When I think of this course prior to playing, I feel that I can get a good score, but I always end up with more strokes. Yap I admit that this course is not easy course. The course is decent condition in this season except for bunkers. The bunkers have no sand. Avoid the sand traps when you play. A lot of trees and bushes at the side of fairways have been removed and cleaned out. This makes the course a little bit easy and comfort.

Played HV 10/28. They have a promotion, donate a set of golf clubs get a free round, just so happens, I had two sets I wanted to donate and I ended up with a couple of free rounds and my clubs went to a good cause, good going guys.
HV is in great condition with the exception of the greens, I found them to be slightly bumpy with some dead spots, probably from fungus, but still rated them in good condition.
I have been critical of HV before, that the layout is a bit quirky for me, but the real problem is that I don't play the course often, enough to know where the problems are. Particularly on the back, I know there are a couple of ravines that come into play and with playing into the teeth of the wind, our much harder to get over than they look. I took to little club off the T on the first, and to much on the second. Your enjoyment of this course is going to depend on the knowledge of the course, I strongly recommend reading tips posted below.
My wife and I were unloading the cart, when she asked me if I wanted to keep this booklet. It was a yardage booklet! ERR! Yeah Honey, I could have used that earlier.

Course facilities: Driving range is not a typical flat land area, you are hitting into a hillside (think Carlsbad Golf Center). Nice big putting green next to the first tee and a chipping area next to the first tee. Pro shop is small but clean. The restaurant and bar are pretty big with a nice view of a part of the course and the mountains. The view is tremendous, you are playing in the mountains (or hills).

Course conditions: Not too shabby considering the amount of play that this course must get because of the reasonable prices. When we played, the tee boxes, fairways and greens looked lush and well manicured. The sand in the bunkers was soft and fluffy, not super fine sand but no wedge nicking chunks either. The greens didn't seem super fast, but because of all of the undulations and considering all of the hills and elevation changes the ball really gets moving if you don't have the right speed.

First off I really appreciated that they allowed our five some out on the course. I had 4 buddies from Chicago in town and we wanted to play as a group and didn't think there was a chance but they accomodated us, although the three some behind us were not happy. We were keeping pace but as a courtesy offered the group behind us to jump ahead, but the group ahead of us were a little on the slow side so no harm no foul.

This course is all about the views and the elevation changes. A majority of the holes you are driving down hill or up hill. This course can be tough if you are not placing your shots in the right areas. There is a good amount of OB with blind shots that will test your depth perception and ball tracking abilities. That is one thing about this course that always seems to mess with me; because of all of the hills and blind shots, it really screws up my depth perception so it sometimes becomes difficult to locate your ball if you are off the fairway. Be prepared to lose at least a sleeve, maybe even two.

I do enjoy the course because it is well maintained and it has a lot of character but in my opinion it is a little gimmicky at times and what I mean is that there is too much of what makes this course unique. I chose this place for my Chicago buddies because it is the type of course that they would never see back home. The views are awe inspiring and I wouldn't hesitate to play the course again but I need to work on my accuracy and shot shaping before I play here next time.

I broke all speed records to get home and get this review posted. This golf course is in outstanding condition considering the recent weather. I had a 0648 tee time but was able to get out earlier. Played by myself and finished in 2.75 hrs.

I swore the last time I played here it would be my last. Our cart broke down and it took 50 minutes to get another one.

Anyway all is forgiven. The Tee's, Fairways and Greens are in tournament condition. I was amazed at how great the course looked. I have played this course at least a couple of times a year since its opening and this is the best I have seen it. Paid $52 which I think is more than fair.

I played the Blue Tees and there's not a lot of roll off the tee but there is some. The greens are so receptive that you can throw the ball at the hole and it will check up. The greens are virtually free of ball marks which is unusual for a muni. I fixed a few from the guy's in front of me. Fixing your ball marks is just good manners and those that don't.....well, a topic for another time.

I had some trouble reading short putts more than longer ...not as fast as say Valencia CC but don't be above the hole as I was several times. The rough is 2-3 inches and demands a good smite to get it out but you hit a bad shot to be there.

The views of the Inland Empire from some of the tees and greens is breathtaking and I mean that literally as the layer of smog was very pronounced but when it's clear the views are spectacular.

The 8th hole is a gorgeous Par 3 with an elevated tee, water in front and the green is framed by cattails. Very picturesque..

The 18th holes is a good finishing hole @ 424 with a good chance for birdie. Elevated tee to a very generous landing area leaving you a mid to long iron or hybrid to a very large green that slopes from back to front.

The course plays 6292 from the Blues with a 70.8 and 132 slope. Not too long but lots of up hill shots. And having played the course before is a plus.


The starter was very friendly and when I asked what kind of shape the course was he said "you tell me". The cart guy as well as the grounds crew were very friendly. There is a restaurant on site.

