Thanks JohnnyGK and Oak Quarry's Hank Schiller for a great time at "The Rock." As always, customer service is tops here. From the minute you arrive into the lot, someone is driving out to pick you and your clubs up and set you up in a cart. The course is looking and playing great right now. Wonderful elevation changes and great scenery. The layout is challenging but fair. The greens are lush right now and can be deceptively fast. From tee to green, it is hard to find fault with anything on the course, except for maybe some of the fairway bunkers. There could be a little more sand in many of them, and small rocks can be an issue if you are a bit unlucky. However, the lush conditions and majestic scenery far outweigh any negatives here. I love this course, and if I lived closer I would play here often.

Thanks to Johnny GK, I got to play Oak Quarry this morning with a small GK group. Since I played here recently and did a long review, here's my update. Generally excellent from service to the condition of the course. Last time I had a big issue with the driving range and this morning it was fine. The greens may have been a touch slower today, but not by much -- still pretty quick and rolled nicely. Observed some wet/water in some bunkers, but not in the two I hit and overall they seemed good -- firmer bunkers is the norm here. The only real glitch was that the range finder on the carts seemed to be calibrated to different pin positions than the actual positions. Once we figured that out, we kind of worked around it. I started referring to sprinkler numbers and yardage markers and pacing off my distances, which I actually prefer to do anyway. Otherwise, a must-play course and excellent company. A really nice day out.

Played with johnny and some of the gk crew at oak quarry this morning..course is in prime shape as i was loving how lush and green the fairways and greens were .Greens were rolling nice and at a medium fast pace.. not super fast but knowing where the putt breaks was hard enough to figure out.Weather was perfect staff was friendly especially Mr Sarge. (don't know his real name..very nice man) at the first tee box...
By far my best experience at oak quarry...

Dec. 2nd. temp. mid 70s lite winds 1-2mph. Golf course is in perfect shape. Customer service was top notch (always is), weekday rates are $65 (I found an internet discount and played for $50). Every tee box is flat. Fairways are plush. Greens are firm, and challenging. this is my favorite place to play, never a disappointment weather I shoot 98 or 78, every hole is beautiful. Bring a camera.

I apologize for the late posting..Been out of town. Played on Monday Nov.15th just past NOON tee time. Chuck the starter was very friendly without being over the top! Explained everything since it had been a year since we last played here.

Grabbed a deal online using www.GolfHub.com Originally we went out as a twosome but before long hole #6 we paired up with another twosome. From that point, it was going to be very close to finish 18 holes before dark! Very slow pace of play. There were groups waiting on every hole and approach shots. The winds picked up in the afternoon but you cannot beat the scenery for the area.

The day we played the course was just coming out of over seeding, carts were allowed the 90 degree rule, NOT limited to the paths which was a pleasant surprise. Course was in fantastic condition on Nov.15th. The last time we played it was a year ago and the conditions were terrible, took us a year to come back and play, it's a long drive for us.

The greens were slower than expected but putted true even though the greens looked like a combination of different colored grasses. This is a layout that you need to see a few times.
Once the sun went behind the rock quarry, the temp dropped quickly. I was almost ready to play a yellow ball on the final hole because it was getting close to darkness when we finally finished 5 1/2 hours for a MONDAY. We'll be back when there is a deal online...

great course and always fun. just not worth $95.00 on weekends. the rest of the public is starting to figure that out, as have seen drops in rates for weekends.

