With sunrise now being so late, tough to find a place to get out super early and avoid the crowds. Called many courses, and only Oceanside indicated there would be no issue, so back I returned. Not much change since my prior review. Greens still by far the best part of the course. Fairways were for the most part in good condition, as are the bunkers, its just when/if you stray from the fairways that you'll encounter all the bare areas. (Some intentional)

The more I play here, the more I like this course. It's just a fun, interesting, economical layout, with easy access and a very accommodating staff.

Greens - healed, in good condition.

Fairways - better than average condition!

Traps - plenty of sand and raked.

Good condition for a Muni!

Finally got to play my first round of golf after hip replacement today. Got thru the round without any pain!

Greens-punched last week and were bumpy, should be in good condition within another 7-10 days.

Fairways - very good condition, few too many unfilled divots.

Rough - many bare spots.

Traps - raked.

POP - just over 4 hours.

Excellent driving range and two practice greens.

People tend to look down their noses when you mention Oceanside Muni but it is one of the best deals in the San Diego area. It's a fun course with some interesting holes.

People tend to look down their noses when you mention Oceanside Muni but it is one of the best deals in the San Diego area. It's a fun course with some interesting holes.

The greens were terrific, rolled true, faster than expected, and very receptive to well struck shots. Bunkers were okay, not great. Fairways had some bare spots, but there were other areas that are emaculate. I hit from numerous areas which were as good as any high priced course around. The only downfall of Oceanside is when you miss the fairway. All bets are off at that point since the ball will end up on the dirt/gravel.

I know that Oceanside is not everyone's cup of tea, but I really enjoy playing this course. It's fun, some interesting holes, not redundant, doesn't force you to do anything you can not do. The only holes I'm not a big fan of are #15 & #16, because from the blue tees (Which I play) they are just too long for me now. The other 16 holes are fine, just these two.

The greens were far and away the best part of the course. Rolled true, faster than expected, and very receptive to well struck shots. Bunkers were good, not great. Fairways had some bare spots, but were generally very good. Very little rough, only a few feet adjacent to the fairways which was not good, and once you left the rough, God only knows where your ball will end up, rolling forever on the dirt/gravel.

No problem getting out first this morning. Teed off at 6:15am, and my bride and I really humped it because we were told the men's club was going off he back at 7:30am, allowing us only a little more than an hour to walk the front. (We made it in one hour three minutes and the men's club was teeing off early ! WTF. However when they saw us walking up, they apologized and invited us to go ahead. Thank you Men's Club !

Back out to Oceanside for an early morning round with a friend visiting from Arizona. Course has not changed much since I last played here about three weeks ago. I thought the greens rolled very well and were perhaps a bit quicker than my previous round. The fairways were generally good with plenty of grass. The rough was rather inconsistent with some spots very thick while other rather sparse. Both bunkers I found were well groomed with plenty of sand.

I know there are some which do not particularly care for this course, but I find this course a pleasure to play. Lots of fun holes, some rather unusual ( #12 for example) nice mix of long par 4 holes, as well as easy holes. Also enjoy the varied lengths of the four par 3 holes.

To my surprise and delight, the last couple times I've played here, it has not been too crowded, so easy to get out early and enjoy a nice pace of play.

Oceanside Muni is a fun course and in my opinion a great value...where else can you play Saturday morning for $42 with a cart San Diego? The course isnt all that challenging but there a few holes that really test your driving ability due to length and placement.

Tee-Time: 6:00am
POP: 3:00 (1:20 front 9, 1:40 back 9)

Greens:
The greens are arguably the best feature of this course. They are always really well maintained and roll very smooth and true. They are firm but very receptive to all of the approach shots I hit today.


Fairways:
Great coverage on the fairways especially for this time of year. Everything was very green because they use 85% reclaimed water so they dont have the same restrictions on water use. There was a turf reduction program that took place years ago which removed a lot of grass between fairways so some misses (wide misses) end up in pine-straw or dirt.

Bunkers:
Bunkers were all very uniform from fairway to greenside. They had enough sand to get the ball up quick near the green.

Rough:
Some areas of really thick rough (ball completely buried) and other areas about 1 to 1.5" deep. Punishing rough in places outside the first cut.

Overall:
I love this course. It is a great place to play on the weekends if you want a fast round (only mornings) with some interesting holes. Check it out if you havent but make sure to fix all divots and ball marks; the regulars here work very hard to keep this muni in the best shape possible.

Our foursome had a 6:15am tee time and when we arrived there was only 1 person there? Even by the time we were on #7, we could not see any other golfers? What gives? The course is in very good condition, the greens being as good as I've seen them.. Greenside bunkers were the only negative, very "crusty" or soaked so badly it was like playing in med.

Obviously with no other people there, pace of play was not an issues. We took it very easy and enjoyed a near perfect summer morning and walked in 3 hours 40 minutes, a nice comfortable pace for our foursome

Always enjoy this course, although with the recent turf reductions, it is not as visually appealing as before, but every bit as playable and just as much fun

Played Oceanside Sunday morning after not being let on base to play marine memorial due to a new policy as of April. 42 bucks with cart got us right out as walk on at 8am. Greens were bumpy still from punching, some were a lot closer to being good than others but overall not bad. The green with the worst aeration holes is actually he first hole so we were happy it improved from there. I like how they took out a lot of rough here and make it a drought resistant area around the edges, adds some character. Fairways were pretty solid. Rough was patchy. Bunker sand was great. Would definitely come back again, not a bad course, need a little bit of course knowledge off the tee though. Greens should be good in May.
