Played Friday the 21st as a threesome paying only $39 using my GolfNow.com Country Club membership...(formerly known as Tiger Team) Two of us were first timers at the Quarry and what a spectacular setting! The greens were being aerated 2 holes a week for about five weeks now, that was actually a blessing in disguise since we played in 25+ mph winds in the afternoon and it felt like a U.S. Open qualifying round or better yet, a British Open round...Absolutely loved Hole #14, best Par 3 in So. Sal bar none!!! A must play for all golfers...
Course conditions are very good except for the sanded greens and a few bunkers...Had a great time and what a challenge it is to conquer the ROCK!!!

No way is this place worth the $100+ weekend green fee. Greens 5-14 had been aerated but the rest were not much better (slow and full of ball marks). Fairways were decent. Sand traps below average.... Continue »

No way is this place worth the $100+ weekend green fee. Greens 5-14 had been aerated but the rest were not much better (slow and full of ball marks). Fairways were decent. Sand traps below average. This place has definitely gone down hill over the last couple of years. Played with Xavier??? on 4-17 and cannot agree more with his complaint about lack of balls on range then the starter rushing us out after hitting about 4 each. I think it compares with Eagle Glen as far as being a major disappointment. Save your cash and play Goose Creek.

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

Played this course for the first time on Wed 3/22 and was highly impressed. The fact that I came 5 feet from getting a hole in one on there signature hole #14 made it even better. The traps are thin, which I noticed was the biggest complaint, but that makes it a challenge in itself. Great fairway conditions, great layout, the greens were a bit slower than I expected, but I'm sure they'll be punching them soon. I got on for $39 with a discount, but I would pay the full price during the week to play this course again. I recommend playing this course at least once.

Played Monday 3/20 and went out as 2some since course not that busy. Fairways in great shape, ball always sat up nicely and saw no bare spots or even thin grass. Same with rough. Greens were a little bumpy in places and tough to read breaks since you could not always tell where the valley was if you don't know the course. Biggest complaint were the sandtraps. I avoided them until 17 where I was in bunkers 2x, but still noticed all day that they were dirt not sand and poor quality. Considering how nice everything else is it is a shame that the bunkers are not better. Layout is great and scenic and would definetly play here again.

A gorgeous morning at "The Rock". I can't complain about the pace as we were a twosome teeing off at 6:20 AM. The course condition were pretty good as you never really get tired of the layout at oak quarry. It is a beautiful course. I've played it many times and it never dissapoints on those terms. The views are some of the best around. Plenty of wildlife and no houses really sans the rooster's place sounding off on No. 11.

The fairways were very lush and drained surprisingly well with the recent weather. Greens played on the slow side and were a little bumpy. As opposed to the first few years when this course opened where the greens were like a pool table they have seemed to have declined just slightly with subsequent years. The first hole's green is always the worst. Very bumpy and pock marked. It's usually the exception. They are getting ready to plug the greens next week in their customary two at time policy. You had better get out there pretty quick or it's like putting on a beach out there for while. If only they put that much sand in the bunkers. That continues to be "The Rock's" most consistent negative. The management says that they put sand in them but the wind blows it out. There are other course in the North end that get's more severe wind than O.Q. and they don't seem to have a problem keeping sand in them. It's tough hitting out of O.Q.'s bunkers because it's more like hitting off hard pan sometimes.

All in all though, another great day despite some very modest scores.

Well - it's a crime against humanity, I know - but - I have not been out to play golf since around Thanksgiving of last year. That's waaaayyyy too long! I wanted to make my return "special" - so - when given the option - my choice of track was Oak Quarry. You can see by my past feedbacks on this course that I truly love The Quarry - I think it's a terrific test of golf and truly one of the most picturesque courses that we have in So. Cal. That being said - I was a little bit disappointed by my experience there yesterday (Saturday, March 4, 2006)

First off - I must agree with the prior poster - the sand-traps are in serious need of more sand. I know - the idea is to stay OUT of the sand-traps - but - the game I brought yesterday was NOT my best - and I believe that I was in about 6-7 bunkers!! They are hard-packed, damp, not sandy but "muddy" bunkers - and - the greenskeeper there must be made aware of this!! I filled out the customer service card and I hope they read it!! For a course this nice - the bunkers are a disgrace!!

Now - about the price....I don't get out on the weekends much - now I remember why!! $95.00 is just too much for this track!! I won't play there on the weekend ever again unless somebody takes me there and pays my fees!!

The course marshals need to be more attentive!! My pet peeve was profoundly evident yesterday in BOTH groups ahead of us - THEY HAD NO FREAKING BUSINESS PLAYING THE BLUE TEES!! C'mon people - unless you are a 12-or-below - DON'T screw up everybody else's day by hitting from the Championship Tees and spending 10-minutes looking for your ball 30-yards off the tee and 75-yards up the hillside!! Save your practice-time for the range, for God's sake!! You know who you are!! Get a grip and play the White Tees!!

The fairways were a little tight for my taste - I remember them being a bit more lush the last time I played Oak Quarry....perhaps a good drilling and seeding will help.

Overall - still a nice golfing experience. The greens rolled true and were pretty fast!
