public course with the country club treatment and amenities. The course was in prestine shape for this time of year. I don't have anything negative to say. The greens were very fast and rolled true. Very tough putting these greens because they are all multi leveled so depending on where the flag stick is, it's all about ball placement. The staff was attentative, polite, and very warming. The layout is nice but pretty tough. This course will challenge even the best golfer...played with a 5 HC and he had some struggles at times but still shot an 80. It was my first time playing this course so it beat me up even more so due to the lack of knowledge. Definitely will play this track again. I'm always up for a challenge.

played on black friday 11-23. Been wanting to play this course for years. Found a tee time for a great price online. When i got to the course, i realized there is no self parking(valet only). Also no range(besides a 4 hitting stalls). Those mats needed replacement as it was like hitting off concrete. Got off on time paired with another single(went out as a twosome). Pace of play wasn't to bad, but we did wait on most holes as expected. Course conditions were good besides the bunker which i thought were excellent. The 3-4 bunkers i was in i saw few unraked footprints(not the courses fault). Course pretty much has two holes that view the ocean. Cant really describe the last 4-5 holes on the course due to HEAVY fog that came on to the course. Couldn't see past 50 yards due to the fog. Not sure i would play this course at the rack rate or twilight rate they have, but at the discount rate i got, definitely.

Played Monarch Beach Golf Links about a week an a half ago with ringworld and really enjoyed it. Thought the course was in great shape. Lush fairways and rough with bermunda grass still in place due to the unseasonably warm temps in October. The greens were also lush and healthy although a times a little bumpy because we were playing in the late afternoon. I think if you tee it up here in the morning the greens would be much smoother. Overall the greens were in great shape, rolling medium-fast and holding shots. With this review, being I was in a sand trap on virtually every hole, LOL, I’d say I got a great perspective on them…the conditions of the bunkers are excellent with an abundance of high quality sand and well groomed. The tee boxes, had some divot damage but for most part were in great shape being level and lush.

When new management OB Sports took over for Troon, at first I was not sure if they would maintain the course at as high of a level that Troon is known for…OB Sports is actually improving the conditions of the course. I also learned that Monarch Beach, unlike many surrounding high-end courses in the area, overseeded. It will be interesting to see how lush the rye grass comes in since it’s been smothered by the current bermuda grass. My guess is it will come in excellent and in fact the course will lay-down even more seed with cooler temps now. Monarch Beach will likely be one the few courses in the area that will not have dormant fairways this winter.

This is an outstanding layout immersed in the upscale neighborhood of Dana Point. It’s a high-end golf experience all the way with superb service, club house and ambiance. The only negative about the experience is the lack of a driving range. They do provide free hitting cages and practice putting green to warm up on.

Wow. That's the one word I would use to describe this golf course and facility. Tee to green there isn't a lot say but, "Wow!" Greens were a little bumpy towards the evening BUT rolled true, and fast. Aggressive puts are rewarded but overly aggressive puts are penalized. What you see is what you get from this course so pay attention to your yardage. Fairways are LUSH. Sand in bunkers fluffy with a little bite at the bottom for bounce. Tee boxes are flat and lush.

Nice feature on this course are the pins. They all have this laser enhancement that allows a range finder to give not only accurate readings to the flag but extremely FAST readings. You won't spend time spotting your target or using the group ahead to get a distance here. You get a quick, accurate reading simply by pointing your range finder at the flag every time. Used this in conjunction with the onboard GPS in every cart as well as my handy dandy Voice Caddy. Amazingly the Voice Caddy gave great readings on the fly away from the golf cart and very accurate readings to the green when compared to my range finder.

Pace of play was fast, but a little on the crowded side. There was what looked like a scramble tournament played before we arrived so pace of play was a little slower than what was originally expected. Aside from this, course conditions are immaculate. If I were you I would take them up on the offer because with the conditions as they are currently and the expected pace of play... it's a deal and perhaps more importantly a memorable round of golf!

Condition was close to immaculate. Tee boxes were flat and undamaged, fairways were lush with no brown spots, greens were rolling true, undamaged, but a little on the slow side. Over all, the best course in the O.C in my opinion. Even at regular rate, Monarch Beach is much better than the overpriced courses like Strawberry Farms and Tustin Ranch.

Customer service was top notch. The starter took his time explaining everything to us and gave us pointers. There was plenty of complementary ice cold water, tees, ball markers, and divot tools. They don't have a driving range, but that doesn't bother me much. I'm not there to work on my game, and I was able to warm up hitting into a net. They do have a very nice practice green, which I think is more import to have.

Over all, a great day of fun at a beautiful course!

Played today @ 11am twosome. First time playing this course and had high expectations as a Troon course. Weather, service and views were excellent today but found the course conditions not up to par with other Troon courses. Fairways were dry with many filled divots and aeration holes. Will probably need lots of water and warm weather before it improves. Greens were smooth probably due to it being dry and hard so less ball marks. On several water holes, the green slopes down toward water so very very difficult to be aggressive with your greenside bunker shots. Probably the most difficult part was not knowing how far to hit your tee shots as many holes do not present well as you view it from tee ground. I'm sure with more visits many of the difficulties noted here can be overcome. However, I don't think we'll be willing to pay the going rate to find out. For those wanting to play this course, I'd suggest waiting till at least April for fairways to fill in and even out.
