Played today. Cool to start but warmed up nicely. Course is in nice shape at the moment. Fairways are mowed and nice and green. Good lies and great roll out. Tee boxes all clean/playable. Traps are all clean/playable. Rough outside fairways is 1/2 to 1 inch and not so nice (what rough is). Greens were all mowed and held shots, released shots and chipped/putted very nicely (speed was about 9/10). Great speedy check in and marshal was out making sure things moved along. Recommended. They have raised the price to $54 for everyone. As long as they use those funds to make improvements a $5 hike won't bother me too much, I don't think? Time will tell.

Played today on a nice day for golf. Course is in decent shape at the moment. Fairways have good coverage but we played early and were not able to avail of all mowed fairways (maybe 4 out of 14). Those that were had good lies and great roll out. No tee box issues (even on par 3's). Traps are sanded with new sand but not all of them. We found a few hard packed ones and some have small stones that need cleaning out. Rough outside of fairways and around greens was wet/sticky and could/did cause problems. Greens were in great shape. Held shots, released shots and chipped/putted with speed of around 10. I would like to see them get new carts (badly needed). No GPS in carts so bring your range finder or phone with app. Both are helpful if you have never played here. Restaurant open for food and snack bar is open at 6 AM.

Out today. Boy was it cold for the first 9 holes. Course in decent shape at the moment. No tee box issues. Fairways had good grass coverage and provided good lies and good roll on most of them during the round (back 9 as sun came out and warmed things even better). Traps were all clean and playable as we were third off. Greens held shots/chipped and putted with good speed (no complaints). This course needs some improvements. Really need new carts as the ones they currently have are old, lifeless and beat up. And they need a marshal early AM that has the guts to move people along. We had a 3 in front of us (who was 2nd off and lost touch with the first group) who easily added 30 minutes to our time and who knows how much to others behind us. When you play early and its cold the last thing you want is to wait around. And if you want to play early don't hold up the rest of the golfers for you own pleasure.

Played this AM. Found the course to be in satisfactory condition. Tee boxes were all clean and playable. Fairways provided good roll out, good lies and they (not all) have some thin areas trying to grow back in. Bunkers were all clean and playable, especially the ones with the new white sand. Rough was sticky/wet and not ideal when not hitting the fairways. Greens all chipped, putted well all round and held as well as released shots. Excellent customer service at all levels.

This was booked a few weeks ago, so unless it was raining we were playing. Got to the course and pleasantly suprised at the nice 48 F temp (no wind). And the weather got better and the sun was out on the back 9. While the course was CPO we were impressed with the condition given ALL the rain the past few days and one recent post. We had no issues with any tee boxes. The biggest concern was going from the cart to several of the fairways below cart path level as the hills were still damp and slippery (but no falls yea). Fairways were soft but we found no standing water on them. While we had good lies we did not receive much roll out. Yes several traps had water in them but the ones that have been filled with new white sand did not. But those who came before us (take a lesson in how to use a rake please) had not bothered to rake them, so they were not very playable. Greens were very nice all round and held shots (obviously) but chipped/putted very well. Excellent customer service in the pro shop and at cart pick up. Restaurant is open but we did not go in after the round. As I have said many times this is one of my favorite Robert Muir Graves designs and I hope it stays in business over time. If more rain was not in the picture, I could easily see the course being in nice playable conditions in the weeks ahead. So if interested just call ahead and get an update.

