Played here, first time, on 8/13/19. Overall, I thought just average conditions. Aside from some great vistas along the coastline, felt at times like we were playing any other city course in OC / LA. Tee boxes were average to good, no real serious issues. Maintained and mostly very level. Fairways: First, the width of fairway cut grass was very narrow, and conditions were a coin flip. Good in spots, very thin or clumpy in others. Rough was not overly penal, but was still difficult to play from, and with very narrow fairways, I played most of the round from the rough. When I did find fairway, was usually a thin lie. A little disappointing. Greens were VERY hard, firm and mostly fast. Our group, did not fix many ball marks, as they were tough to find with the firmness, and good shots seemed to run off green consistently. Also a little disappointing. Found a couple of greenside bunkers and all were very full of sand, in some cases almost too deep. Needed a perfect strike to fly ball far enough. Layout is interesting enough, 14-16 were amazing, otherwise unspectacular and flat. Very enjoyable, but not the experience I expected. $45 booking fee added to $110 green fee for non resident. POP was 4:25, (10:50 start) but seemed slower. Guess our group just played a little faster then groups in front, as we waited on several holes. Service on course (beverage cart and at the turn) was excellent, however, kind of short and not super friendly at check in. Poor driving range (mats, narrow, and below average targets), decent chipping green adjacent, and (2) putting greens near #1 North. Lot of low flying jets from nearby Miramar base, which was cool for a while, but not when trying to pull the trigger on a shot. I'd play again, but would need a deal of some kind on green fees.

Played on Tuesday, second off at twlight, finished in just under 5 hours. Course is in good shape with, tees being good, fairways nice, rough cut down but still sticky, bunkers good sand, greens running slower than I am accustomed to and rock hard. Worth it right now.

Teed off this morning at 6 and I thought we’d be one of the first off but there were groups going at 5:30. We still finished in 3:45 so pace was great. Place was quite busy with the junior worlds starting tomorrow.

I thought the greens were in pretty decent shape. Certainly a lot better than last time I was here. I’d say the greens are medium speed which is slow for here. Usually they roll quite quickly. I’m sure they will be rolled and cut this week. Still firm and they roll out quite a bit on approach shots still. Still ball mark issues but that’s always an issue which saw a couple of balls bounce off line.

Fairways are good and the rough is down so I think the course is pretty gettable right now. Tee box on 1 was moved up to the gold tee boxes but other than that everything was pretty normal. Even though the course is shut down this week hopefully conditions continue to improve and definitely worth a look if your a resident.

Updating from last month, when the greens were simply horrible, about a month after aeration. The greens are still pretty bad. Nothing like usual. I don't know what's going on over there.

If not for the greens, all would be fine. But it seems like a different place right now.

If I could copy and paste my last review I would but wanted to revisit the greens in this review since everything else is pretty much the same.

I thought it would take 2 weeks for the greens to recover and I still stick with that. I really have no idea what is going on with these greens. They are recovering so slowly this year. The greens have started to firm up too. They actually roll decently from a pace stand point but there are many ball marks both repaired improperly or not at all that you will more likely have to fix on your putts. It’s kind of scary that we are 5 weeks out of maintenance and this is an issue with summer around the corner.

One month after aeration and the greens are still horrible. Fairways are also very thin. Tee boxes aren't much better. The locals here are baffled at why this superintendent just cant seem to keep this place up. Seem's like he's in over his head. This is my 40th playing here at my home course and they desperately need to do something about this position. We have never seen a super struggle so much for so long.

Teed off this morning at 6 and was back at the car heading home at 9:30 so the pace was outstanding. Overall the course is still recovering from the maintenance and needs a little more time to heal. Greens were slow for my taste. I just could not judge the right speed. Maybe I’m accustomed to the pace being quicker on these greens. Some greens have haled better than others as some of the punched holes are still visible on a handful. Fairways are good and probably have recovered the quickest of anything. I still saw some holes but they would be in a small area not the entire fairway thou. Rough was a little down but could settle down making some shots tricky. Overall course is coming in nicely but may be better to wait a couple of weeks for the course to fully recover.

Played on Friday and today. Friday they were punching the fairways on 9 and 18. Today there were punching 16 and 17. Those are really not bad as the holes are pretty far apart. You just had to clear out some of the debris that didn’t get blown away by the maintenance crew.

Everything else is still pretty good just maybe a tick lower than my previous review which I expected with maintenance scheduled for next week.
