Played SC Muni on 1/8. Standard Muni conditions - greens and fairways excellent. Rough and tees good with the usual trouble spots.

Of note, vandals partied on #3 green the night before, so #3 has a temp green while repairs are made. My guess (based on nothing - just a guess) is they will have the green back in play in a few days, but it will be a while until it fully recovers.

Played Muni on 11/15/24. Sorry for not posting more Muni reviews as I do usually play here every other week, but there is rarely any changes for a really solid Muni course.

Played Muni on 11/15/24. Sorry for not posting more Muni reviews as I do usually play here every other week, but there is rarely any changes for a really solid Muni course.

Greens are at full nasty. Down grain to the ocean, the putt always rolls much more than you'd expect. Chipping is a nightmare here with the Kikuyu. I'm not sure if they aerated as I haven't been here in a month, but I guess not because the greens are great right now. Not as firm as recent years, so they do accept iron shots better than they have in recent summers.

Fairways and rough are amazing for a bargain public course.

Only negative is that the tees have been recently verticut. Still very playable, just not visually appealing.

As always, highest recommendation.

Played Muni on 4/3. Conditions continue to be very good here. Fairways are fantastic. Rough has filled in nicely with the rains.

The teeth of this course are the greens, and they are tough. Getting firmer, and fast. Lots of divot marks, but most of the players here do tend to fix the marks, so the greens do roll well.

Aeration is still 6 weeks away, so I expect the greens to get firmer and faster until then.

Lucky enough to be able to enjoy a spring morning on one of my favorite walking courses. Last review is right on the money, but I thought the greens were better than expected. Fairways are excellent. Staff as always was great and as this course remains one of the better value courses, I highly recommend it

Played Muni on 3/7/24. As always, the conditions are far above what you would expect for this price.

Greens are still being cut a bit too short. Although they are generally smooth, there is not a thick layer of grass, and you can see bare dirt under the blades. The result being, unrepaired or poorly repaired ball marks make things quite bouncy. Right now, they are still nice, but a level below the way they were 2-5 years ago.

Fairways are just amazing. Nothing better at three times the price.

Rough is fine. Sand traps are good. Tee boxes are pretty good, especially given the amount of traffic on some of the small boxes.

No notice of spring aeration schedule yet.

Highly recommended.

Took advantage of an invite to play San Clemente, which turned out to be confirmation of why it's great to live in Southern California. While much of the country is suffering cold/snow, got to enjoy a beautiful winter morning. Conditions were not quite up to the "norm" but this course drains well and there were no real issues as a result of the recent rain. Greens rolled nicely and had decent pace but were rather firm. Good coverage in the fairways. Did not find a single bunker, but they appeared to have decent sand.


Always enjoy playing this course. It is a great walking course and just provides a comfortable feeling with no real forced carries and few penalty areas to lose balls. Just what a public muni should be. Great staff and reasonably priced, particularly for Southern Califorrnia.

Excellent. Conditions are very good and the layout is great. The course is fairly forgiving but still challenging. You can't beat it for the price.

Only downside is the pace of play, which is as slow as most places these days. It's also hard to get a tee time here.

Showed up yesterday/Sunday, Nov 12 around 10am and put my name on the list. Sat in the bar and ordered a breakfast burrito and one of the guys in the proshop came to the bar to let me know I would be third up!! So stoked, didn't wait hardly at all!! $53 to walk on an absolute beautiful Sunday, not a cloud in the sky and hardly a breath of wind! Got paired with three other singles who did the same thing I did, just showed up and I guess there was a cancellation of an entire foursome.

Course is in good shape all around. And POP was phenomenal at 4hrs on the dot. We had very little waiting all day and the guys I played with were all fast players, three of us walked and one had a cart as he is fighting a knee issue.

Played the blue tees and they were all just fine. No problems at all. Fairly level and all had good coverage.

Fairways were good to very good!! Had great lies all day. I only missed one fairway on number 8 and found the first bunker on the right, up against the upslope so had to just hit a 9iron out of it. Bunkers were in good shape, I found a couple other greenside bunkers and they were just fine, a little wet and heavy sand, but no problems.

Rough didn't seem too penal and had good coverage.

Greens were good to very good. They held shots very well and were crazy fast!!! I don't recall these greens ever being this fast, please be aware and keep the ball under the hole. They had a couple little bumps occasionally and you had to play defense on these greens, that's for sure. Very challenging and they didn't have a lot of ball marks, people seemed to be doing a good job of taking care of their ball marks yesterday.

Customer service was great. Proshop guys were great and they had no problem coming into the bar to let me know when my name was called, there's no speaker in the bar area, so that was crucial. Beverage cart came around a few times, but I BYOB, so didn't use her services but she seemed nice and did a good job. Bar is no frills, but the bartender was super friendly. Highly recommend, it's a good workout to walk as it has quite a few hills. It's for sure the best value in OC, as well.
