2/17 playing with my son Grant his best friend Rod and joined by David an actor who urrently plays a lawyer on SWAT and is best known for being Spocks replacement on an unreleased series of Star trek where he was the full Vulcan science officer--trekies look it up--he had stories to tell and kept us well entertained during our waits. Also was recovering from major ankle surgery so needed to use a walk through swing--good golfer who had also played with a few notables thru the years,
On to the course, if you like green you will love it here, expansive green from wall to wall. Fairways are lush and rough is cut down to about an inch. Most divots have been filled either the golfers are very attentive or the crew spends a lot of time and attention to detail. Tees are mostly level and have good cover. Bunkers have good sand but no rakes.
Greens are healthy rolling out medium fast and mostly smooth.
Layout provides ok variety but does not have a lot of character, mostly flat some water adjacent with only 1 hole where it was necessary to hit over water, I guess with this being a retirement community this 18 was designed with the senior in mind though the course does have some length.
Driving range was grass but well worn. Starter was very efficient and moved us up as the group scheduled was tardy. POP right at 4ish with some waiting especially on the back.
Used golf moose came out to about $75 per which is more than I usually go for but I used gift certificates which I had gotten for Xmas and my birthday.

Rode the Blacks (6720/72.1/127) early morning with GDR23 in 3H, 20M. Overcast, calm and in the 40's when we teed off, but sunny, breezy in the 60's when we finished. Course played long after the first rain of the season the day before. Lush and green throughout with snow capped mountains in the distance made for great scenery today. Over seeding much thicker than when I played here earlier in the month. Santa Rosa would be a challenging course to walk with many tees are a long way from the last green. Tees lush, level and nicely maintained with very few unfixed divots. Fairways lush and nice to play from. Rough thick/lush and in the 2.5" range. Penal when wet, not that bad once it dried out. Sand traps nicely maintained with thick, good quality dark sand. Large greens putted medium fast, smooth and are firm. Few ball marks, they rolled nice! Customer service is usually good from everyone here. No on course services due to COVID. Nice, all grass driving range. Basic carts do not have GPS or ports for electronics. Definitely recommended.

Rode the Blacks this morning 12/29/20 with my buddy Nickesquire. We teed off to a cold start at 43 degrees and our POP was 3 hrs 20 minutes being waved through by a foursome on hole 8.

COVID= no rakes in the bunkers, plastic inserts in the cup, masks worn in the pro-shop. They have a really nice all grass range that was on mats this morning and a nice chipping and putting green right by the clubhouse. Carts were nice but were not equipped with GPS. Really friendly starter.

Layout: Really fun dogleg holes. Nice big and undulating green complexes and just wall to wall lushness. The 6720 tees today played longer due to overnight rains and cold temps. Front nine has some scoring holes like 1,2,6,7. Teeth of the course is 8,10,11. Couple nice longer par 3's.

Conditions overall should come out to a 9/10.

Greens were in great shape. Holding shots nicely, Rolling firm and smooth. Got some great challenging pins today. I fixed very few ballmarks. Rating the greens a solid 9/10

Fairways were super lush. Perfect lies. Little damp from overnight rains. Rating the fairways a 9/10. They were so nice I hated compressing the ball and taking a divot and ruining the perfect presentation.

Rough was super lush, wetter and around 2/3 inches. On hole 5 I was in the left rough and lets say it was just thick juicy. Rough rating 9/10

I rarely rate tees higher than a 9 but these were a 9.5/10. Lush, level and striped.

Was in greenside bunkers on 3 and 12 and sand was in really good shape. Brownish and considering there were no rakes perfect lies. I did see maintenance around a lot so wondering if they are raking in between groups. Rating 8/10

If you want primo conditions come play both courses here. Super Underpar and Golfmoose deal up right now for these courses. Highly recommended.

Rode the Blacks (6720/72.1/127) mid day using Underpar as a single in 3H. Very few golfers out playing. CPO made it seem longer than 3H. Overcast, breezy and in the low 70's.

