Went out this morning and conditions have changed quite a bit since my last review. Greens were definitely slower, 2 or 3 of the greens looked like they were going to lose them, rough back to 3-5 inch height so it took a while to find it in the rough and the bunkers were basically raked dirt.

Played early Wednesday (6/15) and course in real good shape, greens were smooth and quick and ball would set up real nice in the fairway. Had a nice surprise as they were mowing the rough to about 1 inch and therefore, no lost balls. Anyone that plays here knows it is very hard sometimes to locate your ball in the rough but this day, no problem.

Play this course 6-13 afternoon. Last time I played here the course had two 18 hole courses. Really like the layout of the course with different type of tee shots that are needed to score well. Greens were surprisingly in good shape and had some speed on the downhill putts. I would think wind is a big factor here being close to the freeway. Pace of play was 3 and half hours with a fivesome letting me pass but got behind two slow seniors. Really enjoyed the day of golf and will play this course more often due to many cheap tee times online

It had been a while since I last played here, so being reasonably close (Using the toll road) decided to go for it. I sure do miss having two courses! The "new" layout, a combination of the Orange/Riverside courses is OK, but there are a number of holes which needed to be sacrificed to make this new course, and I miss those holes!

Course is in decent condition, about typical for here. The greens rolled better than they looked, and the areas around the greens were well maintained. Some rough areas need some TLC, but for the most part, the course is very acceptable for what is charged. Staff in the shop is always accommodating.

My biggest complaint is there are a couple long walks between holes, which aren't difficult, they just take time, and when you're trying to maintain a gap between yourself and golfers in carts behind you, it makes it a little tougher. Plus the walk from 18 back to the car is not all that much fun. I enjoy playing these old traditional type courses, so I guess I should be grateful that they left 18 holes.

After driving to El Prado to find a tournament on the courses, I had to locate another place to play. Recalling that there have been some recent, decent reviews for Green River, I decided to give them a call. Shop attendant told me the course wasn't very busy, and that as a single it would be easy to accommodate me. It had been many years since my last visit; back when this facility featured two 18 hole courses, the Orange Course and the Riverside Course. Since my youth, I had played this facility many times, and I knew that the course would play windy, so I was prepared for that. I spent some time rolling putts on the enormous putting green, which was representative of greens on the course. While I didn't use the range, it appeared to be all grass, but going into the afternoon wind. Check in, without a reservation, was courteous and friendly. Though I announced my intention to walk, the nice young woman in the pro shop informed me that it would cost just $5 more to ride - I paid $20 to walk. Another single, who rode a cart, was paired with me. We teed off at 12 noon behind a slow twosome. With no idea of the routing of the holes combined from the two old courses that I knew, I elected to play the blue tees (6634 yards/71.6 course rating/123 slope); the course offers four sets of tees. It was May gray all day in the canyon, and of course the winds blew, as they always do - sometimes 2 clubs into the wind. Comfortable walking weather, in shorts and short sleeves. Luckily, the slow twosome quit after the 4th hole, then it was wide open until hole 15. POP fine at 4 hours 5 minutes. No drink cart, but a snack shack, at the turn, sort of. I must say that I'm not, at least after just one round, impressed with the routing of the course, but I'll give it another go. Having two long par-3 holes in the first four can definitely create bottlenecks. More yardage markers would be a plus - on some holes, there are poles to indicate 200 and 150 yard distances in center of fairway, and there were red 100 yard marks, but these were not apparent on all holes. I could have used a phone-based yardage app, but elected to walk off yardages, or just guesstimate. The course is very walkable, without too much elevation change on the first twelve holes, all of which are on the old Riverside Course. However, over the final six holes, all of which are the remnants of the old Orange Course, you will find some elevation changes on holes near the clubhouse. And there are some lengthy walks from green to next tee. Conditions were generally pretty good, probably better than I experienced due to all of my time spent hitting out of the rough and trees. This is a course where you need to find the fairway, and avoid the many mature trees that line the fairways, some blocking fairway approaches on dogleg holes. Tee boxes were generally lush and well-covered, with limited divot damage. However, many tee boxes had uneven ground. Rough was variable, in some places lush and fluffy, or clumpy, in other places thin, and in other places there was bare dirt. Fortunately, leaf litter was minimal, so the rough was "clean" such that all of my errant shots into the rough were found. It was possible to advance long irons for distance from the rough. Bunkers were in good shape, with maintained sand that was on the thin side - I was able to execute shallow blasts from the 2 bunkers that I played from. Bunker margins were well defined. I didn't like how rakes were placed in the bunkers; better if they are left around the margins. Fairways were lush, freshly mowed, with very little divot damage - a highlight of the day. Balls sat up, making for crisp iron contact. Greens were mostly good, with some exceptions. Aprons and collars were mowed close, allowing for easy chipping or putting. Surfaces were generally firm, but accepted and held well hit shots. Putts rolled true on the mostly smooth surfaces, at medium to medium-fast speeds. There were unrepaired ballmarks on most greens, but they were mostly shallow. Several greens had accumulations of sand near outside edges, presumably from most recent aeration(?) This course is worthy of consideration, but know that the wind always blows here. This is no frills golf, in a scenic setting.

