Early tee time on TP north. Tees, fairways, rough and traps in very good condition. Greens are very firm with a few unfixed divots on each green. Customer service always good and on point. Currently #1 tee box and #18 green are being leveled to install a driving range for the US Open, with both holes shortened. Wind was up a little and made for some great views. POP was under four hours. Fun day with great views and great weather.

Played here a couple of times over the past couple of weeks and the conditions are pretty consistent with my last review. Just a couple of updates is the rough seems to be in maintenance mode in that it’s not growing wildly but being kept up. Don’t get me wrong it is still long, thick and you might lose a ball in it but at least I see mowers out there cutting down some. I’m rating the bunkers at a 1 until I see some changes. I’ve written about this before but my last round was the final straw. I hit into the bunker on 8 and it took 4 of us to find it. I kid you not the only thing you could see was the ball the size of a dime. It’s just ridiculous and stupid. As far as pace goes it was anywhere between 3 1/2 - 4 1/2 hour rounds. Did get paired with some guys who played at 9ish and said their round was 5 1/2 hours long.

First time playing here. Played 9 Holes 1:54pm Tee Time from the Brown Tees. POP was SLOW. Finished 9 in just under 3 hours. We all walked but heads up, CART PATH ONLY.

First time playing here. Played 9 Holes 1:54pm Tee Time from the Brown Tees. POP was SLOW. Finished 9 in just under 3 hours. We all walked but heads up, CART PATH ONLY.

Short Review: Course is recovering nicely from punching. Only a few signs from it on the greens. Greens are hard and fast. Rough is super long. Fairways in good shape.

Long Review: Check-in was no problem. The starter did a good job of consolidating some tee times so we had a foursome, instead of a Single, single, pair all back to back. Even so, we were constantly waiting on every shot, and I think some of that could be attributed to lost golf balls due to how deep the rough is. We encountered it ourselves. Bring extra balls. We had strong Santa Ana winds blowing so it made for a beautiful day.

GREENS: Not sure if they were purposely so dry, or if it was due to the Santa Ana Winds and low humidity. They were very quick and very firm but seemed to roll very smooth. Hardly any ball marks to speak of, fixed a few here and there.

FAIRWAYS: They were very good. Pretty lush throughout and a little on the dry side but not bad. There were only a few common approach spots that had a lot of divots.

ROUGH: Oh the rough....lush but might as well be US Open length, if you miss the fairway, you will be searching for your ball. We were constantly looking and hoping to find them, even lost a few as a foursome. But, that being said, it seems they are starting to cut them, as we progressed on the course, there were some holes that weren't as long. Be careful though, if you're near the hazard, they seem to have cut them first, so your ball probably won't stay up.

TEES: Most tees are not bunched up anymore like when I played the South course a few weeks ago. A lot of the tee boxes are in good shape. Little bit on the thin and recovering side here and there.

BUNKERS: Good fresh sand in the bunkers, but not as deep as it seems. Still very good shape though.

All in all, had a great time. Can't beat a 70deg December day walking a course with ocean views like Torrey Pines. Will play again soon.

Played a couple of times since my last review and things are certainly on the upswing. Greens are getting fast. Even playing early in the morning I thought the greens are rolling very quickly. Still too many poorly repaired ball marks but man they are deceptively fast.

Tee boxes have been moved back to the normal spots except for 1 and 16 both are playing on the forward tee boxes.

I don't think the fairways and sand have changed much since my last review. A couple of bunkers need raking but others have been raked.

I saved the best (worst?) for last....the rough. It is getting punishing. That rough between 1 and 18 is the thickest I believe. We did lose some balls in the rough and there were some soft spots out there where a couple balls actually plugged making the search even more difficult. Certainly keep your eye peeled if you hit a wayward shot.

All in all I think its definitely worth playing if you're a glutton for punishment and if you can secure a tee time.

Played a couple of times this past week and it's been a month since the course has overseeded. The course has greened up. Kinda funny standing on tee box 10 and seeing how green the north is and then look at the south to see how brown that is. Quite the contrast.

Tee boxes are still up. The brown and green tees are together and the white and yellow tees are together. I wish they would move these around a bit because it doesn't look like they have moved any of the tees in a month as these areas are really worn out. Once they move the tees back to their normal spots everything will be fine but I have no idea when that is going to happen.

Greens are a little firm and a little quick. Still too many unrepaired or poorly repaired ball marks. I fixed quite a few during my rounds. Remember the maintenance a month ago did not punch the greens.

I really shouldn't rate the fairways since I only hit 3 in my last 2 rounds here but I did walk on them...Honestly the fairways are pretty healthy but a tad long and I thought they were a little soft. Probably still getting some water down on this overnight for the overseeding. I'd guess sometime soon they would get cut to a normal height.

