Play here every other week for the last year on weekdays only. Last played 9/2/25 12pm-4:15 so pretty good pace I would say. I play this course mainly NOT for its general conditions but because of its overall difficulty, meaning narrow fairways with well positioned obstacles usually poor hard packed traps, challenging slope issues no "Gimmie putts" here. Greens here are usually healthy and soft on approach, but I find myself always fixing other's ball marks.
these greens could easily roll better if more golfers would treat them like the investment they are. I've played here 60 times and only once broke 80. My handycap stands at 11.8 at this writting and really should be killing it by now. My game at other courses is mid 80's nearly always and most I've only played once or twice. My point is the 'View keeps me honest and does reflect a steady improvement in my game elsewhere. Other issues here include older carts all of which have some type of issue. Yes they do have GPS. Cart paths are tired so watch yourself out there. Tee boxes in shady areas are suffering horribly. Bad tee boxes really get in my head, footing issues, unlevel at times also. At this point in the season a good matt system would be better at some tees. Fairways are a 3 out of 5 possible. Family run business just won't or can't invest any more money here. I get it. A for value for the $ it's priced right and pretty central to all of O.C. Apologies for much of the negative comments just being real here. I will still sharpen my game here for sure. All staff here is plesant and helpfull, driving range is tired but at least they have one. Thanx for reading.

7/23/25 8:27 am tee time. Wednesday mornings seem a good time to play here as of late. 4.5 hour play time was nice pace. 5* greens , fair fairways, decent traps, some teeboxes in rough shape. Played here over 50 times in the last 3.5 years, always keeps my game sharp. First 3 hole setup is a bit unusual, you get a 300yd par 4 ( very gettable), and then 2 par 3's back to back. Then the fun starts as "Everything rolls to the river". Enjoy! Fees are very modest considering this is the heart of Orange County Ca. A new fleet of carts would be nice someday.Ok driving range on site, matts only, area could use a refresh in my opinion. Family run business and all staff are friendly polite and professional.

Technical. You'll do well if you know your shot shape and distances. Holes 1, 2 and 3 are pretty good to get you dialed in before presenting the 1st elevated tee box and green combination with a fairly narrow fairway (compared to the first) and that's pretty much the rest of the course with a few embankment to embankment par 3s.

As of Feb 7th, they are using the rain layout. They have Course Conditions on their site explaining why.

Pace is slowish on weekends/holidays, I played 2/18 with a 9am tee time and was in the car heading home at 10:49am after playing 9 holes. During the week it can be pretty empty.

played here saturday 12/16 as a threesome. never played here before, but thinking it was a course along the river, figured it'd be fairly flat. WRONG. this is a pretty tough course for walkers, with a lot of ups and downs and long tee to green walks through some interesting terrain. certainly not a very pretty course as it runs alongside the river. many holes are very very narrow and close to each other, so it's very target golf oriented. not a forgiving course, especially if you're not sure where to miss. a lot of tiny fairways that roll out into a sandy/watery wasteland area. some of those sandy areas are very beach-like and you can hit off them but not fun. tee boxes were all pretty beat up, fairways had decent lies, some better than others. greens are in good shape but could not judge speeds on them all day. some were very soft, many of the greens are also very small. pace of play is awful. basically a wait on every tee box, sometimes 2 groups behind. overall a little over 5.5 hours. as i mentioned, not a course conducive to walking as there were no benches anywhere on the course. there was a cart girl, but she was parked. definitely won't be coming back here any time soon as the course is just too gimicky for my liking

12/11 nice late fall morning. POP right at 4hr on a fairly busy day. Course is in generally ok shape with some residual damage from the hurricane. Some fairways were flooded and #13 specifically has about 1/4 of its fairway left with sand and dirt adjacent to the river. No overseeding so fairways are a mix of grasses and lies are varied and random. So you get the rub of the green experience on occassion. Rough is spotty with again varied grasses so some areas thin others coud be longer and thicker. Tees on the par 3s are beat up. Bunkers have enough sand and overall were playable.
Greens have good cover but tended to vary in speed and had some grain to factor in along with the slope. Overall River View is worth the occasional play and considering green fees now days it is definitely a value play, just dont expect higher end fancy.

