This course can lull you to sleep. It is not as easy as it appears. A water hazard can sneak up on you. There are several 3 putt possibility tough greens as well. As previously noted the fairways are a bit thin. It is hard to avoid this with all the cart traffic. Otherwise the course is in very good shape. Take advantage of the easier and shorter front 9. Holes 12 thru 15 are all solid par 4's. Definitely an amen corner stretch of holes. 14 has got to be in the top 10 of tough par 4's in the Coachella Valley. It is 465 yards, with water left of the green that wraps around the back and back right of green. The seniors I played with said that they liked this 18 over the Santa Rosa 18. I did not play that side because 9 holes are closed for new irrigation.

Played 4-28-17. Played in the afternoon. Pace was a bit slow as we were behind 2 2somes that were playing a bit slow. A lot of waiting at first then things cleared at the beginning of the back 9 but the last 3 holes were painfully slow. The course is a strange arrangement with 4 par 3's 3 par 5's and only 2 par 4's on the front 9. The back makes up for it with only 1 par 3 and a total par 37 on the back. On a normal day this could be a nice set up as the front is like a warm up to the back. Unfortunately the back 9 was our 28 thru 36 holes for the day so the back was brutal. The course is not as pleasant. Hard fairways make for tight lies everywhere so precision is required. Got to the point we preferred the rough since you would have some grass beneath the ball. Tee boxes and traps were in good shape so if you like firm hard fairways this is the place for you!

The course is in just about the exact same shape as the Santa Rosa, with everything above average. There was a 3-club wind most of the day which made things difficult, but still nice being on the course.

I'd recommend both of these Mountain Vista courses, with a slight preference to the Santa Rosa.

Had an 11:32 time as a GN hot deal for $27. As a single (with pre-paid reservation), I showed up really early in the hopes of getting off sooner. It worked as I was teeing off a few minutes after I got there around 10:20, grouped with a threesome). It was busy out there, but the pace moved along well and we finished in just over 4 hours. Knowing the course was set to close in a couple weeks, I expected dried out conditions. Everything was dry, but the playability was excellent. There's some green left in the fairways and tee boxes, and I encountered perfect lies everywhere. The rough was more or less dormant and brown, but great to hit from and not penal at all. The ball sits up like on a tee. The greens were dry, firm and fairly quick, but they rolled smooth and were receptive enough on approach shots, so no complaints there. I wasn't in any bunkers myself, but I did hear my playing partners gripe about them having no sand in the few they found. Though it didn't look super pretty, the playing conditions were still very good and the price was great. Solid course. Kind of felt like a tamer version of Shadow Hills South. Not too challenging, but definitely not as easy as it looks. Greens are well-protected and feature plenty of tricky undulation. Some very tough pin placements today, as well! The front nine is a little weird with four par-3s, three par-5s and only two relatively short par-4s. The back nine more than makes up for it by playing 800 yards longer than the front and more hazards in play. From what I could see of the Santa Rosa course, it looks to be in almost immaculate shape, so it will be looking and playing great when it comes out of its maintenance. I look forward to coming back and checking it out when it re-opens. Last note...know that the two courses have separate pro shops and neither are that prominently marked. If you are coming in from off the I-10 and Washington, you'll pass the Santa Rosa course first and then the San Gorgonio shop is a few blocks further down the road.

Very good and impressive condition throughout with a fun layout. If you can stand the heat, get in the kitchen. For $12 (ezlinks.com) @ 10:00 tee time, 3 of us 'burned' around in 3.5 hours. Santa Rosa course is being cored. San G is worth a look. Modest pro shop (get directions at entry gate) near putting green only. The range is at other course.
All tees in good shape/level and lush. Fairways running, good shape, green and modest length grass. Rough is all good; quite lush but easy to hit out of. Sand was good green-side; fairway bunkers thin sand with a few pebbles. Greens were good. Not too fast, quite grainy but true, and HUGE. Not holding all the shots but not marking much either;mostly smooth.
I enjoyed the layout for the first time, and will return during off season.
*BYO water. The stations are far between, and take advantage when you come across one.
Today there was no drinks cart either. Also, you DO NOT pass by pro shop on the turn, so bring some munchies. A cooler of ice is provided. No GPS carts.