Played the Blues (71.6/123/6634) midday in 4H,15M as a 3some with Jim & Brian, excellent guys to play with. Played on their week of B-Day special, $14 cart fee, free green fee. Thanks Green River! The weather was partly cloudy, breezy and around 80. I like this layout that has five par 5's and five par 3's and a good variety of holes. Very playable for players of all skill levels, not that many forced carries and the fairways are ample wide. The tees were mediocre. A few were lush and good to very good. However, many were only fair with lots of recent divot repair work. The fairways were good overall, decent coverage. The kikuyu rough was not overly tall but was penal. Fairly lush with good coverage. The sand was fine grain and the traps were mostly nicely maintained. The smaller sized greens held approach shots well and were consistent from green to green. Medium speed, mostly smooth, occasionally bumpy. No cart person out today, but the snack shop on the turn was open. Polish Dawg & large soda for $7 was decent. The customer service in the Pro Shop was very good, processed my B-Day coupon and had me on the 1st tee in maybe 5 minutes. Nicely stocked pro shop. If I lived in the area, this course would be apart of my regular rotation. No holes that made make me go wow!, but no bad holes either. 10 & 16, both playing into the wind were long/tough holes. Finishing with back to back par 5's provides scoring opportunities late in the round. Fun course, Recommended.

It was one of those last minute decision deal. Rates are much higher and more crowded in and around OC; so we decided to go outside of OC, and the closest course was Green River indeed...
Called in booking while we were stuck on the 91 fwy traffic, and was told it was OK to just come in. Arrived at about 250p, booked as super twitelight special, got carts, on the 1st tee and ready to go by 300pm. Awesome!
Everything was great ... except for "wind"??? we were caught by surprises with all of the high winds on the the course, whereas it was nice and calm in OC, and while driving here. Well, who cares ? we thought, if we can play in this condition, we can play anywhere.
Course was in excellent condition, the best that I have seen, tee boxes were nice and flat, fairways were fresh and green, roughs were nicely trimmed and soft, greens were nice and smooth, bunkers are clean and may need a bit more sands in some. Overall, the course condition was a B+ in my opinion.
POP was better than awesome, no one were in front or behind us, POP was in less than 3 hours. Wind did died out when we reached the back nine, and remained calm to the rest of the way.
GR will definitely be on my come back list, and also one of my favorite course outside of OC, and may even be my most favorite thus far. Great place

Due to circumstances, this is a week late but supplemental to robertkplan's review of the course when we had our GK match round on 4/13. His report was accurate and pretty complete, so I just wanted to add a couple of comments. The greens were just about healed from aeration at that time and with the extra week, there should be no indication of aeration at all by now. There are some occasional quirks in the layout as well as rough patches, such as the surrounds of the par-3 8th green complex, but it is overall in solid condition. I played it for the first time at a GK outing some time back, and then chose it to play both my GK matches. I think it is generally an open and fair course with some tighter challenges mixed in. The nearby freeway notwithstanding, the undeveloped feel of the area and the overlooking mountains and hills, give it more of a remote vibe than one would think from the location. Service is friendly and the price is very reasonable for the quality of the course. The GK coupon for two makes it a very good deal, especially for a weekend round. One can hope they extend it beyond its current expiration at the end of April.
