Played here 1/28 as a threesome. Teed off at 9:15 am and was paired with an older guy who was staying at the hotel. He only played nine, and we were done and enjoying a beer on their nice patio overlooking the course by 1:30. Get the burger it's delicious. The course was still very wet from the rains, and the starter told us that the canal that runs through the first fairway had water 60 feet outside of its walls, so it definitely got hit hard. Course drained well enough, though, but we were still limited to 90-degree rule on the front and cart path only on the back.

Tee boxes were good, plenty of coverage from the black tees. Fairways were wet and long as a result of them not wanting to cut with all the rain. Some areas had water damage but not too bad. Greens were long, but again they probably didn't want to cut them as much with the rain. All in all, it was a fun round, definitely a place I want to go back to when it isn't hit with so much rain.

Played here again on 11-8-16 ... Course was in great shape, greens have fully healed and are running perfect. My only gripe and as I have said in my last post was, the course runs wet. Not all of it b... Continue »

Played here again on 11-8-16 ... Course was in great shape, greens have fully healed and are running perfect. My only gripe and as I have said in my last post was, the course runs wet. Not all of it but portions and also the greens, for me and my game, that hurts. However, knowing this will make me play it different next time. Greens are soft and damp so your ball will check up MUCH faster.

Played in a company tournament yesterday and first off the staff was well organized and got everything out on time.

I usually only play here for these types of outings because the course layout doesn't do anything for me. But I would say the conditions were actually surprisingly good.

The greens were soft and not many divots even with a tournament. I was surprised how soft because we haven't had that much rain but it was a little damp in the morning. The breaks can be tricky too. We had several putts that broke a lot more than they looked.

Fairways were in pretty good shape too. Fairways were cut nice and fine. Divots seemed to be filled in for the most part.

Rough was hit and miss. There were areas that were thick and other spots where it didn't matter. The rough can be grabby with this type of grass.

While I didn't hit out of a bunker I did retrieve a few balls and was surprised how soft the sand was which I wasn't expecting because the sand looked darker and wetter but was quite the opposite.

I had never been to the range before but it's shared with the country club next door. It's a weird surface to hit from, it's like a sponge so it felt like I was always hitting with a lie above my feet. There are not many stalls either and I think the women's club was going off on the private course so it was really crowded.

Had a 6:24 time out here this morning. The staff seemed to be getting off to a late start, as the pro shop didn't open until about 6:15 and the starter didn't acknowledge me until 6:27 when I asked him if I should start, considering I was already past my time. He seemed hesitant to send me off as a single and urged me to join the threesome at 6:32. My whole point of booking 6:24 was visions of a 3 hour round and being back home early, so when the front nine took us until about 8:45, I broke off and played the back by myself. At one point I caught a twosome who said they jumped past us somewhere on the front, although I never saw that happen, and they let me play through. On course POP was about 3:35, and I was back on the road by about 10:20. We played the first three holes in thick fog; couldn't see the drainage ditch on No. 1, nor could we see the green on No. 2 from the tee. Thankfully it dissipated very quickly on No. 4, and it was a beautiful morning the rest of the way.

Conditions are pretty good across the board. Greens were very smooth first thing in the morning, although I had a difficult time gauging speed from one green to the next. Some putts seemed much faster than others, but that could have just been mis-reads on my part. Overall medium fast, I'd say. The greens held full shots well but chips would run out quite a ways. Fairways are thin but with good coverage. Rough was slightly more lush than the fairways. The bunkers I was in were excellent. Tee boxes lush but a little shaggy.

Played the Blues (6272/70.7/129), matched up with Dennis, Max & Steve using Forelinx. The weather was overcast, mid 60's and breezy. POP was a little over 4 hours, pretty good for a holiday afternoon.... Continue »