Rough is growing and it actually looks like they did cut it down but even still we had to send out the search party on quite a few shots. It will be interesting if the course keeps watering how much they let the rough grow or if they will continue to cut it to a manageable height until the Farmers.

I was only in one bunker amazingly and it certainly could use a raking as where a lot of other bunkers I saw but with the covid rules in place it wasn't that much of an issue.

I believe the course will be starting construction either a week or 2 after the Farmers to prepare for the US Open. Some holes could be shut down to prepare for the driving range that is being built and a merchandise tent. I guess if no spectators are allowed then the tent wouldn't be necessary.

I'd wait to play if I was a non-resident. I think the conditions are pretty close to being better and the tees in the normal spots. For a resident I'm kind 50/50 on that one. The fairways/rough/greens are fine but the tee boxes up bother me. I feel like I'm cheating all the way up like that. Of course the other issue is securing a tee time but I'll leave that for the rant section of the forum.

Played a round on Friday with a tee time just past noon. This was my first time playing Torrey North since the renovation that switched the nines. The course had just been overseeded, so it was cart path only. All the tee boxes were pushed to the front tees as well.

My first impression was how many fewer trees there were on the course. We were paired up with a knowledgeable single who said that storms that had knocked down a lot of trees. It was different being able to see so many holes on the course at once, because the view wasn't obstructed by trees. The course was playing a little damp, with not a lot of roll on the fairways and fairly soft greens. Greens were rolling about a medium speed, not as quick as I was used to at Torrey.

A light fog rolled in when we were on the ninth hole, and unfortunately the scenic 15th and 16th holes were covered in fog when we played it. Two of my playing partners were playing Torrey for the first time, and I had to apologize to them that they weren't playing the "picture" holes at Torrey during ideal conditions.

We were definitely out of sync with the beverage cart on this occasion. We found the cart after the ninth hole, filling up on supplies as the snack stand was closing down. The next time we saw the cart, it was rolling towards us as we were standing on the 18th tee.

All in all, it was a beautiful day to be out. The two first-timers that I was with enjoyed themselves immensely, and were already making plans to return to play the South.

Played last weekend and I'd say the conditions are pretty similar to my last review before the punching.

Greens were a little slower than normal. When I made a ball mark there seemed to be a little bit sand right under the grass so I'm guessing the sand hasn't worked its way all the way down in the soil yet. I'm also guessing that this is contributing to the slower than normal pace. Some ball mark spots here and there, kind of typical I'd say.

Fairways are ok. Good roll on them and 50/50 on divots being filled in. I'm just wondering how much care will be put in these next couple of weeks with the overseeding scheduled.

Rough is completely playable, everything is a green light. I really don't remember seeing any real thick rough anywhere and believe me I only hit 1 fairway so I had ample opportunities to explore the rough.

Tees boxes were good and level with the exception of #8. That one needs to be completely redone. It seem there is more dirt than grass and I have no clue as to why. The back tee box is fine as is the front tee box but the middle one is gone.

FYI the course will be closed 9/29-10/1 for overseeding only. I'd say for a resident rate its ok but I'd certainly wait if I were a non-resident to play here.

Played this past weekend before the punching scheduled tomorrow and Wednesday. Overall decent conditions. Course is playing the easiest I've seen since it reopened. Greens are ok but there are way too many unrepaired/poorly repaired ball marks. Greens were a little slow in my opinion but I'm a terrible putter so take it for what its worth. I really hope that the punching will help heal these greens up.

Fairways are ok. There are some unfilled divots and some that are filled in.

Rough is generally not penalizing. There were a couple of areas that the mowers did not address because that part was wet so they were keeping the mowers out of those areas.

Some of the bunkers had been raked and some hadn't. Just in this day and age it's hard to expect every bunker to be raked prior to play.

Probably wait 4 weeks to let the course heal before coming back out.

First time playing Torrey Pines today. Was hoping to play the South Course but we were only able to get a tee time for the North. I was excited to play the course as I was told that the course is fabulous. Drove close to an hour and half to get to course from the O.C. Staff was friendly, especially the starter. They are strict on starting on time, which we did as the course gets packed. POP was 4 hours as we teed off early. Tee boxes were okay but the par three boxes were somewhat beaten up. Fairways were green and provided a decent roll. Some fairways were cart path only, which didn't make sense. Roughs were being cut as we played. Balls stuck if you landed on the rough. Greenside bunkers provided lots of sand and easy to get out of. Greens had a lot of divot damage visible and were hard as concrete. Balls would not hold on the greens, but they rolled true. So is the green fees worth the course? If your a San Diego resident, Yes. If your a non-resident, No. Its a municipal course charging resort fees, just because of the views. I have played many resort courses with superb conditions for half the greens fees charged here. I also don't understand the extra fees to book a tee time 7 days out. Checked course of the list, but no interest in going back.
