Played 4.17.10 and the course was in very fine condition. The greens were true and held approach shots. The majority of the break is towards the ocean. Fairways have come in and the warm weather will make the burmuda much more lush. The afternoon breeze effects play on hole 13 on, especially 16. One of the better muni's in southern California and on my normal rotation.

Just finished playing the back nine, played the whole course yesterday. The sand on the aerated greens has filtered down so now the greens are quite bumpy. The aprons around the greens were punched and sanded last week. The sand again has worked down so that is not too much of a problem. Today the crew is aerating and sanding the tees. This warm weather should help the greens heal quicker.

They have airified!!! But, they did a great job. The ball rolls pretty well dispite the sand. I still had a few putts knocked off line due to the sand and holes. The rest of the course is in good... Continue »

The rest of the course is in good shape. The practice green and driving range are lousy.... always have been and probably always will be.

Played 8/22 and the course was in it's usual good shape. A few tees were being worked on and were therefore roped off at the tips, I assume in prep for the city championship(?). Some baby trees have been planted behind the 2nd tee/right side of the 11th fw. Very dumb in my opinion. They serve no purpose and when they mature will use up water in that area that will take away from the grass and add more to maint. costs. In addition, it will take away from the genreal openess of the views across the course.

This is a good municipal course. I played on Sunday July 19 at 6:15am. I arrived as a single and was joined with a 3-some. We played in less than 3 ½ hours. The course layout was very fun with some challenging holes. The condition was probably average for a municipal course. It had some worn areas but nothing you couldn’t play through. I would definitely play again. It is well worth the price and must play at least once. You definitely have to know where the ocean is at all times in order to read putts.

I really enjoyed this course.I do have to say,when I pulled into the parking lot and saw the public look to the course,I was worried.But after I teed off I loved the feel of the course,the cool breeze from the ocean and the friendly people I played with.The greens were very nice,rolled true.Check out the coy pond behind the 8th tee box.Biggest coy you will ever see.Enjoy!

Yesterday was a postcard day at San Clemente. The sky was clear and a constant breeze to keep you cool, especially for a 4some of walkers. Local knowledge on the greens is needed for a good score. Most putts will break towards the ocean. The last 4 holes are challenging with elevation changes and the afternoon ocean breeze.

It has been a while since I played SC - new clubhouse and redone parking lot. The course still has character and charm with many mature trees. The burmuda grass has just come in so the fairways are in excellent condition and the rough can be a challenge to hit more than a short iron. The greens were punched a few weeks ago and are still slow and bumpy, but held approach shots. Number 6 remains a difficult park 4 back to the clubhouse and the par 3 15th remains one of the best in Southern Californa, plus the view! We saw the cart girl several times on each 9.