Ah, the joy, the frustration, the anxiety of looking for a reasonable morning tee time in SoCal these days. Was trying to set up a GK Cup match and scratched up a 1020 tee time on Wednesday, 12/15/21, at Westridge GC. Golfnow had me prepay and then my opponent had a medical issue, but I rustled up a high school buddy and we headed for the hills of La Habra. It had rained buckets the day before, but I was hopeful ………. OK, so gigantic withdrawal shock for course conditions after having enjoyed Ram’s Hill GC a few days earlier! Westrige is built on the side of a hill, but apparently doesn’t drain that well, and the course was completely “path-only” – not the best for my bum knee! The guy in the shop was nice enough to contact the course superintendent directly to get dispensation, but no dice! Meathead Dave decided to go ahead anyway and I’m paying the price on Thursday with a cold pack strapped on the knee! Plenty of up-and-down hiking to and from the ball, and even from cart path to some tees and greens. It had been ~20 years since I last played here, and the course reminds me of Coyote Hills or Bella Colina. For a course this age, I definitely expected better conditions – established drainage patterns, a solid turf base, etc. Greens were the best part of the course, with good coverage and rolling at medium+ speed. Speeds were consistent through the round. Greens were fairly firm and receptive to shots. Fairways were extremely disappointing, with thin or bare areas outpacing grassy lies. Hitting to the middle of the fairway more often than not resulted in a lie on wet sand with random sprigs of grass. Only occasionally were you treated to a lie on grass. The fairways also exhibited a lot of debris that apparently flowed out across the course after the rain. Hole #6 was especially bad. Fairways and rough closer to greens had better turf in most cases. Tees (we played the Blue tees [5,902/70.4/130]) were generally OK. A few of the traps had recently been refurbished with new white sand, but the majority had a brown sand. All were wet and hard-packed and none had been raked, with a few with standing water in them. We basically played “drop outside”. Carts were just basic – no cooler, club cleaner, USB, or GPS. No yardage book available. The course has red/white/blue yardage stakes and fairway plates, and some sprinkler heads are marked. Hole drawings on the tee monuments are badly faded and not very helpful for infrequent or new players. Cart paths are starting to need attention to save patrons’ teeth. Basic restrooms after #4 and #15. Most holes are built on a descending series of benches along the hillside, separated by natural areas generally marked as ESA. There is even some in-course OB between parallel holes, which is very unusual – I assume the objective is to discourage players from venturing onto other fairways searching for their ball. There are marked “Drop Areas” near these OB markers – I assume to allow players to drop and keep the pace moving. Again, unusual, and nothing that was noticed by the scorecard or starter. Staff was friendly all around and graciously agree to give us a shuttle lift back to the parking lot afterward, saving us about 40 vertical steps after the round. As noted before, the shop guy worked to get me a waiver on the cart restriction. We came across a staff member walking the greens and fixing pitch marks with a special tool. He says he does this 4 hr/day, 5 days a week. Eureka! Do other courses do this? He also said other employees are devoted to filling divots around the course. Now we’re getting somewhere! (I did notice that many divots around the course appeared to have been recently filled.) I’m hopeful that this type of staff work is common around SoCal, even though I think this is the first time I’ve ever seen anyone doing this! Given the state of conditions, I can’t recommend the course at this time.

Played this AM (cold but warmed up nicely). Glad to state that the course is in playable condition once again. I did not have any issues with tee boxes nor heard any complaints. Fairways had good coverage (few bad spots remain but I only saw them but did not hit any) and they rolled out great all round. Traps were all playable (with rakes though some do not know how to use them) and they are filling them in with new white/fluffy sand. Several holes on the front had it in them and the one I landed in played just great (looks great and will be a great addition). Greens were very good all round. Held shots, released shots, chipped/putted nicely and had decent speed (IMO about 8) and never heard any complaints. I have no problem recommending the course at this time. The only issue I have and I voiced it with Mike the starter. If you want to play early or you want to be 1st or 2nd off, then play like you know what the hell you are doing. Don't back up the course or get a later starting time. Mike will take your call from the course if you experience this and will send someone out. We certainly will return sooner vs later if these conditions persist. And I think $49 is a fair price for seniors for this course. Just noticed this - Aeration of the greens 10/18 - 10/31 (nine holes per week). Glad we played when we did.

Midday tee time at WGC place was very busy and well organized. Played the blue tees and quite a few were crowned with little grass to hit off of. Fairways and rough were thin with a lot of run to the ESA sides of fairways. Greens were bumpy and all had unfixed divots fixed four or five per hole and could have done more. Bunkers were very wet with compacted sand. Water hazard on 16,17 and 18 have little water in it and is really visually unappealing. POP was a little over four hours and never had to wait on a shot. Really like the layout of the course and hope conditions improve.

Played 7/15/2021, I had to literally move my ball on many holes to a decent spot in the fairways. It appears the front nine fairways, certain tees and greens have some sort of heat-related disease. It's too bad because the course was in much better shape just a few months ago. I definitely would rate it a 4.0. I like the course and will play it again because it is a good test of golf forcing a player to use a range of shots to score well.
