Played in a San Diego Senior match Tuesday AM. We lost but are still in the top spot, only 9 more matches to go.

Friendly staff in the Pro Shop, starter and in the restaurant after the match.

Greens: recently vert-cut and lightly sanded, a little bumpy. Medium to slow and holding.

Fairways: overall better than average.

Rough: 1-3" high.

Traps: raked, better than average.

POP: at 4 hours.

Really enjoyed playing here today. Wish it was closer to Oceanside as I would like to play here more often.

Pretty similar conditions to last week, with some different mowing patterns concerning where rough and fairway meet. Noticed some fairways were tightened up and some areas that were medium rough were mown down tight, like the front area of the par 3 17th. City Am was just played here so that may be why the different mowing configurations.

Rat-patrol had a good info. I played Sunday, teed off around 3:30 and finished at dark, around 7:45ish. POP was ok, we waited on the back nine quite a bit.

Overall, course is in good condition. Fairways were pretty darn nice and I did get a little roll out on most of them. Teeboxes weren't that level, they had ok coverage, but I had to take a moment to find a good level spot. Found one trap and it was just fine, no complaints. To me, the greens were darn near perfect, about as good as I've ever seen them at Balboa. They rolled very true and smooth and held shots very well. I couldn't believe they weren't bumpy that late in the day.

Service was great, lady in the bar was sweet. The starter was nice, he let me go out before he stated at first and my card was expired, he said to take care of it next time. Halfway house girl was super funny and nice, had a nice chat with her.

All things considered, get on out there, it's in great shape right now.

Conditions similar to last week, second group out twilight:
Tees: good
Fairways: good to hit from, not a lot of run out
Rough: sticky and makes you really think about what shot to hit and where
Bunkers: I was in a couple and they had good sand and were mostly smooth
Greens: rolling well medium with a bit of extra roll out when putting towards the southwest
POP: front 9 in just over 2 hours walking and then the group in carts that was first out hit the halfway house, slowed down so we waited quite a bit and the back 9 and ended up playing in just under 5 hours.

Played 6-18-17 for Fathers day! Have not played here in more than 10 years. Course is in very good condition. Greens held well and rolled fast! Fairways are in great shape and the rough varied from 2-3 inch to 5+ inches. Tough getting out of the deep stuff. Bunkers were in good shape from what I could tell but did not hit one today! Tee boxes were a bit chewed up. Strange to see divots all over a par 5 tee box but there it is! Over all a fun course I hope to play again soon. At $50 on a weekend I find the price is right.

First off at twilight, pretty empty out there due to Father's Day and the US Open. We played at our own pace at about 4 hrs 20 minutes. Course is in good shape, greens are in great shape except I fixed A LOT of ball marks. Fairways are well covered and a bit hairy, but this course being short limiting the runout on tee balls is necessary to make it play longer. Good shape right now, rough a bit splotchy, but overall a decent play.

First off at twilight and after playing through some lollygaggers we finished in just over 3.5 hrs
The course is in decent condition, fairways OK, rough a bit mangled in spots, bunkers manicured but just raked moist dirt and the greens are doing well after being punched a few weeks back, they aren't pristine visually but roll adequately at medium speed.

Had a late afternoon meeting in down San Diego so instead of spending the next four hours in rush hour traffic to get home, decided to try and squeeze in as many holes as possible at a local course. Wanted to try out Coronado for the first time but they had just punched the greens so I returned to Balboa Park for the first time in about two years. It was an inspired choice.

I was actually hoping to get in a little over nine holes by the time I started, but after some jumping around the course solo and passing a few twosomes and joining another one for the last two holes, actually finished all 18 after going back to the earlier ones I skipped. All in all finished in around 3 hours with even some daylight to spare, so that was amazing.

I had forgotten how very unique and hilly this course is winding through a verdant valley near the heart of Whale's Vagina. There is a lot more OB trouble to find than I remembered with the canyon that more or less splits the nines. Some of the holes are also very long and narrow so you really do need to be accurate and confident in your stroke here. It's a lot more fun than I remembered, especially taming 17 with a glorious GIR and par.

The conditions are quite good with the exception of rock hard tee boxes. The layout can be a little tricky to follow for a first-timer, but it will show itself soon enough. The fairways have nice coverage right now and the rough is cut to about 3-4 inches so you can definitely have some trouble finding a ball sitting down in it. The sand traps were in pretty good shape as well. I found the greens to be overall in good shape as well - a lot of slope to them and some tricky calls to make in terms of speed, but overall they were consistent and held shots well.

I played the blue tees so it's definitely got some teeth in terms of narrow tee shots with a few decent carries to navigate. The twilight rate and cart fee were very reasonable and the gentleman in the pro shop could not have been nicer or more personable.

It was a good decision to hit up Balboa Park again and I would recommend it right now.
