Played San Clemente Muni 3 times over the week of the 4th of July. I had a great time. The surfaces were great. Rough was thick, but fair. The greens were superb, although a bit slow and in some cases, bumpy. The sand played great out of every bunker that I was in. It was a great value at $43 riding.

I found the staff to be very accommodating and helpful. I played each day as a walk up in the early morning, and they got me on within 20 minutes each time.

The course is a bit short to satisfy big hitters at 6435 yds from the tips, but it was a great challenge for my mid-cap game. The white tees are not much shorter, at 6066 yds, losing most of the yardage on a couple of long par 3s and the longest forced drive over a wash. It's fairly straightforward through #12 with some moderately off camber and up and downhill fairways and a couple of large wash crossings and fairway dips. It gets particularly interesting from hole 13 to 18 as it ventures up a canyon and over a ridge.

This muni appears to have a vibrant local patronage, and deservedly so. A lot of golfers choose to walk this course. It is a good layout for walking. I found the walkers to keep pace and more. I got around in a little over 4 hours each round I played.

The pro shop is one of the most well-stocked that I've ever seen. Lots of merchandise and an impressive rack of demo clubs on display.

Overall, a great municipal course that is a great value.

Played here today, Friday. If you have ever thought about playing San Clemente now is the time. The greens are fantastic. They are completely healed from their latest aeration. According to one of the greens keepers, they were double cut yesterday and cut and rolled today. The greens are not particularly fast, but they are very smooth, true and receptive. If the sun ever comes out and dries out these greens they will be quite fast. The fairways are lush. The tee-boxes are very good. The rough right now is pretty short. As usual there isn't much sand in the bunkers. If past experience is anything, you want to take advantage of these condition quickly, before the head grass cutter lets the course slip back into mediocrity. Next Friday is a public shotgun at 7:00 am, as there was today. I played in a twosome and played in 3 hours and 10 minutes. You might want to take advantage of it. Today and next Friday are two of the biggest charity tournaments of the year in the afternoon and the head grass cutter tries to get the course in shape for those 2 events.

Always enjoy this course -ocean views without breaking the bank. Interesting track, not too challenging but some nice elevation changes on the back nine. Played Saturday morning around 9:30 and got through in less than 5 hours. Greens can be challenging to read. Driving range mediocre - mats only, bring your own tee. Small putting area, bunker/chipping area not convenient to the clubhouse (at the back of the parking lot). Greens were very bumpy as they had been punched a week earlier. Beverage cart made the rounds a couple of times. The "new" clubhouse restaurant has great sandwiches and entrees - several meats smoked on premises with artisan bread from a local bakery. Fun outing!

Played Tues. 102511, please someone mow the tee boxes! I wasn't expecting flier lies from the teeing area, terrible shape, long grass, uneven with plenty of bare spots. Other than that same old course, decent fairways with slow bumpy greens. The round took 5 1/2 hours to complete, I was the first group out following the ladies day. Talk about a long wait between shots, it was as slow as it can get.

If you ever thought about playing at San Clemente now is the time. The course is in wonderful condition. The greens are smooth, the fairways lush there is sand in the bunkers and most of the bare spots have been patched. The Mens Club's Member - Guest and the City Championship were this past Friday - Sunday and the Chief Grass Cutter for San Clemente either put out some effort or went on vacation and left someone in charge who knows what they are doing because the course is in great condition. I played today and the only complaint was some of the tees were a little shaggy, but the mowers were on their way. Hurry before the course once again sinks into mediocrity.

Played Sunday at 9:30am as a walk on. Got out in 25 mins of waiting. We finished in 4.5 hours. Not bad for a sunday morn. The course is very lush and in darn good shape. Greens are little slow but in very good shape. Keep in mind everything breaks to the ocean here. SC has a great mix of holes, no 2 are the same. With ocean views on some. Always good service and a great place to get a $1 tap beer after the round.

Played 7/9/11. Tee boxes good, fairways and bunkers fine. Lots of trees. Greens terrible, pace of play terrible. Practice green bad. Back nine offers better views and better holes than front. $46 dollars to ride, $3 for a bucket of 32 balls. Foursome finished in 5 hours. Waited on every hole. Didn't see a marshall or snack cart. I will not be returning.
