I wanted to give this course another chance. The conditions this time around was better than the first time I played here, but the layout and the conditions is something else to be desired. There are a lot of bare spots on the edges of the rough/fairway, and the elevated tees makes play even more challenging.

Had a confirmed tee time for two at 8:24 a.m. this morning. After getting in line behind 5 people and finally getting ready to pay, the starter - KEVIN tells me that I am a couple minutes too late and he's given my spot away. What a dick. I tell him that I've been waiting in line to pay for the last 10 minutes and that is the reason I was late.

This guy never looks up to look at any of his customers. NEVER. He is like the weird guy down the street that always looks at the floor and never looks up.

After discussing my options with him, Kevin basically tells me I have to wait at least two hours to get on. I then tell him ok. I pay $7 for a large bucket and walk over to the range.

This range sucks because the poles that hold up the awings to the range are way too close for two players to hit side-by-side. This is especially true if you are hitting next to a lefty and you both have to share the space between the two poles.

After hitting a couple of balls, this really chubby lady starts blocking off golf stations near us and puts her placard (Charmaign Summers) on all the stations.

Apparently, she is the golf pro for the Orange County Golf Academy. I would love to play a roud wit here :-)

First time playing this par-70 course. As previously mentioned, the course is mostly situated in the Santa Ana River bed. Many of the fairways run parallel to the river bed or play across it. A large sand waste area fills a portion of the central river bed bordering numerous fairways. Most of the greens and many tee boxes are elevated, some dramatically so. Generally, I would describe the layout as narrow, target and eccentric. It starts out with a short par-4 and then tight back-toback 3's, so it backs up right away before opening to the par-5 4th hole. Given the limitations of putting a course into this space, I can't get too critical about their layout options. But some holes are just strange, such as the short par-4 11th, where it really makes more sense to hit deep into the 8th fairway next door and approach from there rather than hit through the trees blocking much of the 11th -- unless you can fly a 300+ yd drive to the green. As advertised, the greens are reasonably quick and in very good shape. The fairways are generally OK in the style of municipal fairways. They are a bit harder and more roll down by the river, and relatively more lush on the fairways elevated away from the river. Tee boxes were good. They allow fivesomes. I didn't count how many they put out and we were part of a 2+2 foursome. All I know is that we went out @7:30 and it was a 5+ hour round. Too long, but I can hang with that on a weekend and I generally had a good time (I was playing golf, right?). But since I am not local to the course, I am not tempted to go back. Local+twighlight rates -- probably would do it again but not too often. One of the prior reviews mention $15 twighlight weekday rate, walking. Perhaps they allow that , but the rates posted on their site include a cart -- no option. And this is where they immediately lost me on potential future business. I walk whenever I can. I can see that some course layouts really require carts because of long distances between holes, etc., but this wasn't one of them, even with elevated tees and greens. Someone who wants to walk this course should be allowed to and pay accordingly. The Greenskeeper page for this course shows the the cart as an extra cost, implying the walking option. Based on my experience yesterday, this is not the case.

Bottom line, I don't regret playing it once, but I probably won't be back.

This is a fun little course that is mostly situated in the Santa Ana River bed. The greens are up on the backs and many of the fairways run in the river bed or acrossed it. At $15.00 for twilight walking it is a bargan. It played very quick for my son and I for a friday afternoon (3/28). The staff is friendly and it is a good place to work on your game for a resoanble price.

I don't really know what to say about this course. The layout is extremely odd. There are like 7 par 3's, a bunch of par 5's, but only a few 4 pars. Additionally, the way the river runs through the middle of the course makes most of those fairways quite narrow, and play very thin. The greens were good. Pace of play was attrocious, with my group playing as a 5some and keeping up with a 4some who was a hole behind. No marshall. Weird place, but enjoyable.

The fairways were better in some places than others, but overall they were pretty good. I can't remember any tee boxes that were really bad. umm.. Ya definitely fun, loved the greens..