Played 8/21/22 1:09 tee time. Course was in typical shape (i.e. terrible). Pace of play was slow, the carts were constantly hampered by the GPS restrictions, the tee boxes were abysmal, the fairways were shoddy; the greens were however in decent shape, so I will give them that. I would generally advise you avoid this course if you care about conditions even a little. If, however, you enjoy playing on a run down goat track, THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU!

Played River View for the first time with an OC Meetup group at 8:21am on Sunday morning, 6/12/22. First time here for the two guys I played with, as well, so we all discovered the course together. I’ve lived in the OC for 45 years and never played here, and I have to say I won’t likely be rushing back. The course is pretty quirky and limited in design by playing up and back along the river and up and down off the riverside bluffs and down onto the banks. So there are a lot of holes that look and play very similar.

The course was crowded and, while we started on time, we waited on every shot after that. Seemed longer than the 2:20 on each side, I guess because of the waiting, but finished in around 4:40, which isn’t too bad on a weekend morning. There was a “lesson”-type thing going on in the group ahead of us, but it looked like they were waiting on the people in front of them, as well.

Conditions were pretty average. Greens had good coverage and rolled pretty well at medium+ speed. Not too many unrepaired ballmarks. Some greens have minor tiering at the back or some minor undulation, but most are fairly level. Some greens were pretty soft and receptive; others were much firmer and approaches took longer bounces. Fairway lies were pretty thin and we saw many large areas where turf was patchy or absent. Rough was variable, from mown areas to wildly-growing deep yikes, as well as areas that were bares and leaf-covered. Holes playing along the river had large stretches of river sand to be avoided. It’s hard to hit to these elevated greens off a bare/thin lie, and then the slope/runup to these perched greens is lush and difficult to play from. Traps were firm with thin layers of coarse sand. Tees were generally flat but many showed a lot of divot damages – partially-filled divot mix bottles on the carts, but no divot mix boxes on the par-3 tees, and no refill rack.

Some really visually-challenging holes. #3 is a longer very narrow par-3 flanked by large trees with a couple of intervening traps. Hole #11 is even more extreme – a shorter par-4 that basically a hallway between huge trees, with a ridge running down the fairway to funnel your ball into the bare dirt under the right trees, if you can hit straight enough to avoid the forest.

Shop is very basic, and so were carts with only a generic GPS to the MOG. No cart girl, but a snack bar in the clubhouse at the turn. Range on mats. Huge putting green with a putting “course” set up – conditions of that green were pretty lush and similar/nicer than the on-course greens. Course infrastructure conditions cry out for maintenance/improvement, but it doesn’t look like ownership is putting much back into the place.

We also had the new experience of seeing a homeless guy get arrested right next to us as we were playing the 4th green – cops had guns drawn and everything. Apparently he was following/harassing a woman golfer in the group ahead of us. So more of the local charm here.

Meat and potatoes golf and what would be a last option for me. Hilarious comment of the day by one of my playing partners: “seems like they packed 10 pounds of sh*t into a 5-pound bag!”

found out i had the day off in the morning and looked for a same day tee time just to get some practice in. river view had wide open spots, so ok, it's not the best but it's cheap and close. booked. regretted it as soon as i got there. no starter, about 12 people in chaos on the 1st tee. guy in pro shop said it's a 'free for all.' super slow 5 hours of torture behind groups looking for their balls all day. course layout is just weird. tee boxes were actually sort of okay, fairways were kind of patchy but overall had fair but uneven coverage. greens were soft, spongy, and shaggy running very slow. sand was wet and compacted. do not recommend unless you have at least 5-6 beers in you.

1/12 $28 using teeoff dealtime was able to join a 2some and get out about 30 min early but still puit in a 430 POP which was mostly on our group as we started slowly waiting for the 1st 4 holes then just continued to meander even as the groups ahead moved out, also there was no push from behind until the last 2 holes.
Conditions were mixed with the greens bing the highlight, very healthy and well maintained, receptive to full shots while being deceptively quick with some subtle breaks both from the slope and to an extent the grain. Tees thin and damaged on the 3s. Bunkers either had heavy sand or some really coarse river sand.
Fairways were marginal with varied grasses some thin sandy areas and a few patches of good grass. Recent rains/floods did not help. Rough also patchy.
Carts have good GPS. Large putting green. Range with soft mats. Friendly staff.
