Played the blues (6520/71.5/127) on a GolfNow hot deal for $32.48 including a cart. The POP was brutal even for a Sat. afternoon. 3H, 5M to play the front 9! The back was better, but it was still a 5 1/2 hour round. Teed off @ 12:15 and finished in almost total darkness @ 5:48. First time playing here, I liked the layout. It has been awhile since I played a par 73 course. Some fairly tight holes, but not overly tight. Many holes with a boundary fence or a water hazard down one or both sides. All five par 5's were potentially reachable for longer hitters. While the course layout was good, the condition for most of the course was poor. The poa annua greens were mostly humpbacked with a decent pitch from back to front. You could expect severe breaks toward the front of the green if you were putting/chipping from pin high. They were firm, medium fast and generally putted well in spite of being a bit bumpy. The sand traps were decently maintained with good sand. So far, so good, but from here the course really goes severely downhill. The fairways were mostly thin with LARGE areas of hardpan. It has been a long time since I played a course that had this many large areas of dirt with no grass in their fairways. Numerous areas on many holes were 10 yards by 10 yards and should have been marked GUR. Hopefully they will improve, it looked like they had tried to transplant grass in many areas within the past few months. The rough actually had better coverage than the fairways, but it too had a decent amount of hardpan, dirt areas. It was mowed down and not very punitive. The tees were far from lush and pretty chewed up. They definitely needed more maintenance and regular divot repair. The customer service was a +, they were almost on time in spite of being packed on a Sat. afternoon. The cart gal came around several times. I liked the layout and would come back and play here again IF the conditions were better. However, under current conditions, your golfing time & $$$ would be better spent elsewhere.

Played Chula Vista on Sunday 1/4/15. This course has seen some better days but with the recent rains it seems to be getting better. I even saw grass seed on some of the bare spots. Currently there are some bare spots on the majority of the holes. The tee boxes were looking better than the fairway with minor divot damage. The rough was pretty thin with the challenge being the bare spots and unevenness of the grass. No complaints about the sand traps. The greens were a bit slow and had some un-repaired divot damage but overall were in good not great shape.

Previously hole 3 was turned into a par 3 and the fairway was closed now the tees are back and the hole is playing as a par 4 again.

I like the fact that this course has 5 par fives (par 73) and a few of them are reachable in 2. If you can work the ball right to left (draw for a right handed player) it will help considerably in preventing your ball from ending up in the hazard that borders the right side of many holes.
The pace of play was much better than previous times ending up right around 4:25. This place can be hit or miss with the pace, sometimes very long sometimes reasonably fast.

The greens had a surprising amount of dead turf on them though most of the time you found a decent lie. Tee boxes were actually pretty solid. Rough was non existent. The staff was great and they come around with water often which is a necessity with the heat we're having.. Not the worst place to play but personally I'd rather go over to Bonita GC since the greens/fairways are in much better shape.

Played here Friday 1/30. The POP was horrible I normally can stand a long round but 3 hours for 9 holes was too much and I walked off after 9. We complained at the pro shop at the turn but no help. There was a tounament going on but 4 groups waiting on a par 3 is ridiculous.

The course is deficient in overall grass. As a result the course had large areas marked as ground under repaid including a huge swath of the fairway on 3. The tee boxes were largely uneven. The greens were a little bumpy but overall the best part.

Played a Thursday 12:45pm round. I haven't played this course in over five years, and it's nice to see the improvements to the clubhouse and pro shop that weren't there before. What are they feeding the geese there? Those things are huge, fat and happy. The course was in pretty decent shape for late fall/winter play. There were some bare spots on the fairways, but the greens were holding up nicely and were generally very receptive. There didn't seem to be much sand in the bunkers, only an inch or so, so I felt like I needed to chip my greenside bunker shots more versus going for explosion shots. The sun came out after an overcast front nine, and the afternoon west wind picked up as well, making the finishing holes fairly difficult. The pace was pretty good, with only a wait on one of the back 9 par 3s. The beverage cart was a helpful busy bee, coming by four times. I've always enjoyed the layout of this course (designed by Billy Caspar...for a guy who played a legendarily big draw, I'm surprised how many left-to-right dogleg holes there are). And the value is really hard to beat in San Diego.

Had a 6:22 golfnow time for $41 and was in first group off this morning (other than a couple of hardcore singles who headed out while it was still dark. Played with a threesome and we played at a decent pace just under 4 hours. The group behind (a threesome) wasn't pushing us at all, so it was enjoyable. The course is in average winter shape for a muni. The fairways and rough are thin and patchy with mostly brown coloration, but not too horrible. Lots of extra roll-out, but mostly decent lies to hit from on and near the fairways. The greens were actually very nice on top. When I first started putting on the practice green (under lights while still dark), I wasn't sure if it was real grass or astroturf until I looked closer. They were rolling very smooth on top at fairly quick speeds. Only drawback is underneath that nice surface they were super firm and it was hard to get your ball to stop on chips/approaches. No bite at all, which made it tough with some tricky pin placements today. The bunkers had nice deep fluffy sand that seems like they just got refilled recently. One bunker was so soft on the face my ball almost buried completely. CV is a solid muni layout. Rare par-73 course with five par-5 holes and four par-3s. There are a handful of wide open holes, but most of the course plays fairly tight off the tee and most of the greens are pretty well protected by bunkers. There's a creek that runs the length of the course and comes into play on almost every hole. On the front, it runs parallel to most holes (so don't miss too far right) and then the back criss-crosses it more to bring it into play a lot. I wouldn't go too far out of my way to play here again, but it's a solid SD County option for under $50 on a weekend. Great walking course, too, with a very flat overall layout.

I had fun playing this course. The fairways and rough are not bad at all. The driving range is peculiar. A river bisects the range 80 to 100 yards from the stalls. Very odd. That same river is adjacent to several holes. The walking/jogging trial surrounding the course gets a tremendous amount of use. My mind was taken off golf several times during the round when a nice looking lady went by.

Hit this course up a couple of times over the last two months. Played very early (second group off both times) so pace of play was great and I was able to walk 18 holes in around 3:15. The course is a standard muni - mostly flat and in fair condition. What makes it fun and an okay challenge is that it's a decent length from the blue tees (6500 yds) and there is some sort of water hazard or OB that comes into play on just about every hole.

The greens were especially well kept for it being a muni. They held iron shots well and rolled true.

Overall, I think it's a great value at $29 (the primetime weekend walking rate) or $16 (twilight). I will play here again.
