From right when I pulled in somebody came out to get my clubs and place them on a cart (I was an hour early so they had a cart waiting for me for an hour) The customer service was fantastic. EVERYONE is so very nice. From the very first tee box, you could tell the course was going to be in good condition. Here is the breakdown... If youre long off the tee, you better be straight, I only hit driver off the tee maybe half the time. The fairways were beautiful and well taked care of. When the wind picked up shots got a little more difficult (as usual) but it made club selection tough due to the elevation changes and the fact that due to the topography, the wind swirled in some spots. Not knowing the lay of the land made it extra difficult. Ok, now here is the part I feel bad about saying because I did have a great time. The SAND TRAPS are some of the worst I've ever played. There is NO sand in them. For a fairway bunker this is no big deal but for a greenside bunker, this is the worst. You cannot get the ball up and out softly. This would not be an issue however, there are A LOT of traps. Recommendation for you players...Play the greesides like a tight lie flop shot. I live in San Diego...I drove 1 hour and 43 minutes, just one way, to play this course. Would I do it again? Without question, yes.

Oak Quarry is a Chuck Norris of a golf course... somewhat unassuming, let you play around, take it easy and then WHAM roundhouse kick to the face! Or in this case your ego and mental game. Front 9 fairly easy, many par-able holes, then after the signature hole get ready for some ass kicking time. Don't get greedy or aggressive, play it smart and you'll be rewarded, otherwise enjoy spending time in the rough, or searching for your OB balls.

I think the greens were aerated last month, still somewhat off and sandy. The tee boxes were great and the fairways were nice. We finished around 4:30 so overall a good ass kicking time. I'll be nursing my ego at willowick and the likes for a while before I come back to this course again.

Played today 3-10. Due to the aerated greens, the ratings of this course is low. They aerated two weeks ago, so greens have decent amount of sand on them. They probably have more sand on the greens then the actually bunkers.LOL.(I always see people complaining about the lack of sand in the bunkers)Just make a steep swing inside the bunker and the ball comes out easily with alot of spin. Overall, the course is a great place to play with alot of signature holes. Just wait a couple of weeks for the greens to heal.

Played on monday 02/21/11, tees, fairways & greens are as near perfect as it gets, this time of year. The bunkers are another story. I know it had rained saturday, but the traps have had no sand for a long time, like playing from hard pan. Over all a great day at a great course. This place Rocks.

What a great golfing experience!
Certainly one of the most picturesque golf courses I have ever played on around the world.
The short par 4 4th and signature par 3 14th are two highlights and two of the best looking golf holes I've ever played.
The greens however are tough. Even for an experienced golfer such as myself, I found the break difficult to read and the speed hard to gauge. I was told that everything breaks towards the huge canyon to one side of the course. I couldn't bring myself to allow for that considering the slope of the greens. I therefore ended up with about 3 or 4 three-putts during my round which hurt my score a bit. Watch the speed and try to keep the ball below the hole! Some of my putts were also a bit bumpy but that's my only drama with this magnificent golf course.
I'll be back for sure.
Even from the black tees, this is not an overly long course (helped in part by dramatic elevation changes) but accuracy is essential with a lot of balls potentially lost. If your driver is off, you'd better have a solid two iron or hybrid to get it out there 200 yards, otherwise it could be a tough day.
I was striking it extremely well and still barely broke 80. Local knowledge required on many holes.
Worth the drive from LA, ten-fold!

Overall, course is in very nice shape. Played from the tips so the tees were very lush; fairways were generally lovely as was the rough - just the occasional barer area or un-repaired divots. Rough was lush and got your attention but not too penal. Fringes and swales around the greens were truly immaculate. Sand was iffy as other reviewers have stated. Thin, hard-packed and gravelly, it makes it difficult to play from as some of the traps are very deep so you need to get the club well under the ball to get it elevated.

As for the greens....they were kind of funky. At least 4 different types of growth on them ranging from dark green, light green, something sprouting yellowish buds and a fair amount of downright crusty areas that were very dry. Net result, the ball didn't track too well and speed was inconsistent. Curious, overall.

The course offers lots of options off the tee which I like - also good shot values on the approach. With the greens you have to be on the right quadrant to have a legitimate chance.

Got a special on golfnow for 39 which you can't beat.