If you haven't played this course before put it on your list! Very challenging and fun.

Met a few friends at Hidden Valley for a 12:50 tee time today. $50 w/ golf now deal. Pace of play was about 4:45 and that sat a little long for me considering the course plays 6300 from the Blue Tees. For some reason there was a twosome out before us that was playing between two foursomes. I just don't understand that, especially on a weekend before 2pm. I know golf courses aren't refusing anyone's money these days but all it does is slow people down. No way the round at that place should have taken longer than 4:15.

Regardless, I had never played it before. It's a FUNKY place. If you go, try to play it with someone that has before. Knowing which lines to take off the tee is a huge element of that course. The greens also break quite a bit more than they appear and the putting green was 0 indication of how the actual greens putt. I feel like being a regular here would be a major advantage.

CONDITIONS
Tees: 7/10 (always able to find a flat place)
Fairways 6/10 (a few burnt areas but always playable)
Rough 8/10 (very lush - unfortunately - if you find it)
Sand 6/10 (a little think in places but always playable)
Greens 7/10 (a few pitchmarks but putted smooth)

FOR THE MONEY
5/10 - I can find these conditions closer to home in LA and POP will be roughly the same. But I did enjoy some of the holes. The Par 3's are all downhill and with a consistent 15 MPH wind that you'll always get in these kind of places it makes club selection tough. Flustered me a bit.

Played Monday Memorial day morning. Overall, the condition is very good. Especially fairways and greens. Also I was very glad to see all sprinkler heads were marked with yardage. The starter guy (who was very friendly) told me that they installed sprinkler head markers and yardage stakes earlier this year. Only bad part was the sands in Holes #1 and 2, which were very thin. Pace of play was little less than five hours. Course was not busy but we were stuck behind a slow foursome. Overall, good experience.

The first time I played Hidden Valley, I HATED it. I told my buddy I would never go back. Honestly, I never wanted to go back because it can be an almost brutal test of shot placement and putting. Thankfully, I reneged, and have gone back several times since, and absolutely love it. After a lot of range time, that is. I last played there April 8th. You may recall it was brutally windy. Brutally. Don't waste your money on their range, and their pro shop is comically stocked, but the service is always excellent. Take some time on their putting and chipping green. Pace is everything out here! The tee boxes aren't all that level, but I know they're working on it. Pick your tee wisely, even if you have to be a few yards further back than you would like. Too often, playing out here, (as with most courses) the golfers around me are always on the wrong tee box. The black tees are scenic and make you feel pretty masculine, but you'd better have a big game under your britches to back it up. I always play them, and often regret it as soon as the first hole. I hate seeing fellows have such a miserable time on such a solid course. You really have to place fantastic approach shots to give yourself even a chance of 1 or 2 putting. Bunkers. What can I say? They've definitely turned south. I don't like complaining about things like this, especially as I know the maintenance there knows they need to be fixed. A lot. This is just a friendly warning. It's a huge undertaking, cut them a little slack and take a drop. I should have when I found the back left bunker on the 4th hole, picked out all the visible rocks around my ball, hit a well struck thump near the hole... to find out a hidden rock took a little gouge off the face of my new lob wedge (a cast Ping, so it's still very playable) and peeled the cover off a brand new Callaway Hex Black Tour ball. It must have been one hell of a rock I hit. I steered away from the bunkers the rest of the day (usually a smart plan in any situation) but would definitely have taken a drop if that plan didn't work out. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water just yet...The greens are ALWAYS AMAZING. They roll so true, play with a lot of slope (God help you if you land on the wrong tier on some of these holes), so respect the break. They always have some sort of good online deals, pace of play is generally very good, and there are some awe inspiring views from tee to green. Bring a rangefinder if you have one and hit 'em straight!

Firstly I would like to thank our members and repeat customers for their continued support. It's all of you that make this golf course feel like a golf club.
It's been just over a year since the land owners took control of Hidden Valley. They asked me at that time to continue what we have been doing at the property for one year; then we would come together to see what direction to take the course (or where we need to focus our resources). The two things that need the most attentionare certain tee tops that need leveling and the bunkers. Now I know some of the tees are uneven but you can always more the tee marker around and find a flat(ish) spot. The bunker not so much they are just bad.. So the decision was made to start with the green side bunkers moving backwards around the course. As of today 18 - 9 have been completed and over the next few weeks we are hoping to complete all the way to number one. This is no easy task to complete in-house and maintain the course at the same time, so we appreciate your understanding at this time.
Over the winter months we made the course more playable by cleaning out the in-play creeks. We also marked the course with 150 poles and all the sprinklers now have yardage on them. Course maintenance / improvements are always on-going but I feel we are moving in a great direction for the future. So if you haven't played Hidden Valley lately please come out and see us.
