On the drive back from Eastlake, wanted to visit Cabrillo National Park. So after that, decided to stop by The Loma Club as I had never played here. I did not have high expectations, but as it was almost totally empty, made the decision to go for it.

I was pleasantly surprised what nice shape the course was in, particularly the greens, The course was fun to play and provided a nice chance to hit some short irons. #5 was the best hole on the course, if only because of the great view of San Diego. For $13 it was worth the hour it took to play and I'm glad I made the right decision to try it.

This was my last stop today. Because I saw many open tee times online yesterday, I didn't bother to check ahead and just showed up in the morning. However, they had some sort of tournament going and were all backed up until the afternoon. I came back later and it was also very busy out, but they were ultimately able to slot me in at 2:30. Another single joined me and that made things more bearable being in the midst of many groups and often 2-3 groups waiting on each tee box. Price was $15 for 9 holes and total pace was a rough 2 hours, considering it's just a par-3 course. The course played better than it looked in places. The turf here is primarily bermuda, so it's tight and dormant throughout. Some tee boxes were okay and some were terrible. A few even had astroturf down instead. The greens were the highlight, though, as those were in very nice shape overall and rolling smooth at medium speeds. I wasn't in a bunker, but there are plenty of them here. From what I could see, most looked decent, but a few looked kind of crunchy. Despite the slow play on such a busy day, Loma Club (formerly Sail Ho) is a very fun course. The guy I played with plays there pretty regularly and said he's never seen it so crowded. The view of downtown from the 5th tee is probably one of the best views on any golf course in SD not named Torrey Pines. That's a cool spot on the course, though it's kind of a silly little hole.

I played in a golf outing on Monday, November 3rd at this fun little Par 3 track. It's actually now called The Loma Club. Not sure when they made that change as I had never played here before, but there you go.

This is a really fun course. Currently one hole is not open as they are doing some work on it, however it looks pretty close to being there. I'd venture to guess the green fees reflect the eight hole round, but I didn't pay the regular fee so I'm not sure.

For being so short, the course offers a lot. You have everything from a 70 yard shot to a 200 yard shot, and they did a good job with some interesting bunkering and greens to keep things interesting. You get some great views of the San Diego skyline here and it's location so close to town makes it a great place to get a really quick round in.

I thought the conditions of the course were very good. I had no problem finding good lies on the tee boxes, and The Loma Club has made the smart choice of using artificial turf for some tee boxes, since you'd be hard-pressed to keep a tee box of real grass half way decent with everyone using wedges. The greens held shots wonderfully and rolled pretty well, even if they were a little on the slow side.

I will most definitely be back again. They have a cool bar area and being in Liberty Station really gives the place a cool vibe. Staff was great to us as well, so I recommend giving The Loma Club a try if you're in the area and have an hour or so to burn. Great way to get people introduced to the game.

Played Sail Ho on 9/9 and was the first twosome out. This course is a great opportunity to work on the short irons and putting. The clubhouse/restaurant is great and the lady working the place was very nice. There is nothing overtly challenging about this executive course so shot-shaping really isn't the point here. With that said, the course conditions were excellent for a $12 green fee. The tee-boxes were great (#3 is actually an synthetic turf surface), the fairways (which don't come into play unless you mi sh$t ) were good but I must say that the highlight of this quick round was the condition of the greens. They were green, smooth, and moving great. There is no real undulation to any of the greens but they really do a great job in keeping them pristine, I must say. Hole #5 is probably the best hole on the course simply because of the amazing view into Lindbergh Field and the planes coming right at you. All in all a great course to take a few clubs and have a nice practice round. Get out there early as it tends to fill up and can take over 2 hours since you have to wait for the group in front to be completely off before you can hit.

I have played this course many times for both practice on our School Golf Team and on my own time because of the closeness to home. The course itself seems to be in an okay condition all throughout the year. Many of the tee boxes are nearly impossible to hit off and the greens have a lot of divots and debris. The green fee for the course is a little high for the length of this small exec course and there is no way to get an improved rate besides age. Overall I say that if you are looking for a good golf experience you should play one of the many other executive courses in San Diego.

As an individual who has played the game since High School I have had the opportunity to play at many courses over the years. FEW have had more "bang for the buck" than Sail Ho. 13 dollars for 9 holes and a 5 dollar replay during the week! And to have the course in a condition that places it next to one of the more expensive courses here in San Diego. The greens are by far some of my favorites in the county and one of the few courses that actually have Bent Grass greens! Furthermore the course is challenging, especially on the short game.

I HIGHLY recommend this course to anyone and everyone. Especially if you are just starting the game, or if you want to improve your short game.

This, unfortunately, is my home-course for practice. Its practice facilities are very nice (for putting and chipping) but the course is terrible and is never kept-up. I will give them credit for the fact that they had just recently cut and rolled the greens, but I'm pretty sure they over did it because it felt like Torrey-speed even though it is some third-rate pitch and putt. It was horribly out of place. Although I will (forcibly) continue to play here I urge you not to waste your money.