Got to Oak Quarry yesterday, 11/26, for a 12:26 pm post-TG round with my brother. I only get to play with my brother very occasionally and Oak Quarry even less. It is is one of my favorite courses and I was really looking forward to it, so the good, the bad, and the ugly, in that order. The course was in as good a shape as I've seen it -- just great. Sometimes the greens here can be a little fuzzy, which might be a hedge against the seasonally serious heat in Riverside. But on this day I thought they were pretty d%mn close to perfect: a good, fast, true, fuzz-less surface. There were the occasion ball marks, previously repaired or not, that needed a little finishing work if they were in your line, but that is an observation not a complaint. Fairways were fine with a decent amount of roll without being thin. Every lie I had in a fairway was a good one and no problems come to mind. Rough was present where it should have been and suitably challenging without overdoing it. The bunkers were pretty firm with a layer of rake marks to finish the top surface. If you like fluffy sand, this was far from it. I was in three bunkers and I subjectively rated them pretty good because they were consistent and the ball sat up so I was generally very successful playing out of them. There are a lot of very small stones in the some sand which gives one pause about wear and tear on your clubs, but otherwise I could happily live with it if it was the norm. In an area where the wind can be a serious imposition, the weather was remarkable. It went from light breeze to almost windless on a sunny, cloudless day -- just perfect. The bad was the pace, although it was not unexpected on Black Friday. From the 5th tee box I could survey the next few holes and there were no gaps. The marshall said earlier he would try to move things along, but the general pace was probably too established by then. We were only able to finish 16 and that was literally in the dark. I actually brought glow balls in anticipation of this, hoping to finish 18 no matter what, but because of the remoteness of the course and the absolute lack of any ambient light, we never pulled them out. It was just too black to see any kind of target by then. Up to that point, I was having a best round at the Quarry, so I hated to stop, but it was great while it lasted. The ugly was the driving range. For a course of this quality it was an embarrassment of hitting off dirt all the way down the line. Given how special it is to play this course, one would want to have the oportunity to tune up on a decent range. Hitting off sparsely covered dirt is distracting and undermines your swing and confidence before approaching the first tee. There were grass-covered areas that could have been utilized, but no one shifted the lane markers to suitable locations. If they are going to let the range get that beaten up without monitoring and refreshing the positions at a regular interval, the customers would be much better served if the management just dragged some nice mats up there for consistency. Seriously. As an aside, the chipping area was nice but, ironically, could have used a mowing on the green portion. On a positive note, the practice putting green was perfect in that it was in good shape and matched the very nice speed and condition of the greens. While unfortunate to end before 18, the overall experience was a really good day on a unique, must-play course. For the record, I stuck the middle of the green and parred the signature hole.

Well I finally got out to Oak Quarry for my first time yesterday and all I can really say is, what an amazing course and the perfect day to play it on. The course was in my opinion "near" perfect. All the tee boxs were nice and level maybe a couple small uneven parts, fairways were the greenest i have ever seen and cut at the perfect length, the rough was nice and green and the only bare spots in the rough were out towards the out of bounds areas and even then still pretty good and greens were in great shape with little to no ball marks. The only bad things i can really say about this course is the sand traps were really firm and a little rocky. But it did just get done raining so the traps probably would have been better. Overall layout was also great in placement of all the bunkers and waste areas in making me think extra about every shot and trying to place all my shots in a specific place. Customer service was on point as well. Our cart barely made it up to the 4th tee box so i called the pro shop and we had a new cart in less then 5 minutes. I can't wait until overseeding and aerofication are done because i will be back as soon as i possibly can.

Seems like everyone has been playing here lately, probably because they won't punch the greens for another 2 weeks. Course is in great shape, greens were rolling smooth and quick, fairways were great almost perfect lies every time. Tee boxes were good, level with a few divots, not too many. Bunkers were good, this course usually doesn't have much sand in the traps, which is fine, I expect it and they are more penalizing that way. The one thing I have noticed here with the bunkers more than any other course is the lack of raking. I don't know if the course doesn't rake the traps each morning, if there is a lack of rakes or what, but every trap seems to have tons of footsteps. One guy in the group in front of us took 4 shots to get out of a trap and never picked up a rake.

Maybe the most impressive thing about the course condition today was the rough. It was extremely tough. I have played Torry and other courses with extreme rough and this was about as tough as it gets. The rough was THICK everywhere, if you hit your ball in it you were praying it was sitting up. It has been a while sense I have played a course with this tough of rough.
