Play Eagle Glen Sat 25-Jan @ 0810 and wasn't sure what to expect based on the last review.. My experience was very different. On the 3rd hole we got backed up. The ranger was all over the group on the 5th hole holding up the course. He made them skip the 6th and we finished in four hours flat. There were some bare spots but mostly VERY enjoyable. The brush has been cut WAY back. A lot of environmental stakes to keep the course moving. The course is actually in good condition and easily worth the fee. The cart girls were amazing! REALLY hard to concentrate on your game with smoking hotness selling you a Gatorade. 19th hole was outstanding and food excellent (try the steak salad). I will be back next month!!

Booked tee time for 1/18/14 at 11:20. Arrived at course at 10:30, asked pro shop guy how it was looking, and he replied: busy. I then asked, "are you backed up at all?" and he responded "no, were not behind." I then hit balls, and pull up to starter at 11, and he says, "come back in 30-40 minutes, we are way behind." We dont end up teeing off until 12:10 (50 minutes late!!). I told the starter that one in our group had a time constraint and wouldnt be able to finish 18 because of the delay and politely asked if there was a 9-hole rate or a credit that could be considered and he rejected it almost laughingly (Gerry). We ended up slogging it out and the guy in my group had to leave early (with his ride) leaving me on my own to (barely) finish in the dark at 5:15ish. Thats a 6-hour round! (counting booked time). Ridiculous. We waited..on....every...shot!!! The course will probably say there were "course marshals" driving around, but they werent doing anything, except driving up to us and asking if "we were okay", which made us believe they were just off duty cartgirls, because thats what cart girls say! We didnt even know how to respond to that. Are we okay? not really, we're getting a sunburn standing out here waiting for this group. That leads me to the group ahead: a 7-year old kid, and 3 tattooed Corona thugs hacking up the course hitting MULTIPLE balls each. I followed the instructions on the gps screen and pressed the "player assistance" button to speak with a marshall, but low and behold, nothing happened, probably because they were busy driving around doing nothing. BRUTAL. The course layout and design was a nice change, but the fairways were just dead and hard, but painted of course, to attempt to fool people into thinking it was in good shape (with no disclaimer of the painting). The greens were in pretty good shape, but the teeboxes were decent at best. All in all, a brutal round. What could be a decent course in the right conditions (not now) was totally ruined by the overbooking, greed, and lack of customer service (and deception by the pro shop).

Course is coming along fine, they are really thinning out the brush and trees and giving it a more wide open look. Fairways are very tight and balls roll a bunch, basically the rough and fairways are one together. Bunkers had sand in them (the ones I were in) pace was 3 1/2 hours which made it nice. Will be heading back later this month. P.S. as there is basically no rough be careful as I had 2 shots go right to left across the green and into the gully and one water hazard. Greens running about 11 and fairways about 12.

Played eagle glen this past Monday (1/6). Tee boxes were very nice, over-seeded and mostly lush and flat. Fairways were awful, they are not coming out of dormancy they are spray painted green, hard as a rock. Rough is hard and brown. Greens are inconsistent on speed but rolling fairly smooth. The green on the first hole and second seemed to have just been watered while other greens had not, threw me off for most of the day on speed and spin. I was in 3 sand traps, one had great sand while the other 2 were not good. Pace of play wasn't bad, around 4 hours. I probably wouldn't recommend playing here right now because of the poor condition of the fairways, but I do enjoy the layout and views so it's a toss up.

Played Sunday. Surprisingly, the fairways appear to be coming out of dormancy, likely because of the warmer weather. The result is the course is framed for the eye a bit differently as the dormant rough now borders each hole more clearly - and, they've been allowing it to encroach making for visually narrower targets for the eye. That said the fairways are still a bit thin and compacted in spots.

Clearing of native areas appears to have continued too. If you haven't been here recently it will likely look quite a bit different.

Tees and sand both good. Greens were firm but inconsistent on the speed and with quite a few bobbles. Pace was the usual slow front nine opening up somewhat on the back.

FYI while it was super windy in the rest of the IE Sunday, Eagle tends to get sheltered from Santa Ana's so if you are looking for somewhere to escape the wind then keep this in mind.