Played the Blues (6272/70.7/129), matched up with Dennis, Max & Steve using Forelinx. The weather was overcast, mid 60's and breezy. POP was a little over 4 hours, pretty good for a holiday afternoon. The tees were average, mostly winter thin and level. Some of the par 3 tees needed divot repair. The fairways were good, dormant Bermuda winter thin sprayed green with decent coverage. The rough had a few bad areas but was decent overall. It was generally good to chip out of, the ball usually sat up. The traps were very well maintained with good sand, nice to play out of. The greens putted medium fast, a little bumpy, usually firm but held iron shots well. A couple greens had some bad spots close to the outside, but that did not affect play, they were excellent in the areas that mattered. Fun layout, there are only a couple of holes that jump out as really demanding, however there are no real easy holes either. Also, almost every hole has some sort of penalty stroke lurking on the outer edges if you get too aggressive or crooked. There are a decent amount of lakes and many holes have OB left where you find condo's and parts of the Inn located. Factor that in with a red hazard drainage area that runs through the middle of the course that comes into play on probably 1/3 of the holes. I usually seem to make a lot of "comfortable" bogeys on this layout and rarely get a good string of par or better holes in a long row here. The customer service from the pro shop to the starter was excellent. No drink cart out today. Good to course in better than average condition. Recommended = Yes.

Played the Blues (6272/70.7/129) using Forelinx. Played as a 4some in around 4H, matched up with Johan, Rick & John for a very fun round. The weather was completely overcast and fairly still, 60ish. The tees were winter thin, mostly level, decent coverage & mowed close. Some of the par 3 tees needed divot repair. The dormant Bermuda fairways were winter thin & sprayed green. The dormant Bermuda rough is still tan in color, nice contrast to the sprayed fairways. Good coverage for the winter and had more areas that were thinner than the fairways. The traps were well maintained with a good amount of nice sand. The greens were fairly smooth, firm, with few ball marks. They held approach shots well and were medium fast to putt on. The customer service from the pro shop to the starter was excellent, complimentary coffee in the pro shop. Drink cart out making the rounds. Good to very good course in better than average condition that plays better than it looks. The course layout is not overly tight but has a few tight holes. Almost every hole has some sort of penalty stroke lurking on the outer edges if you get too aggressive or very far offline. There is a decent amount of lakes and many holes have OB left where you find condo's and parts of the Inn located. Factor that in with a red hazard drainage area that runs through the middle of the course that comes into play on probably 1/3 of the holes, and you need to keep it in the short grass here. Definitely recommended, especially if you can get a deal.

Played the Blues (70.7/129/6272) on dawn patrol using Forelinx. Played as a 4some in 4H with other Forelinxers Daniel, David & Calvin, it was fun playing skins with those guys. The weather was partly cloudy and breezy but nice for golf after it warmed up. The tees were good overall. Decent coverage, mostly level, mowed close. Some of the par 3 tees needed divot repair. The dormant Bermuda fairways were sprayed green with good winter coverage. The dormant Bermuda rough has good winter coverage and had more areas that were thinner than the fairways. Where it was thicker, it was about a 1/2 shot penalty. I usually got good club on the ball but was almost always off line where the rough turned my club. The traps were well maintained with good sand. The greens were very nice & held approach shots well. They were smooth, firm & had few ball marks. Even with morning dew on them, they were quick & after they dried out, fast. Almost every hole has some sort of penalty stroke lurking on the outer edges if you get too aggressive/crooked. There is a decent amount of lakes and many holes have OB left where you find condo's and parts of the Inn located. Factor that in with a red hazard drainage area that runs through the middle of the course that comes into play on probably 1/3 of the holes, and you need to keep it in the short grass here. The course layout is not overly tight overall but has a few tight holes. The customer service from the pro shop to the starter was excellent, complimentary coffee in the pro shop. Drink cart out making the rounds. No GPS on carts, and being a 50+ year old course, it is not all that well marked for distances. However, the course layout is not spectacular but above average, and it plays better than it looks. Definitely recommended, especially if you can get a deal.

Played the Blues (70.7/129/6272) mid day 12/19 using Forelinx. Played as a 3some in 4H, 25M, matched up with other Forelinxers Phil & Tony for a very fun round. We played 11 holes unimpeded, then took longer to play the final 7 holes after we caught VERY slow groups in front of us. The weather was partly cloudy, windy and got worse as the day wore on as a winter storm was blowing in. The tees were above average overall, mostly level, decent coverage mowed close. Some of the par 3 tees needed divot repair. The dormant Bermuda fairways were sprayed green with good winter coverage. The dormant Bermuda rough is still tan in color. Good coverage for the winter and had more areas that were thinner than the fairways. Where it was thicker, it was tough to get good club on the ball for fuller shots. The traps were decently maintained with good sand. The greens were very nice. Smooth, firm, few ball marks and quick bordering fast. They held approach shots well.
