I played Coronado Golf Course Saturday and Sunday during an SCGA event. Even though I forgot to list it, this is one of my favorite golf courses. It is extremely busy, but it is in excellent condition considering. The greens were very smooth, but not too fast. They were firm but would still hold a short iron shot or a high trajectory mid iron shot. The fairways are great, they have lots of roll but are still lush enough. The rough is almost nonexistent. The only way to loose a ball is too put in the San Diego Bay, a water hazard, or into one of the untrimmed palm trees (this happened to one of my fellow competitors twice). The course is flat so consequently easy to walk. The greens don’t have a lot of break. The course sounds easy but there are trees, water and OB’s that can jump out and bite you real quick. Also in the afternoon there is wind and it can get fairly fierce. The great thing about the course is even if the pace is slow; there is always something to see out on the bay or the beach that makes the time go quickly. This is a great course to play and well worth the green fees of $30.00 weekdays, $35.00 weekends. It is no wonder that the men’s club at Coronado GC has a waiting list of over 200!

Played last tee time before twilight on a Saturday afternoon. Called two days ahead and that was the only available tee time. Course is definitely as advertised, beautiful views of San Diego Harbor on almost every hole. Course conditions are very good for a municipal course as well. Greens are slow but very consistent. The holes themselves are not too remarkable, but again, the atmosphere and scenery more than makes up for it. Pace of play was not too great. Finished in about 5 1/2 hours. Cart girl was around early and often. Highly recommend playing this course...not for the challenge per say, a low handicapper will score early and often here, but for the surroundings and just an all around fun time.

Got out on Saturday morning as a single. For such a nice day it didn't take too long to get out. Course is in its usual good shape. Greens were rolling pretty smooth and with good pace to them. Fairways were decent and rough is non-existent. Was in a couple of traps and one was good soft sand the other was more hard packed sand. Saw the cart girl a couple of times. For $35 this is certainly the best deal in town, if you can get on.

Played yesterday and today although today it took over 3 hours to get out. Greens were great. I thought they were real smooth and deceptively fast. If you were not careful your putt could keep rolling by. I remember hitting some putts that i thought wouldn't make it to the hole but yet got closer than I thought. Fairways were good too. I noticed there were a few bare spots on a couple of fairways but I wouldn't say these spots were in the typical landing spots. The rough was pretty standard here, not real penalizing. Was in a couple of traps and the sand quality was pretty good. I didn't see any marshal out there and the pace had slowed down quite a bit. The actual tee time for our group was 10:15ish and I want to say we actually teed off closer to 10:30 or maybe even after. We were right behind the mens club so we were waiting on every shot. Great bargain for $35 to walk, has to be the best value in SD. Not an over bearing course but can certainly test your game if you're not distracted by the views of the bay.

Played on Sunday and got off after an hour of waiting. I thought everything was in great shape. Greens were pretty soft from the rain the day before and the cool air kept most of the greens soft throughout the round but it seems to pick up as the day went on. Typical Coronado...fairways are good to hit out of and the rough is not that much of a penalty unless you're behind a tree. I thought the sand was good quality. Finished in about 4 hours and 15 minutes. For $35 it certainly is a bargain.

Played yesterday afternoon. Loved the course conditions. Greens were good, kinda bumpy a couple of times and seemed a little slow for me. I thought you really had to pound the putt to get it to the hole but that may have been due to the cooler temperature towards the end of the day. Fairways were great too. Fairway rough is not much to talk about but I thought the grass around the green was a little thicker. Great sand quality too. Started at around 3 and finished just before 8. Marshall was out there making sure the pace was good. Don't know of a better value for the price here.

Got here at about 7 am and was the 3rd single on the list. Teed off about 7:30 with another single. Yeah we went off as a twosome on a Saturday morning. Everyone this morning was flying. We finished at right around 4 hours (maybe even a little less). Greens were nice and smooth, they weren't fast but coming off areation they probably just need to be mowed and/or rolled. The fairways were also good. There were a couple which still had some holes from areation but overall good. Not many divots to speak of. As usual there is minimal rough and not very deep. There were some thicker areas but overall really no penalty for hitting into it. Found a couple of bunkers and thought the san quality was great. Marshall was out making sure the pace of play was moving along. Great time and for $35 it is easy to see why this is the best value in San Diego on GK.

I played Coronado GC in the PLGA tournament the afternoon of 4/17 and the morning of 4/18. This course is one of my favorites. For a muni it is in wonderful condition. The greens are smooth and relatively fast. They are however firm. The fairways allow for a good bit of roll, but the ball sits up rather well. The wind in the late morning and afternoon can make this course very challenging. The great thing about this course is its proximity to San Diego Bay. There is always something going on out on the water and you have water views from almost every hole on the back nine and 3 holes on the front. It is a very popular course and it is difficult to get a starting time, but well worth the trouble. Or you can play in the PLGA tournament in the spring or the Coronado City Championship over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Played 4/9, walked on (at) 0545 and teed off (at) 0635, finished 1020. AWESOME course for the price ($30 walking). Unfortunately, I still feel like the starter and the snack bar employees think they are doing me a favor by working there. The course is well kept with exception of the sand traps which run the gamut from standing water to cement hard with very few being of a quality that successful play out of them will occur. Greens are VERY nice and VERY FIRM and putting is always a challenge. The tee boxes are in need of a little grooming and you will need to check them from the back to keep away from the slant. The whites play a little over 6200 yards but with todays placement, I should have played the blues as there wasn't much difference.