I would not disagree with the previous two reviewers but I will add that all they said can be summed up as 'winter conditions'. In the course's defense, I will testify that it is generally very dry out there - but there is little they can do now to soften it up unless mother nature does her part as they risk having a rock-hard course should they put a lot of water on it and get any more frosts like they are prone to in inland areas. In fact, I would say they have actually put more water on it over the course of the year than they have for quite some time in my recollection. It's a drought.

Also, 'tis true the greens are nowhere near a 12 but are medium speed for the most part. I would add that the rough is actually tangly, dormant bermuda around the greens so play it like a bunker shot from those thicker lies as it is not what your typical golfer might be used to.

One interesting thing to note (which carries on work begun last year) is the continued clearing of the riparian areas so that most have just some select vegetation left in them (it's academic as you shouldn't be playing out of them anyway). But it does give a different feel cosmetically to some holes, notably the right of 12 fairway all the way to the hole and the right of 13 playing back the other way. Not sure how I feel about it as I am used to waste areas looking straggly and, well, wasted. But it certainly is a new look for those that play here a lot.

Bottom line, we all need some rain in these parts.

This one will be tough for me. I've always liked this course because I love the layout and the scenery. I played here numerous times back in the Troon days, so the memories are pretty positive even though it was too overpriced back then. But today was not a good experience and it was a real bummer. I booked an 11:00 tee time as a single through EZLinks. The price was $47 for the time, but I used up a Groupon deal I had, so it was only $25 for me total. I'm glad that's all I paid. They were overbooked and backed up because of a tournament group out on the course, so it was around 11:35 when our group finally teed off. The starter was pretty unapologetic and laid-back about it. He told me how once the tournament group cleared off, it would open up for everyone on the back nine. The same guy came around several times in the marshal cart and kept saying the same things (and also talking about how good a shape the course was in), so it irked me because I knew it wouldn't improve much for us being at the back of the pack. We finished with just enough daylight at 4:50. So the on-course pace was a terrible 5:15, but in my mind the delay at tee off counts, too, so that made it almost 6 hours total. Unacceptable even for a muni course, but even more disappointing on a course that still pretends to be something special. As for conditions, I understand it's winter and it's clear they didn't overseed. It wasn't pretty, but reasonably playable. The fairways and rough are very tight, semi-dormant bermuda. The turf was a little inconsistent, though. Some spots were decently fluffy underneath and other areas were hard as a rock, so you definitely had to pay attention before hitting the ball. The tee boxes had the best, greenest grass on the course, so those were mostly quite good. Bunkers pretty thin, but manageable. The greens were decent and softer today than the last reviewer described. They were receptive for us on approaches and fairly true on putts. The starter said they were rolling at at 12+, but there's no way. They were fairly quick (especially downhill), but not that quick. I still enjoy the layout and know the conditions can fluctuate greatly throughout the year here. But the way it looked and played today (along with the terrible pace and service), Eagle Glen felt like a shell of its former self. I hate to see it this way. It's definitely way overpriced for what it is right now. I've been getting emails from them advertising a special $69 rate in December after 10am on weekends, which is laughably expensive. I'm glad I got it for cheap today or I REALLY would have been disappointed. I hope it comes back around to be a great course once again, but I will avoid until I hear much, much better things.

My home course but it is in need of some TLC around the edges. Fairways are extremely tight and the rough is non-existent. Your drives just keep on going and roll off the fairway and into the ravines or into the water. The greens are like cart paths. My buds had 2 approach shots hit on the front and take a bounce over the green, not a roll but an actual bounce.

Got out to EG Sunday mid-morning with some buds using the email special ($49 + a sleeve of Pro-V's). Found the course in very good condition overall with very speedy greens and tight lies, no rough to speak of. The recent rain soften the greens so they held a high approach shots but the bump and runs were quite a challenge. Plus, many putts rolled well past the cup. Love that stuff. Downhill putts/chips were an adventure. Some soggy areas to navigate but well worth the drive. Good deals available on their website, too. Got around in a bit under 5 hours, we were in relax mode and were not chased. Oh, and bunkers: watch out for rocks, BIG rocks. Still recommended.