Course just came out of over seeding and is still probably 10 days from allowing carts on the fairways. Not in as good of condition as the sister San Gorgonio course, especially the greens.

Over seeded tees were lush, level and nicely maintained with very few unfixed divots.

Over seeded fairways were consistently lush and nice to play from.

Over seeded rough was thick/lush but mowed down, not overly penal.

Sand traps were nicely maintained with thick, good dark quality sand.

Large over seeded greens were firm and putted medium speed with few ball marks, but they had some thin areas where the over seeding hopefully will come through more.

Nice, all grass driving range is a +. Basic carts do not have GPS or ports for electronics. No on course services due to COVID. Santa Rosa would be a challenging course to walk, many tees are a long way from the last green. Good restaurant on site. Customer service is usually good from everyone here. Definitely recommended.

Second round mid day paired with Reed, Johnny and Steve, we played in 4H 15M in clear, breezy conditions around 70. The over seeded tees were lush, level and nicely maintained with very few unfixed divots. The over seeded fairways were lush and nice to play from. The over seeded rough was thick/lush. Just deep enough to rule out longer clubs. The sand traps were nicely maintained with thick, good dark quality sand. The large over seeded greens were firm and putted medium fast speed with few ball marks. Quick, efficient check-in, they got me paired up with a 3some playing in a tournament after round 1. Basic carts do not have GPS or ports for electronics. Plenty of water stations on the course. No drink cart today. Customer service has always been very good from everyone here. Definitely recommended.

It was a last-minute opportunity thanks to a canceled meeting after working for two days out in Palm Springs that I was able to meet up with Nickesquire and play the never before heard of Mountain Vista Country Club this past Friday. We played the Santa Rosa 18 along with mnielson and his wife Doris after they had all spent the morning playing the San Gorgonio 18.

Again, I had never heard of this course before and was anticipating something more akin to Indian Palms or Tahquitz Creek in terms of quality and conditions, but I could not have been more wrong. Mountain Vista was every bit as pristine and well-manicured as any of the top courses in the Palm Springs area currently following their pre-winter reseeding.

The course winds through a residential community from start to finish, but you rarely ever feel that tightness of the course due to that design. Fairways often feel incredibly generous, but don't be fooled into thinking this course is a pushover, because it's not. There are a lot of very tricky water features to manage and many of the greens have steep dropoffs around them to put a premium on well-struck approach shots. That being said, the tips here are not too long so playing from the black tees is not the challenge you would expect it to be.

Course conditions are really great from tee to green. Tee boxes in exquisite shape, fairways, as previously mentioned, in perfect condition - green, inviting and lush. Rough is very thick and lush but cut down to be extremely playable. Bunkers are not the white fluffy sand, but in good shape compared to other resorts. And the greens are great. Not too gimmicky, but definitely have to do a good job of reading them. Coverage is really nice, they're medium-fast to fast on most holes, and seemed to hold shots very well.

We had cart service come around as well and there are plenty of water and restroom stations along the routing to keep you happy. The course is generally flat but you've got a few treks between holes. It'll keep you engaged, though. Really nice experience and definitely a course I would like to come back to again in the future. You may not have heard of it, but it will hold its own with plenty of the region's best in its current shape.

Doris, Nick and I played both Mountain Vista courses yesterday. I can honestly say these were two of the nicest courses we’ve played all year. With underpar two for one deal and 18 hole free replay it was also the best deal. We virtually had the courses to ourselves and the pace of play was what we chose. Doris played the white tees, I played the blues and Nick played black. Worked great as our respective drives ended fairly close. Doris planned to only play 18 but enjoyed the first 18 so much she played 36 holes. What a great day!

Played the Santa Rosa course at Mountain Vista on 11/11. Nice, easy course. Everything was in great shape. The greens were a tad slow, but that is expected this time of year. I will definitely be back for more rounds. I look forward to playing the sister course as well. Seems to be one of the better deals in the desert this time of year.
